Would anyone venture a guess if the gussied up Macbook with "Kaby Lake" out this year would be able to handle 4K at 60? And why would anyone need 16gb memory for hooking up to a 4k tv? BONUS: What does one do with Mac 5K material (whatever the hell that is)!?

My current work setup is dual p2715q with 2015 rMBP w. R9 370x. It's AWESOME. I usually keep the laptop in clamshell mode. It's "near" retina at the distance at which I use the machines.

Of course, I'd now love dual LG 5k ultra fines with the new 15" rMBPtb. But I don't think my bosses would spring for that...
I use my 13" rMBP with Dell P2415Q. Can I attach another of the same monitor (P2415Q/P2715Q) to the Mac? If yes, will it need to be connected via the HDMI port or the second TB2 port? I postponed buying the second 4K display until I am sure of its usability. I will be using these mainly for reading and writing.
Another related question (sorry, I don't know much about this stuff), I would rather buy a larger (27" or 29") second display since the use is mostly text-based. Can you recommend what resolution monitor would be best for that purpose? (I bought 4K because it looks as good as the retina screen. It would however be nice to have a larger monitor in the same price range).

I ordered a used P2415Q, looks in good condition for £100 less than retail value.

I read there was issues with the A01 model but it seems to be okay so far with waking up from sleep etc but I'm using a MacBook Pro 2009 model. Would I get any issues with the most recent 2016 MacBook Pro?

I currently connect my external speakers to the monitor via USB to headphone jack converter as the headphone jack connection doesn't seem to pickup the speakers directly (monitor is connected over display port).

I had quite a bit of issues (wake from sleep, audio) when using a 2013 MBP, but since I switched to a 2016 MBP no problems at all.

Hi !

I have the same question as you, did you end up getting an answer ?

If yes does it support dual 60hz or is it 30hz ?

In general I would imagine the way to go is to use both tb ports instead of the hdmi which seems limited in terms of resolution and refresh rates.

Cheers !

Recently bought a P2715Q, running it at 2560x1440 HiDPI (4K @ 60 Hz)... and I'm very happy with this display!

I'm also using an old Dell 2007FP 20.1 display (IPS panel) @ 1600x1200, which I use solely for watching and recording cable TV via an EyeTV HD.

These are connected to a flashed GTX 680 4GB vid card.

So far no wake from sleep issues, and I'm hoping that because my P2715Q was manufactured in March of this year, that they finally fixed that issue. Wishful thinking, I know. ;)

I went through 5 replacements until the burn in issues were resolved, my monitor was also manufactured this year. If I were to leave my computer on with no screen saver for 30 minutes, I would come back to the image being burned into the display. I'm wondering if they're using a new LCD on these displays.

Adding to this thread. I did a lot of searching on this site about the P2715Q and compatibility with a Mac Pro 5,1 and AMD7950 (flashed) and it does work with the helpful hints provided by information on this site.

MST should be off in the monitor (it is off by default) to run it at 60hz. Monitor needs to be turned off before booting or restarting the Mac. Once the boot chime is heard, wait a few seconds just to be sure and then turn on the monitor using the power button. I'm running the monitor at the scaled 2560X1440 at 60hz which makes things nice and clear. If I need the bootscreen, one can change the MST setting to I believe MST Secondary (if one can't get into the menu, one holds the GREEN Checkmark for 8 seconds to change the MST settings) The other option is to use an HDMI cable from what I read on this site.

So far, thrilled with the monitor. It is such a nice upgrade from the U2410 I was working with previously. (I should run both!)

Update: 7-29-2017 One can also change the MST setting to secondary via the menu first before restarting (or during a OS update).

Update: 9-19-17 No change with High Sierra, one has to reboot either with monitor off or MST set to secondary--- otherwise, system provides no video to monitor.

It's been a while since I've posted in this tread, I've been loving 2 Dell P2415Q monitors connected to my Late 2015 15" MacBook Pro. Well, through my VA education program, they bought me a 2017 15" MacBook Pro.

I haven't been able to find a good solution on how to hook up my 2 existing monitors? Do I need a $300 dock? Is the solution to buy USB-C to DisplayPort cables? If so, I'm not super wild about using up all 4 of my USB-C ports. (Monitor, Monitor, Charge Cable, USB Hub)

I love Apple's computers but this 4 port USB-C arrangement is frustrating.

I guess what I'm asking is, what have folks in similar situations done?

Does High Sierra finally support daisy chaining? If so, can I get a USB-C to DisplayPort cable, and then use a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable downstream?

I run one monitor in landscape and the other in portrait. This isn't an issue with potential daisy chaining is it?

