Probably should wait. Betas are not typically optimized for battery performance so if that’s your concern then wait. On the other hand you can always go back to the released version if it doesn’t work out for you. Just requires some effort AND A GOOD BACKUP SAVED SOMEWHERE. (Preferably not just iCloud) If you rely on iCloud backup be sure to not overwrite it with an iOS 14 version after you install.Should I install it on my personal iPhone? I can’t wait to try it but I don’t have a secondary device. I have an iPhone 8 (64gb), so my concern is mostly about the battery life and storage usage. Or should I wait?
With iTunes no longer supporting apps, restoring backups takes a lot longer now, though. That downtime may not be acceptable particularly if the iPhone is essential to one’s telework. You are aware you can always go back if there are severe issues that affect your usage, yes?
True. There is some effort no question, but not like a "no turning back" scenario if things get really bad. That's all I meant. With iTunes no longer supporting apps, restoring backups takes a lot longer now, though. I normally wait until b2 or b3 (or more, sometimes) before dropping the dev betas of a major release on my phone, but I'm gonna take the plunge.
First bug so far. Swiping left from the 4th row of app icons doesn't work. Works ok from any other icon, just not the fourth row on any screen. Bug submitted![]()
Everything has been perfect so far, except Mario Kart and Pokemon Go, which load and then crash.I'm actually quite impressed so far. This definitely does not feel like a b1 in many respects. It's fast (feels faster than iOS 13), even inside apps like Facebook; in ~12 hours of use, I've only had a single app crash on me; I've yet to come across an app that doesn't work, etc.
Very pleased.
Odd. I have no problem swiping left from anywhere on the screen, and after seeing this post, I've tried not just from the fourth row, but from all rows and all columns of all rows. 100% swipe left success rate. iPhone 11 Pro Max.
I'm going to play devils advocate a bit. Once the public beta is out people should be making noise that apps don't work. I have tested almost every Beta even before the public betas were a thing. I can't tell you how many times an app was broken and the response was well its still beta. Then the OS launches and guess what? Still broken. The point is to be ready for fall and some developers in the past waited until after Final release to even try to fix things. It is a case of people having a developers account to gain early access. All good developers would realize that this BETA is to help them build apps for iOS14, not to test who’s apps don’t work on a BETA. They would also have a device specifically to run the iOS14 BETA, and for it not to be their primary device.
It happens every year. Even the public BETA is so Apple can have people test to see if the new features are working well, and to distinguish which reviews are likely going to be people annoyed at things they have no control over, like individual 3rd party apps not working.
The thing is though Starling is one of the worlds largest fintech companies. It is a bank that you can only access via an app (or browser if you are a business customers).I'm going to play devils advocate a bit. Granted in the past you couldn't launch an app update that leveraged the new OS update until after final. Apple has changed thier stance on this likely because of the things I've highlighted and public betas being a thing.
I'm not saying be annoying or write bad reviews but do be vocal. The answer is somewhere in-between. Don't be suprised things don't work. The new OS beta lifecycle should mean that by the final beta month most apps are ready to go.
Public betas exist to make more than just the base OS ready for fall in my opinion. Too easy in past years for developers to say well I'm not going to fix anything until GM/Final.
Running it on a 8+ since yesterday, it's very stable to me. None of my apps have been crashing and I've only noticed some minor graphical glitches here and there as well as some occasional sluggishness.
What's the cycle these days for beta releases of a new iOS? Two weeks?
Hi to all.
I am relatively new in Apple world, trying to research a lot about iOS, beta, etc
The reason why I am doing this is because I bought a second hand phone which has dev.beta 14.0 installed.
Everything works as it should, I believe, but I have 3 questions about that:
-is it possible to go back to 13 for someone that is not so technically experienced in iOS
-am I going to be able to install regular 14.0 after it is released even if I stick with this beta version until then (am I gonna be offered the official update)?
-the phone I bought is stil covered by Apple hardware support, would it be a good idea to go to Apple store and ask for their help?
Thanks in advance for all good people with useful information
cheers![]()

Yes, you only have to delete the beta profile.
