A "first look" at the P2415Q here (Chinese). Doesn't tell us much however. :(

I dunno... It tells me that repacking this thing is nigh-impossible unless you're some kind of Origami mastermind... :D :p

Oh, and it's good to know that a modern 4K display still supports 80x25 character DOS/BIOS output in case I want to hook it up to a 1980's IBM PC (seriously, is anybody here just stunned and amazed that 30 years later, you still see this when booting a PC) <shakes head>

I figure it's a link back to our ancestors. You know, like those cave paintings in France.

Have you tried the default SST mode?
Not many around here are interested in running the UP2414Q in SST mode at 30Hz...

FWIW, I've been running this monitor at 30Hz for a while now, using an HDMI-cable since the mini-DisplayPort plug came loose from my nMP rather easily. I don't see any difference compared with MST/60Hz (my old eyes aren't sensitive enough for that, I guess); and I feel that both the UP2414Q and my nMP produce less heat that way. Also: no wake from sleep issues, tapping the keyboard once or twice wakes the display without fail (albeit a little slowly).

I'll pass on the UP2415Q, but am still interested in what Apple might do with a 24-inch 4K panel...

I learned about the limitations of Google Translate from Chinese. Reading that mess gave me a headache. I had no idea there were THAT many departments and Ministries involved in reviewing a computer monitor. Bottom line: I don't think the he was too impressed...bad light bleed for one.

"Department of smell mon really are Diwu to pixel"

Smelly pixels? I am definitely not buying this!

:D:cool:

I was finally able to order today. I just ordered a pair of the P2715Q. ETA is Dec. 8th. However, I'm hoping it might be a bit sooner than that.

Anyone considering these in the US can take advantage of some coupons...

As usual, no love for us Canadians on these kinds of savings although I was able to negotiate Dell down about 10% on mine.

If someone would have told me a few weeks ago that you could get an SST IPS 4K display (at any size) with decent color gamut for $500 before the end of the year, I would have laughed. Amazing really.

How much did you get them for?

Has no one reviewed this monitor yet? It is released in my region on 27th and I was really hoping to have some hand-on data before I pulled the trigger. Everything I have seen so far makes it sound awesome; but a (small) part of me is tempted by a gaming monitor I could use with the PC which would only be 2560x1440 but have a great response time, g-sync etc.

Data please!

These look like they might fit the bill for me. I just bought a Macbook Pro Retina in sept and would love to add an external 4K display. Will wait for the reviews but here is an out of left field question for anyone:

I remember seeing demos of the MacBooks from 2013? driving multiple monitors over thunderbolt.

Does anyone think that a 2014 macbook pro retina could drive TWO of these displays over thunderbolt / display port at once in 60z at full 4K. (even if it means i would run my macbook in closed shell mode)

Is there a limitation with the connectors on these displays in regards to mac?

Is there enough VRAM to drive both? I have the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB

??

As far as I know, the MacBooks have a single TB2 controller (with two ports) that would take a single DP1.2 input so only one 4K display or a pair of lesser displays (eg. Apple TBD).

I have a very noob question regarding this monitor, that I hope to get some help from the very intelligent folks in this topic.

I have the newest 15 Macbook Pro (Iris Pro graphics one). Can I still use this monitor on the integrated graphics version of the MBP? And if I so, then what converter would I need to get in order to use this monitor with my MBP?

Really? It's selling for less right now.

Really? Where? On Dell.ca it's showing $759 CAD here.

As far as I know, all MacBooks from late 2013 onwards can support a single external 4K display so it should work just fine with your MacBook with the mini-DP to DP cable provided in the box... Nothing else required.

If I'm not mistaken you will only get 30 Hz with a single DP cable. Or you could get 60 Hz but have only one half of the screen displaying something. This screen requires two DisplayPorts to run its full resolution at 60 Hz.

That's true for the new Dell 5K display. This thread is covering their new 4K displays.

Looks like these are nearly same specs as UP2414q except slightly lower gamut and color accuracy guarantee, lower brightness, plus no audio out, right? So UP2414q will still be the "premium" display, but P2415q will probably be sufficient for many/most use cases (however, despite the confusing numbering, shouldn't be considered an updated model).

Yeah, from what I can tell UP is Dell's higher-end Ultrasharp line while P is their Professional line. Features and and price being the differentiators. The big draw to these new 4K displays is support for SST (UP2414Q requires MST), IPS panel, and price.

Geez, with all the problems the UP2414Q has had, I'm not sure I really want to buy a lower-end model. The first reviews and forum threads will be crucial.