Again, Thanks everyone for all your awesome help. I really appreciate it!

I use a Caldigit TS3 dock. One monitor uses a USB C to DP cable, the other uses a displayport cable. (I only have one P2415Q, but the dock can do 1 5K or 2 4K). I connect an external keyboard and mouse to a USB switch which goes to the dock, and hard drive, all over one TB cable that charges the computer. Works great. If you don't want to spend $300 on a TB dock you will need two USB C to DP cables.

Looks like High Sierra still doesn't do daisy chaining: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-daisy-chaining-works-on-high-sierra.2051490/

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to look into docks. It would be nice to just plug in a single cable and have everything work. At $300 I wonder if it's worth it to look into eGPU setups. I mean, the dev kit is $600 but if you pieced it together yourself, you could likely put it together cheaper.

So you were able to drive both of those 4k monitors at 60hz?
how did you have them connected?
i have a 2715q and wanted to get another but want to make sure my 2015 rMBP (with AMD r9) can run both at 60hz.

I haven't gotten it to work with my 2017 MacBook Pro. I'm still using my 2013 until I come up with a solution. Right now, I'm considering a eGPU setup because a dock would cost $300 or so. That being said, I have been told that I can buy 2 thunderbolt 3 to displayport cables and hook them up the same way I currently am. I just didn't want to take up all 4 ports unless I had to. I may end up doing that until AMD's VEGA drops later this year. Currently, I'm considering the Mantiz Venus eGPU enclosure.

So, yes, you can run both displays at 4K, 60HZ. I have the 2013 with the 750M and I'm running 4K, 60HZ, with the integrated GPU.

I am in the market for a 24 inch Retina quality display to use with a late 2013 15" rMBP, with Iris pro and Nvidia GT 750m.

It surprises me that nearly three years after this thread started, the Dell P2415Q still seems as good as anything out there.

Or is there something newer and better I have missed?

Thanks.

Me too, I'm in process of searching the goods and bads, I'll purchase it along with MacBook Pro 2017 after i've given up the idea of purchasing iMac.

If I was buying for a 2017 MBP I would probably buy a USB-C monitor, eg one of these:

https://9to5mac.com/2016/11/22/best-4k-5k-usb-c-displays-macbook-pro/

https://www.imore.com/best-usb-c-monitors-mac

http://appleinsider.com/articles/16...-apples-usb-c-macbooks-is-as-simple-as-can-be

Because I was buying for a late 2013 MBP I can't use these.

I have got my P2415Q monitor now and am happy, but not delighted with it. In most ways it is better than I expected, but screen uniformity is average with a very slight yellow tint on the left third. It is not noticeable in use unless I look for it, and sometimes I think I am imagining it. I have seen other comments about this on the P2415Q and other monitors in this price range, so I am not going to return it.

Did you buy it from Dell? Their return process is pretty great. They’ll ship you a new one before you send the old one back, and they’ll arrange for UPS to pick it up. No downtime.

I didn’t have the yellow tint, but I had faint lines in the middle of the screen. Took me a few returns to get a perfect unit. Didn’t notice yellow on any of them, just the lines.

The USB-C -> mDP will be bought indeed as an accessory for the MacBook, But while I was searching, I've had a bit of disappointment in it too, I live somewhere not near the US, and I'm probably going to pay twice its retail price in the US (shipping + Taxes).

No, not yet, I'm researching and trying to figure out I'll return it in case I receive a bad one. Unfortunately Dell doesn't sell its monitors in the region where I live.

Thanks. No, not Dell, I bought it from an Amazon marketplace seller. I know I could return it, but it just isn't bothering me enough, and I might end up with worse in some way.

I love the Dell P2415q with the USB C MacBook Pro’s. It gives me 4 USB ports which I still desperately need. My monitor has been fantastic but would definitely exchange it if it was not perfect. Dell price matches just out anyone, so always better to try that before buying from someone else. Their return/warranty is usually very good.

Got my p2415q few days ago, and finally got to try it at work with macbook pro 2017. It looks good and I use it at 2048x1152 (slightly smaller than 2x scaling). Text still looks sharp and font/sizing is closer to macbook font size at 900p. My only issue right now is the color looks too warm (standard preset) compared to the macbook. Anyone have good color profile or settings to match the macbook colors better?

I have decided to request a return. Here is a screenshot (unedited) of the monitor showing how a plain white page looks. What do you think?

Same issue with mine. It tried it for 3 days. Couldn't get over the difference in color profile between the dell and macbook pro, the orange whites on left side, and the matte screen looks awful compared to a glossy one. I tested the LG ultrafine 4k with my laptop in the store today, and caved and bought one. Returning the dell.
