hi

I had some comfort issues but using the top strap pretty much sorted that. Re quiet life, I have thrown myself into learning 3d printing. (see photos below. Note the MK5 IM Helmet was purchased. The rest are my own). My wife has started to question my sanity. To be fair so have I 🤣. Wow those 3d artworks are amazing. I don’t think you will be retiring anytime soon because I can see a new line of business coming your way. If you market this right you could make a lot of money out of this venture. PS are you keeping the avp?

I second that. The photo conversion alone makes it worth the price. Old photos of relatives long gone, friends from the past and the children when they were young are so realistic. Its priceless. It's worth the price of the AVP to enjoy them now. Knowing Apple, the cheaper version will take longer than expected to be released.

I use my iPhone to take spatial movies more than ever. And I take more photos that I know will show so much better in 3D

How good are the spatial videos on from the iPhone? I’ve been filming lots spatial videos of my kids (in anticipation for when I purchase an Apple Vision Pro in the future) but not sure whether to continue to do so or just film in 4K60? When I had a demo in the Apple Store, the spatial video shot directly on the AVP was amazing but the one shot on the iPhone 15 Pro was nowhere near as good (obviously due to the closer lenses). However I would like to get some first hand opinions from those who have filmed and then viewed their own iPhone 15 Pro spatial videos.

They were surprisingly good for me. I was actually quite impressed both by the levels of depth and the deepness of depth. And the 1080p picture looked fine when watched on my AppleTV. One thing I've learned with both spatial pictures and videos is to leave more room around the edges as they are intentionally blurred/faded when watching in the headset. I tend to crop in tight, and you lose some of the picture that way when viewing spatial.

Agree with the comment above. The Spatial videos are very good. Of course you lose the edges but the feeling of depth is real. I shot videos at the Kylie concert in Hyde Park 2 weeks ago and my daughter commented that it made her feel like she was there. That said, she was even more blown away by Pano photos.

Thanks. Lots of sanding, and painting involved. And no on the AVP. It has been returned.

Just my opinion, take a mix of Spatial and 4K60. Spatial is really good but only 1080p as you probably already know. Also, for videos that are closer to the subject Spatial looks good. For shots more at a distance I’d go 4K. Just my thoughts. Also watch panning around in Spatial because it can quickly blur. The best Spatial videos I’ve taken have been when the camera is relatively stationary and the subjects aren’t too fast.

I was doing exactly the same. Although I was miles from the stage. They are very atmospheric though; the way the sound changes when you go ‘immersive’ is great.

I now wonder how many other vp owners were there, and just how many spatial videos there are of Kylie already. I met someone else at a concert last week who was also at BST.

How was the VP-shot spatial video better? Just better depth perception? In any other way?

Hopefully the iPhone 16 lineup will shoot better spatial video. Although the rumors don't seem to indicate the cameras will be repositioned farther apart (only that the lenses on the standard iPhone will be repositioned to allow it to join the iPhone Pros' ability to shoot spatial video), so the depth perception will likely stay the same.

Also anyone know why Apple added spatial video capture to the iPhone but not photo (so I heard)? Is spatial photo more difficult to capture than video? Seems counterintuitive.

Does VP or iPhone record spatial audio with spatial video? That would be some wizardry.

I’m not sure (I have rubbish hearing and could never work out Spatial Audio on the AirPods etc) but it feels like the sound becomes encompassing when you select the video to make it immersive. To my ears at least.

Based on this press release it sounds like videos from VP are in Spatial Audio. Still looking around.

Memories come alive: Featuring Apple’s first three-dimensional camera, Apple Vision Pro lets users capture, relive, and immerse themselves in favorite memories with Spatial Audio. Every spatial photo and video transports users back to a moment in time, like a celebration with friends or a special family gathering.

Edit: Looking at iPhone 15 Pro specs it looks like it will only record stereo.

Thanks for looking that up. Ah ok, only the VP must have the proper mic setup for recording spatial audio.
I sort of prefer front hemisphere-only audio for bounded screens anyway, whether the screens are virtual or real or flat or stereoscopic. I only like full surround audio in full VR experiences where I can turn around. So for bounded screens I don't need sound from behind, but if the screen takes up a lot of my field of view then it would be nice to get sound from above and below. Hopefully future iPhones will have the mic setup for that too.

This appears to be just the way the photos app shows pictures and videos. I used some third-party app (I forget which one), and the edges weren't touched.

When I'm watching a video that's the first place I go - the signs and certificates on the wall, the letter in the actors hand, etc.

Interesting. Source?

Just a quick search at 3am over here but yeah. I remember reading about it on the verge as well as John prosser talking about it on his podcast

Apparently the sentiment inside Apple was that this was a very very early look at a product that won’t be where they want it for a few gens. Engineers and designers that worked on it wanted to wait for the technology to be much smaller and affordable but Tim Cook told them they need to get the product out now to lay the foundation they can iterate on. We might be a good 6 years away from a mass market headset that people won’t think is niche

Morning all,

Quick update, after 10 days post return of the AVP I am missing it. Was watching movies on the iPad in the garden yesterday and genuinely wanted to make the screen bigger and place it in front of me. 🫤🤨 😁

That immersion for media consumption just can't be beaten.

Yeah the immersion can’t be beat. I’m in an airport now and wish I had one with me.

I am quite astonished about the quality - usually I do NOT like even photos of myself. I would try a different (monohrome) background.

Actually struggling with my very blond hair, which is disappearing in my persona. Not particularly Voldemort, but somewhat "skinheaded"... 🤣🤣
Make sure there's good lighting from all directions when scanning your Persona, and there's a neutral background behind you.

Did another attempt to get it with more hair, but the color of my artificially blond hair and the skin color is too equal. The AVP does not see it. I will leave my copy inside the AVP the way it is for now.

Strange. The LiDAR Scanner is supposed to capture shape, while the cameras capture color and other details. Are you using any kind of protector on your AVP , such as PU covers to protect the glass front?
Try scanning outdoors with natural light, no need to be under the Sun, but in a well lid with natural light.
Also, I wonder if you may be using LED lightbulbs with a low CRI (color rendering index = color quality). That could definitely cause the effect you described earlier.

I hate phone cases and never would pack pack the AVP into a plastic case. As for the LED, which are indeed present. Philips HUE have a CRI of about 80-90 "white".
But your hint towards the LiDAR-Scanner is indeed interesting. Everything in experimental phase. I will do another attempt to get approval for some hair. 😊

As a test, before you mess up your hair, try to use another person to scan their persona.
