^^^^ Wow nice. Sucks to be Canadian sometimes... no such deal here. :roll eyes:

EDIT: What happened to your post?

I just realized I only got that great deal because I was logged into my Dell Premier account when ordering. So this price would not reflect what the average person would get.

BTW, under my Dell.ca account page, it shows my orders with an estimated shipping date of Dec. 8th (nothing new) but in the order details, it says "Expected delivery 1/1/2015 (updated)" which is not nice. So I chatted with a Dell support rep, and FWIW, he said it would ship next week. I really don't trust them. I guess we'll see soon enough.

Is anyone else able to see their order on their Dell account page? Are you seeing a discrepancy between ship date and delivery date?

Ordered 12/2 and still shows in production with estimated delivery of 12/19.

Has anyone received the monitor and how does it work with macbook pro? I don't like Dell's return policy. They charge for restocking fee. Meanwhile, I found buy.com is actually selling P2815Q for $486. How could that even possible?

What other 4k monitors have been tested for mbp users? I'm looking for a 4k 24" monitor. Smaller screen means higher dpi.

I've seen them as low as $325 at the dell refurb store with coupon codes. It's not a very popular screen because of the slow 30hz refresh rate and TN panel.

man i'm thinking about canceling this, asus is coming out with a 27inch 4k ips as well, and that's going to be 10 bit. versus this being only 8 bit.

Have a model number and/or link on that?

I believe that it is the Asus PB279Q. I see that it's available for pre-order in the UK for £679, which probably means it will be around $650 in the US

ETA date for the UK is 19/12. This is the monitor I am thinking of getting, unless the issues with the LG 31MU97 are sorted out in the mean time.

Is anyone here going to use this Dell display (27") for mostly coding?

I want this to see more code, but am concerned that the text will either be so small that i have to ramp it up to a size that negates the 4K "ness" or some other text situation that i have not thought up.

A virtual six pack of beer to the first person that gets a display an reviews it from a programmers point of view!!

I too am interested to hear more about this use case.

Me too. +1

I should be getting mine on Tuesday. I have tracking numbers now.

Let me know what you guys want to see on the screen, and I'll do my best to accomodate.

I would love to see Xcode open in "dual pane" mode where there are two text/code documents open at the same time.

(if you are not a programmer, Xcode is a free download from the app store)

I would love to see what you think of the text at font point size 11, or if that is too small for someone who does not wear glasses.

This is a cropped (unfortunately) image that i would love to see:

thanks!!

Like most people without a rMBP 15 (or Mac Pro), I will be running this at 2560x1440. I imagine things will look fine. Even though it's not ideal, it should be at least as good as my current native 1920x1200 screen. 2560x1440 scaled to 4K = as clear as 1080P with more work space-- hopefully.

I will being running native from my PC with my GTX970 though, but Windows purportedly scales terribly. :p Oh well, games will look great, and it can at least be chalked up to being "future-ready" or something. We'll see on Tuesday.

Disregard if this whole post reads like nonsense.

"2560x1440"

Good point.

I would also love to know if going from 38xx to 25xx makes the text just "way" more legible.

Perhaps this is another way of looking at the display, not necessarily for more screen real estate, but instead, a 27" display that is close / same as retina even though we don't get any more screen real estate then a "regular" 27" LCD display.

Yes - and I just ordered one. I've been running on a UltraSharp 24" Dell at 1920x1200 res. on my home PC for last several years (great monitor, btw) but window management has always been an issue, esp. while coding for the web where you need couple of browsers open.

This is the primary reason I'm upgrading to 4k, and also for photography/Lightroom work.

I've also picked out my GPU upgrade (GTX 750TI FTW 2GB, $170 at amazon) but will wait to see how will the integrated graphics (Intel HD 4600) does. My MB (Asrock Z87M Extreme4) has HDMI out (no DisplayPort), so I'll be limited to 30 Hz at 4k until the GPU upgrade.

Just ordered the 24 inch. These things must be selling like hotcakes. Est. delivery date 12/29.

Anyone seen ANY reviews other than the Chinese one. Anyone actually tried one one the new MP or other 4K Mac?

Two things:
  1. can the rMBP (Mid 2014), with dGPU drive both a 1440 screen (Dell U2714H over HDMI) and a 4K display?
  2. Can someone post a screenshot of what 4K with no scaling looks like at 27", preferably with a coder/developer workflow visible so I can overlay it on my Dell and get a sense of the size of the elements.

Thanks

IMHO, I'd really suggest that going to 4K for more screen real estate is a bad idea unless you're going to a monitor that is at least 32". Unless you have exceptional eyesight (as in the kind of eyesight no one has), unscaled usage of a 4K monitor is really not something that works well in practice for any stretch of time, especially for text intensive activities like programming. I've tried out 3 different 4K monitors for this purpose and the best results for font legibility were at 1.5X or 2X scale. My suggestion would be that if you're not looking to run scaled, there are lots of awesome large IPS monitors that you can get at half the price of a 4K monitor.
