My AT&T phone that I got launch day at Best Buy is A1661.
I heard Best Buy doesn't get carrier specific stock, and just shares a single inventory.

Well I just returned a 1784 and kept a 1661. Hope the Qualcomm modem is indeed better. At least selling on Craigslist next year should be easier since I can sell to anyone and not just AT&T and T-Mobile customers.

Official bands and supported carriers for each model

http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/
That list is not really true. As mentioned above, you can buy an officially supported, locked A1661 AT&T phone as standard from Best Buy.
I realize that the link you sent is from Apple themselves, but is is still misleading to not have AT&T listed as supported by the Qualcomm modem.

Not sure if it's the phone or the modem but I've noticed that my AT&T (Intel) 7+ is much more likely to switch to 4G when LTE coverage is bad. There's a particular stretch of road I drive by every day where LTE is spotty and I would always get interrupted streaming on my 6S while on the 7+ it switches to 4G and continues streaming uninterrupted. Day to day usage seems faster/more responsive (could be from A10) so no complaints.

Thanks for the update. How much battery was left for Qualcomm above? You reported that Intel had 20% battery left with 9hr 44m usage 15h 31m standby. Maybe Intel has a better battery life?

1% left

I think intel is better, I have both models. The intel one obviously more consistent and wifi has better range than the qc.

Yeah, I'm starting to get the feeling Intel is better for T-Mobile. Still need more data, but just anecdotally, in day to day use the Intel seems to feel better (speed/etc). Battery we'll see by EOD today.

For what is worth, I find my a1661 to have slightly worse reception compared to my old 6. I dont know if this is from the modem or the new antenna design.

Wow so the consensus is that Intel is superior in iPhone 7? I'm thinking about buying one tomorrow...
No consensus at all yet.

One person posted 40% better LTE performance with Qualcomm on T-Mobile.

One person posted 12% longer battery with Intel on T-Mobile.

Bit surprised no comprehensive tests yet. My prediction is wait 30 days and there will be very comprehensive tests from at least two sources. The world is too curious to see if Qualcomm has a real competitor not to do several head-to-head tests.

Yes need like that guy who had 50 models of each the tsmc and samsung processors and do the tests. Otherwise just get whatever or if you travel to cdma countries in the next couple years get the qcom

Intel: 9hr usage 13hr 13mim standby

That's also with 11% battery used on photo indexing after a restore.

My verdict: Intel gets about 1-2hr longer battery than Qualcomm, on T-Mobile.

Wow that's pretty significant. So it looks like Intel came to play.

Interesting!! Now I don't know which one to get..
Maybe Intel works better with GSM network providers or another software update will fix this problem, resulting in Qualcomm performing better in terms of battery life.

Maybe. I'll share my intel results tonight without photo indexing
