Overcast and Tunein Radio don’t work for me. Audio won’t play and podcasts wont download or stream. App updates take a very long time to download for me.

It might be incredibly stable because they’ve probably been improving it already. Typically we get betas on June 1-4 and I think it’s been 3 weeks now.

Ultimately it mostly depends on when WWDC starts. In various recent years that was closer to the beginning of June, while in other years it's been later in June.

how is battery life of the beta?
I noticed my battery is draining a lot faster with it. I am using an 11 Pro Max.

All in all, I agree with OP. Very stable and any app I use regularly works. My wireless CarPlay is extremely fast too. And yes, it is so much faster than iOS13, but I am guessing it will get bogged down with every new update.

its important to note a couple things

1- incredibly stable is subjective. for some people deal breakingly so, apps have broken and devs need to update them
2- not enough time has passed to really know. battery could be good, bugs could be not glaring but you need to put a build through its paces for weeks to fully understand the quirks and such (imo). after a few days, I think you can have a pretty decent grasp though of your general experience to expect
3- even if you did put it through its paces, its entirely possible build 2, etc. will be a regression in some ways but not others. lack of debugging is a helluva thing and real. Tread carefully from one to the next
4- experience across devices won't be uniform stability or features wise. i.e. App Drawer isn't in iPADOS 14 but it is for phones.. for now.

--

having said all that, the feedback in general for iOS 14 for a beta 1, has been pretty much stellar. I dont think Apple incorporated a super ton of new features in this one, just a select few, so that might contribute to it. Dunno. Could have more features pile on between now and GM, too

3 is the worst. Finally fix the last bug of 12 and 30 more are hiding behind. I definitely remember Mail being like that in 13. It was somewhat annoying at first, but at some point it went to total crap.

I put it on my iPad Pro and my backup iPhone XS Max, everything is running very smooth, and quick.

As others have said, I have seen some minor graphical glitches but nothing major.

Extremely stable for the first beta of a new version of iOS/iPadOS!

Edit: I would love to try it on my 11 Pro Max, but I am not stupid enough to put a beta on my daily driver (and neither should anyone else) no matter how stable/smooth/quick it is right now.

Should I install it on my personal iPhone? I can’t wait to try it but I don’t have a secondary device. I have an iPhone 8 (64gb), so my concern is mostly about the battery life and storage usage. Or should I wait?

I installed it yesterday, and I’m amazed at how stable and fast it is. I've seen very few bugs, and sometimes my phone gets warm, but it's really good to be the first beta, I thought it would be worse. I can't wait to see how good the official version will be. I know it's early to say this, but I'm pretty sure it will be better than iOS 12, and probably the most stable iOS version ever. It seems that the new software development process reported by Bloomberg a few months ago is working.

I’ve just had my first hard crash on beta 1. Safari completely locked up and then the phone locked up entirely with a blank screen. About 1 minute later it started up again and started working no problem.

It’s on my daily driver which is an iPhone 11 Pro Max and it works perfectly. I’m not how anyone can really be a tester if it’s not on their main device. Those with “backup” phones, what exactly is that? Sure I’ve got a drawer full of iPhones, not really sure how I could test iOS 14 on them for 15 minutes a night with no cell service.

My only issue is the translate app. Maybe it's not ready yet on the server side?

Other than that, haven't had no issues yet.

To be honest, I don't use my phone much anyway but I do need NumberSync and iMessage to work reliably so no plans on using the beta on that.

I've got multiple iPads that I use interchangeably. Right now, I'm using the one with 14 dev beta almost exclusively but if something fails on that, I could easily switch to an iPad with 13 for that particular task/app.

Experienced my first crash, too, likely memory related.

First it was constant error loading page in Safari which turned into an outright Safari crash immediately followed by a respring. Problem still wasn’t solved after respring and I had plenty of GUI glitches like the following so I had to manually reboot. To be honest though, I don’t think 13 would have fared any better after the same workload. I get similar glitches on 13 and pretty much have to reboot my iPad once a week or so.

I thought it was stable for the first day or so, but it’s been crashing my iPhone like 4-5 times/day for the past few days.

i would have installed it but dont want to lose my jailbreak on my 11 pm on 13.5. lol can already do everything 14 can and more

How are the day 1 people a week in? Is it still a stable experience or does the build show its nasty face already?

Beta builds usually run great day 1-2 but then slowly start to nag at your sanity a week in.

All fine from here. I think the only thing I’ve noticed is Maps lags just a tad. I honestly can’t think of anything else? Music restarts with Listen Now vs where you left off. And I don’t have the health widget everyone else does. Battery might drain quicker.

Those are honestly the only issues, if you call them that. On the plus side, it’s extremely fast over 13 and wireless Apple CarPlay works much better in terms of cars touchscreen responsiveness.

Yeah this is the big problem. Almost every OS runs well initially past the indexing as caches are purged. As they start piling up and things dont garbage collect as they should, thing get slower and slower and you’re left with the bugs.

Even ios13 ran pretty well the first week or so

It's basically a glorified update so I'm not surprised that it's running so well. There are a few little tweaks added as well as widgets, but nothing significant. It's off to a great start.
