this is a prime example why most pc users hate mac people. i have a dell inspiron 700m and a mac mini. I like both machines for certain reasons. Your claims that dell is copying apple is just flat out ridiculous. maybe the macbooks are copying dell's 700m display that's called truelife? hmmmm why don't you do some researc and find out that other companies have been doing things for a long time. Just bc apple decided to do it one day doesn't mean they were the makers of it. So basically......Dell copied apple with their macbook display design, sony copied apple with the integrated webcam, Dell, HP, IBM, emachines, sony, toshiba etc all copied apple with their intel chips. All companies innovate one time or another. Apple has to do it all the time to keep people interested bc of the low market share. Seriously, the xps doesn't even somewhat resemble a macbook pro whatsoever. maybe bc they have the same screen size but that's about it. The m1210 has a truelife screen invented by apple and the legendary isight built in. and i don't even wanna talk about the other one...who the heck would buy that thing?

Anways, the point is....people like you give apple the bad name it gets from pc users. Even if i had only apple stuff I still wouldn't have the same attitude you have. Get a life and realize that other companies have thought of cool ideas before apple has....

*sigh*... did you even read anyones response to the original post? with the exception of the original poster... I don't think anyone thought that Dell was copying apple.
Furthermore, most of the comments regarding those dells more or less were about how ugly we all thought they were... saying nothing of performance. And frankly, I stand by my earlier post... they are ugly.
That is my OPINION (key word) saying people are stuck up because they like the way apples computers look in comparison to dells is absolutely ridiculous. do you buy clothes by the way they look? because I certainly do... and no thank you, no sweat suit (my fashion equivilent to those ugly dells) for me... I'd rather have a nice fitted shirt, and a good pair of jeans.

yeah and that was my response to the original post bc that is what this whole entire thread is about.....the original poster was the one that started the thread haha. didn't know you had to quote the exact person to get your opinion in. there are plenty of hardcore mac people out there and obviously the OP is one of them as you are. I didn't know I wasn't entitled to my own opinion if other people responded first. And it's not about how apple's look. It's the attitude of the stuck up apple users like other people agreed with me about. If you would have actually read my post you would have realized i was being sarcastic and adding in dumb stuff like the OP was doing...but i guess you couldn't comprehend that.

everyone that posted has a point. This is normal business practice. It is appropriation. This is how creation works, appropriating/taking ideas/ running with what works and makes money. Apple does it, Dell does it, everyone does it in business. Good ideas will be used and put forth, and thats just the way it is. Dell may copy some aspects of apple that works, and vise versa.

i think the 12" dell laptop is really nice and wouldve strongly considered getting that instead of the macbook. but the MB is cheaper, faster, and can run windows plus looks nicer (i find the symmetry and simplicity very appealing).

i really dont understand dell's bad rep. just because they mass produce consumer computers doesnt make them bad. theyre reliable and the service is great.

I agree with you. I have NEVER had a bad dell computer upon arrival. When I did have a problem down the road with one of them, the service was amazing. Turn around time was less than a week for the repair. We have Dells in the office where I work that travel 3 days a week and are 4 years old.. still working great. I would rather be using a powermac or MBP at work I will admit, but there is nothing wrong with Dell either. And their support is better than Apple's in MY experiences. Others may have had a different experience tho.

Haha, sometimes I'm glad I'm an only child. Don't just run away from a thread because you made a comment people do not agree with tho. Take people's comments and run with them. Admit that you may have overlooked some points in your original post. Talk to people who are standing up for Dell and other brands for why they like them vs Apple. This thread is actually a good opportunity to get a feel for how mac users can also be PC users and not explode from being with both platforms in the same room. Have some fun with the thread and go with it. Its just an online forums so who cares if people humiliate you anyways :)

The laptops are sick. And I don't mean dope-sick, I mean vomit-sick.

Cheap, plastic chunk! With that bargain-basement Dell-design, how fly do they look!

If Dell is appealing to the masses, their making a very good job of it, everything they make seems to be a black/silver plastic clone, theres no distinction between their low end, and *forgive me, cough cough* high end systems.

As for the supposed iMac-look-a-like, it is the most vile repulsive creation I have ever seen. And it resembles a digital drum kit we had in Primary School.

What goes through these peoples heads? Amen, Apple.

Hey lets give Dell some credit at least when their laptops stop working you wont feel bad about using the amazingly designed machines as paperweights and door props.

