I use my tablet (Note 8) now taking notes all day while in meetings across the country, these notes go directly to evernote.

Here is the kicker - People in meeting expect us to take notes and using the S-Pen has been universally accepted for this purpose. My iPad, trying to yep (must keep eyes glued to screen) never was a big hit!

Yes, with a little practice you can take sloppy handwritten notes without staring at the tablet, then, get this, they're converted into nice neat text and go right into Evernote.

Getting all this in a smaller package will make it all the better for me. My primary work phone is a Maxx HD, which I can't upgrade. However it runs my Macbook pro rMBP all day long as a hotspot, another Apple no go for me. Replacing my personal cell with this beast is my perfect solution, not everyones.

Having said that, I will check the box for the leather trim package - oh wait its included! You, my friend can by a fragile 5S and purchase a $50-$100 leather cover on your own.
Different strokes for different folks.

I don't use cases for my phone (4s). I've really enjoyed the s pen which would be ideal for me on a tablet, but I want my phone to not be huge. Understand that these are just preferences for me. I'm really not all in interested in a pissing match over leather on a phone. Personally I don't like large phones which is why the note line isn't for me.

All that aside, except for the refinements in the stylus I see nothing innovative about this spec bump. I guess we have a different understanding of what innovation entails

The Note 3 is tempting, for use in meetings or on the train.

Places where a larger screen than a phone is useful, but not quite enough room to whip out the laptop, or ipad.

If it ran iOS, I'd get one....

It's included? That's cute.

AGAIN, who buys 50-100$ leather covers for their iPhones? Plenty of cheap, great protective case options. I got a great knock off case with great protection for my 4S on eBay for 10$. Does it's job superbly and keeps my 4S mint AND it looks good.

Leather is tacky anyways. Don't know why you're getting your rocks off about a leather backing on a tablet, I mean phone. No one is craving leather trim, it's not a couch or a car seat.

By the way, my roommate, who used to have an iPhone 4, switched to a Razr Maxx HD just last Spring and he absolutely hates the phone (slow, laggy, unresponsive, glitches up the ying yang) and is dying to get back to his iPhone. He might even sell it and just reactivate his 4, it's that bad.

That's exactly why I like the idea of using the Note 3 with the Galaxy Gear watch. You don't need to get out your phone when you don't want to. I'm not 100% if you can reply to texts as well as receiving them from your watch, but if you can, that is definitely one little touch that I would love.

I don't know guys, I look at this video and the Galaxy Note just seems so much more...modern.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrhJ5eqSAAE

ios is still basically just an app launcher. I'm just looking for some customization or I'm seriously considering a switch to andriod. ios is getting stale and looks old.

I spend about 99% of my time in apps on both Android and iOS, so it being an app launcher doesn't really matter IMO :p

Watched the video. Besides the S-pen, I don't see a difference in the user experience, compared to any other flagship Android phone. Modern? I guess it depends on what your idea of "modern" is. Comparing an iPhone to a Note is just a weird comparison anyways. It's a phone vs a phablet, completely different products for different consumers.

I don't understand why people say "I wish the iPhone was more customizable, and had a removable battery, and expandable memory, a huge screen." Or "If the iPhone had everything Android had, I'd get an iPhone!" The iPhone doesn't have what Android has, because it's not an Android.

It doesnt make any sense. So basically, you're saying you like the software better on the iPhone, or the quality? But you prefer Androids bells and whistles and removable battery? I have had my 4S for 2 years and have never had to remove the battery at any time, or expand the memory. Android fans love features that people don't usually care for, and that's great.

You have several choices, people. iOS, Android, Windows, BB. If you don't like iPhone, great. Get over it, move on to something else. We don't care about what you think the iPhone needs to be better for you. It's more than good enough for us.

When the first note came out I tried one and quickly returned it. Then I gave the note 2 more of a shot and I loved it. If you give it 2-3 weeks you'll get used to the size. It actually starts to look normal the more you use it.

The note is too big and consumers hate its size. iPhone 5S is the perfect size and it will outsell the Note 100000-1. Samesung are not innovative they are predictable and boring.

Do you work for Apple PR? :p

LOL. Right? I wonder how many apple employees come on here and try to boost apple up. Wonder how many posts Jobs made on MacRumors disguised as someone else. You know it happens.

LOL.

You think Steve Jobs himself had any interest/time to go onto internet forums and post, to boost his products? Please speak no more, you've proved yourself an idiot, more so than you already have.

I'm sure some people on here do work for Apple, which makes sense because this is an Apple forum.

You're digging yourself a hole.

It's a typo and you meant Apple right? Because the master of predictability and boring for the past 2 years has been Apple, without a doubt.

The note really is an impressive phone, and no, I dont think apple will post something so close in specs this iteration (5S), but we may be surprised.

The gear on the other hand is awful, too expensive for what it is, poor battery life, no on its own functions and limited cellphone compatibility. This was a bad move for Samsung, they tried to beat apple to the market, but it will cost them dearly once Apple announces its all around better watch.

Agreed. For the gear to work it needs to have a camera facing you and do video calls. Who cares about a camera on the wrist band. I will give them a good first attempt though.

Spec bump? I don't think so. From the leather trimmed back, on imporved on screen multi tasking, 13MP camera with image stabilizer and further integration of the S-Pen This is the first phone I have had to have since the original iPhone (Which is still available by the way, and will be introduced on September 10th as the iPhone5S) You know, Fits in your hand and all.

I wonder if the gimmicky 4K videos from Note 3 (theres nothing to play them on to speak of - yet) will play on my rMBP?

Hell the interchangeable (read replaceable) leather back option alone is a pure innovation, it means no need to buy someones plastic $50.00 case to keep it from getting scratched (or shattered)

If you own Apple stock, you should prey now that the iPhone 5S was a nasty diversion and they're really brining out the iPhone 7! (An iPhone 6 would have been outdated instantly too)

I can only hope the new Macbooks in October are masterpieces, I don't want to give up fanboy status yet.

Nothing about the III is innovative. A removable faux leather back plate isn't innovative. It's a removable back, nothing more.

S-Pen enhancements is nothing more than an enhancement to an existing item. Its like saying the 2014 Ford Focus is more innovative than the 2013 Ford Focus. How? Because it has a faux leather wrapped steering wheel?

Sounds like blindness from marketing...

That is why they made the S4 mini and the HTC one mini just for you.

Yep. I wish we iPhone users had such variety for phone sizes. Now they have a 5.7, 5, 4.7 and 4.3 inches to choose phones from.

We have 3.5 and 4 inch. Pathetic :(

----------

Thanks, but I carry a HTC One. And for me, I don't see the need for a larger phone.

The size of the HTC One is about perfect. Maybe the 5 inch such as the Galaxy S4.

Let's see what Apple can come up with for the iPhone 6 next year.

Apparently you did see the need for a larger phone that's why you got an htc one. Anything from 4.7 to 5" is perfect. Anything less than 6" to 5.5 is great for blind people like me. Anything over 6" is a tablet in my opinion. Anything under 4.7 is a joke and a 4" iphone is just comedy.
