MacOS doesn't offer 3:1 scaling. So if you wanted to retain integer scaling for maximum sharpness, you'd need to go 2:1, which might cause the UI elements to be be uncomfortably small. They'd be 80% of the size they are on the iMac, ASD and XDR.
man this sounds perfect. I find 2:1 on a iMac to be a little too big. But anything smaller is less sharp and that’s worse. 1:1 of course is too small, but that’s what I’ve been using lately. I just zoom in all my webpages and apps and it’s been acceptable.

@PixelsForBreakfast I did some playing around and investigating and found something that validate @nikosl7's theory that it's a macOS bug: if I add the camera to OBS Studio and capture it at 4K (3840x2160) then I don't get the flicker (which does give me a workaround of using the OBS Virtual Camera in calls, which is overkill and silly, but does work) but if I capture it at 1080p (1920х1080) I do get the flicker. So it seems to be some aspect of macOS capturing the camera at 1080p only?

EDIT: Nevermind this stopped working and I got the flicker again. WHY IS THIS PROBLEM SO INCONSISTENT?!?
I wonder if something specific to your system is causing it. I never had this problem with my Brio at either 4K or 1080p.

Hi all, want to confirm my setup will work with this monitor. I have a Mac Pro 2019 with a W6800X MPX module. Currently on Ventura 13.6.3. Reading this thread, it seems like an upgrade to Sonoma is needed to get 60Hz via DSC to work. Will I need anything else (e.g. BetterDisplay or something to control resolution)? Or will the native U3224KB resolution work now?

I’m on a M1 Mac Studio and the Dell U3224KB. Previously on Ventura and it didn’t work at full resolution natively without hacks (betterdisplay etc)

Now on Sonoma 14.2 and it works perfectly without any additional hacks.

On my 2019 Intel MacBook Pro it works great, but only on Sonoma. Like I said, they finally fixed DSC in Sonoma so you can run this at 60Hz in all its modes.

&tldr: Am I good w/M2 MacBook Pro w/Sonoma via TB4 if all I want is clarity and space, coming from an LG UltraFine 5k.

I've had the LG UltraFine 5k since launch, which now has significant burn in, writing code most of the day it finally annoyed me enough to go for the ASD (It's like I have perma dock & desktop icons with xcode document ghosting everywhere, depending on what's currently displayed), which after reading this thread for awhile, I canceled and went for the Dell 6k, from B&H (a few hundred less than Dell's site), thinking it'd feel like an upgrade, it should be here on Friday.

I was having strong cognitive dissonance w/the ASD around the price compared to the LG UltraFine and that it basically felt like the same thing all these years later.

I was concerned about the Dell 6k somewhere 20 pages ago with different signaling over various connections but it seems to be all good now w/TB4 on Sonoma, which is a treat as I rock two Macs typically (one personal, one for work).

Am I on the right track or in the fast lane to disappointment?

I don't care about HDR on my computer, I have a Sonly OLED w/Dolby Vision that delivers there, I want this for clarity and space, with the occasional video game here or there (like Starcraft or old Diablo, which I'm not even sure runs on M chips tbh.. been a minute, I guess playing games is a nice idea I have but in reality I haven't even tried since I've gone with the M2 MacBook, again probably due to the Sony w/the Xbox at 120Hz).

I also have nystagmus and a general astigmatism so side by side screens, or things with long flat lines sometimes look wobbly and/or I feel off-centered, so I've been a single screen dev since going 4k/5k (from 2 Veiwsonic HDs side by side).

I initially delayed my purchase of the Dell 6K as a result of the issues described in this thread.

Ultimately, I bought it, and am incredibly happy. I'm using the monitor for general office applications, email, and web browsing, with every once in a while watching some short videos.

The monitor is perfect for these scenarios. Crystal clear text (I run it at the default resolution, so the PPI is essentially the same as your 27" 5K monitor). No problems connecting to a Mac Mini Pro M2 via Thunderbolt; I'm running Ventura.

Do I wish it was glossy instead of matte, in order to get a wee bit more "pop" to the color like with the ASD or the Pro XDR? Sure, but for general office work, I feel like I'm getting 95+% of the Pro XDR at <50% of the price.

My only "issue" is that I wish the webcam were removable. I find it to be crap, and went back to using the Logitech webcam that I used on my previous monitor (a Dell 5K 27" monitor).

If you're in the US, watch Amazon and Dell like a hawk -- I got it for $2,320, and I've seen it as low as $2,150. That's a bargain compared to the Pro XDR at $5,000 plus $1,000 for the stand. (I do see though, that it's not currently available on Amazon.)

Awesome, this speaks to me, thank you!
From B & H all in it was a few bucks over $2,400, I just hope its of good stock but seems like I can work w/Dell on warranty if needed, hopefully not.

Quoting myself - my U3224KB arrived today. Everything works as expected on the system above - native resolution at 60 Hz. I did upgrade to Sonoma ahead of time. Thanks again!

Not everything has to be a piece of tryhard " " art " "

This is perfectly fine, like pretty much any recent Ultrasharp.
Agreed. But although I like mine, a version w/o the top bar and camera would be nice. But I'm probably in the minority in wanting just the panel and no speakers or camera.

I'd be quite happy with the speakers if they were good quality, I'm sticking with my external design as the inbuilt ones are some of the worst I've come across.

I'd go for that, I already have external speakers and have been using continuity camera w/the iphone on a desktop swivel stand, its neat.

You'd think with all the specialized ways people need to see information that modular monitor setups would be a thing, like use this panel, in this enclosure with these add-ons, maybe one day.

but for the dam* webcam bubble. Otherwise I find the monitor aesthetically fine. While not the build quality of the ASD or Pro XDR, it doesn’t exude “cheap” the way the LG displays do (which are too plasticky).

Even though I want internal speakers, I’d also be ok with this so long as Dell offered a soundbar that clips to the bottom of the monitor. I just don’t want more wires strewn across my desk and more things taking up desk space.

that said, it seems apparent the monitor was developed to take advantage of WFH, particularly for Windows users. I imagine the webcam works better in Windows (or at least hope it would).

Re continuity camera, tho… for me, this is a great feature when I’m traveling and am using someone’s external monitor that doesn’t have a webcam. But for my home/office setup, I do enough Zoom and Teams meetings that I couldn’t imagine not having a dedicated webcam

Really? I thought they were no worse than average. They’re not ASD quality, but I’ve heard a lot worse from built-in speakers.

I got one of these u3224kb, i was not super happy about it. The picture was all blurry, but it looks like it's because i put it together with 5K ASD on the same thunderbolt cable, it chose the wrong resolution by default as there was not enough bandwidth or something? Switching it to separate cable made it possible to choose the right resolution.

Has anybody succeeded in removing the anti glare? does the old method of soaking and peeling work?

Is there an update to this monitor in 2024? Was hoping for a 120hz variant.

I think the bandwidth requirements for 120Hz refresh is what's preventing that from coming to market. If what I've read is correct, a 6K monitor at 60Hz comes pretty close to hitting the 40Gbps limit of Thunderbolt 3.

Definitely your blurriness was due to trying to drive it and a 5K display on the same Thunderbolt Port.

How does it look when you drive it by itself on that port, and use the 3072 x 1728 default resolution, which gives 2:1 integer scaling? That will give you the sharpest picture this display is capable of (1:1 will be equally sharp, but the UI will be much smaller).

It will still be less sharp on text than a glossy display, but the difference should be modest.

Displayport and HDMI can do it. But Why would you even market a TB3 monitor these days, when TB4 has been the standard for two years now?