Dells latitude line has some well built machines in it. The current latitudes actually use very little plastic in their design to help with durability. However, the feel of the Inspiron line does leave much to be desired.

Oh yeah, as far as desktops go... Apple owns :)

Dell is copying Apple! Yes! They are now putting processors in their systems! And Keyboards! Would you imagine that they even put a dvd recorder? And an operating system? Just because it is windows it doesn't mean nothing! It is an operating system! How could they do that! And they have a media player! And a browser! The filthy copycats! And who told them that they could have a 20" screen? And also a built in camera? They just keep on copying! Thinking about it why do they have all the stuff that is an industry standard no matter what brand, operating system or personal feelings about it? the whole industry is copying Apple! That's it! And laptops/portable computers! Who ever thought of that? And again making them with the same specs of the MBP? I wonder how Acer actually brought out the first core duo laptop one month ahead of the MBP! Talk about seeing into the future!
Imacintel your vision is blurry, your brain is tired and unless you cool down your hands will start growing hair! Control your love for Apple there are far better thing to love in life!

Haha. I'm actually thinking about getting an iMac 17" but I want to wait until after they get their refresh. It has been six months so they must be due soon I hope. As soon as they get updated, I'm buying one :)

lol, I see these posts all over again. This one missed one thing though: "Go get laid for once, and get a life outside MR and Apple's website:D ".

I wonder how Apple was capable of creating the iMac let's say, 10 years before Smell. I also wonder how they were the first to make 17" laptops, use Gbit ethernet, wireless notwork, FW800... That's just so wierd, Apple didn't copy those things? :D

Mate, nobody is putting any of Apples technological advances at stake! They always were inovators and anyone who can not acknowledge that needs to get laid even more desperately than the OP! It is just that that kind of ranting about anybody copying anybody in a time where industry standards dictate the rules is just absurd! Everybody offers the same +or- with a different package, brand and design! Apple have great features (wouldn't have one if it didn't) but pre-puberty rants from someone who says he gets affected after 5 days without a Mac... (like the OP)... Imacintel - girls are cool! Far cooler than computers! Mac, Dell, Acer, whatever! Go get one (just don't talk about computers)! Good luck!

Id agree 100% the computer is good and I have to say it does keep my hands warm, but the girl is much better, I will admit I miss my Mac at work as it resides on the XP side, but still I know it will always be a reboot away.

I don't *hate* Dell. I don't *hate* Microsoft.

I very much dislike people bashing Dell for the sake of bashing them. There have been instances where companies come out with *very* similar products especially some very similar to the iPod. I also very much disregard almost any comment that utilizes "Micro$oft", "Winblows", "Dull", or any other derivative thereof.

If you are going to post that Dell is copying Apple please give some information regarding what you think they are copying instead of posting a link to a product page where the items don't look similar at all. I understand that you're now saying that they are copying by putting a camera in the LCD frame and a media player and to me those still don't display copying. Putting a camera in the LCD frame isn't something new even to Apple nor is having a program like Frontrow. Did they do it well? Yes. First? I'd guess no.

If you're only going to post a link to a copy make sure it's visually a copy as that's all we can assume they are copying without specifics. Most people aren't going to consider a camera, a hard drive, a screen resolution, etc a copy. An MP3 player that has the same capacity as an iPod is not considered to be copying. An MP3 player that looks and functions quite similarly to an iPod would be considered a copy.

I wish you the best if you stay or leave imacintel but if you're going to start a thread about something many Mac users are tired of hearing about at least give us something new to go with...

The only real resemblance my brain could adjust to was that the XPS2010 desktop thingie looked like the 20 year anniversary Mac from 10 years ago.

If Dell are trying to copy Apple with those machines, it's more of a case "let's copy Apple and then make it worse. And don't forget the shallow flashyness!" which is what Microsoft does with OS X. Oh well, welcome to the industry!

Edit: but still no need to humiliate the OP out of the forum, damnit!

This thread is funny.

I would like to thank the OP for bringing my attention to that Dell system. Although, I cannot justify spedning 4 grand on a computer, that certainly looks like a nice machine with lots of well-thought features.

hate to say it but you kind of set your self up for it. Asking for it to be wasteland is oinly going to make it that much worse. Pretty much you are going to have to deal with it until this tread runs it course. That and buy a stronger flame suit.
