At the time of this post, 70% of those who voted said they bought AppleCare. That seems to be a fairly standard breakdown. I expect that percentage to rise as the bend-videos make the rounds. It certainly helps scare more people into getting AppleCare. Those bending YouTubers should get a commission from the AC division. :)

As for why, when, or if to get AC: Examine your history. The more frequently you could have or did put in AC claims the more you should considering getting AC. For me, I've never bought AC for any of the dozen of Apple devices I've purchased and could never have use it, so I continue not to buy it.

Same here so if I do need to replace a unit due to a drop or what ever, I am still well ahead with the mney saved not buying AC+.

For those who are unlucky or a klutz and drop or damage their devices all the time, AC+ is for them!:p

I’m not unlucky or klutzy, but I have enough stress in my life without worrying about all the things the could go wrong with my ridiculously expensive devices. I pay to not have that stress. And yes, I know not everyone stresses about these things, but I do, so I pay to not.

Just on my iPhone. Generally I know through actuarial science that warranties are a scam. But the iPhone I use so much and it’s so easy to drop and I’m too vain to put it in an otter box so I get apple care haha.

I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't buy Apple Care. It's absolutely essential.
Obviously it’s not absolutely essential. People without butter fingers don’t need it.

Unfortunately if it breaks out of warranty through no fault of your own, you’re still stuck with the bill but whatever.

Don’t forget that AppleCare also extends your warranty. So if you have some kind of defect after the standard warranty period that isn’t due to an accident you’re also covered, nobody is immune to those. You may be able to argue warranty due to laws about how long you may expect a device to work but this is easier and a lot more pleasant.

I personally wouldn’t use the extended support as I’m tech savvy enough but for some this is also helpful.

It's an insurance policy that also extends the warranty period. I am generally risk-averse in my life and view AC+ like other insurance protection that I have. I am happy to pay the premiums and hope I never need to make a claim.

I guess it is good to buy if you are that stressed, but not me. I am calm and cool with more money in the pocket.

Just because you need it to relieve your stress, that does not mean I do.

That's exactly what insurance companies do to lure you into buying unnecessary insurance - prey on your anxiety and worry.

I bought it because I myself "tested" the vulnerability of the new iPad accidentally and it's good for me to have the right to exchange it a year later :p.

I typically don't for iPads, as I normally keep them home. For my new 12.9 Pro, I am using it at work every day, so I made sure to get AC+ for it. A lot more risk now that it's leaving home.

Ah, no. No one is preying on me. Don’t go assuming just because someone chooses to buy insurance that they’re a victim. I know what the deal is, my eyes are open. I made a choice.

Absolutely. Everyone needs to make their own choice. I would not presume to tell you what to do.

I did for my portable devices.

The thought of just heading to an Apple store, handing in your broken device, no questions asked gives me an ease of mind.

I belong to one of the many who made my first Apple Care purchase for this product, partly due to the fact I see the iPad as a device in use for a long long time. One question that I am wondering, for the "Up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling", does Apple insist that it has to be damage before it can be used? What if its something minor like a cosmetic scratch?

Minor cosmetic damage is hit or miss depending on who you interact with. I’ve only used AC once when I dropped my iPhone and broke the display. Though, I’ve read (here I believe) where people have essentially broken their Apple product intentially in order to receive service when their initial claim was denied when the damage was deemed only superficial.

My rule of thumb has always been to get insurance so long as it doesn’t cost more than 10% of the base product.

My daughter got ahold of my 10.5 and even though it had a tempered glass screen protector the screen still broke and it costed me $650 to replace my 10.5 through Apple. I learned my lesson and got it on my new 11" and 12.9". It literally costs $5.99 a month or $129 up front (11.99 a month for both of mine) to give yourself peace of mind. They are updating the pros around every 18 months, so it lasts through almost the entire time you have your iPad if you decide to sell when the newer ones come out. You still come out way ahead if you get the Apple Care + and have to replace it for $49. It feels good to know that if something happens this time around it will be a cheap fix.
Yeah, I did.

No way. Never have with any Apple products and that is over 90+ products for myself and my company. Your paying $129.00 for basically one year extended from your initial 1yr free warranty. Two years total isn’t that long of a warranty. You would be better looking into your homeowners policy and see what it covers. Homeowners covers the item indefinitely and will be cheaper in the end.

So you’ll ruin a beautiful device with a clunky piece crappy plastic instead of paying 6 bucks a month to use it as intended? Hahahahaha

I can’t use it as it was intended cause of a case?
Beauty?
Lmao

The defenders are bullet proof, a must with kids around the house

I have an protection plan through my provider but I’ve beeen thinking about buying Apple Care (or wishing i did) as i intend to keep this phone for a long time. Any idea if I can add AppleCare to a phone/iPad a few months after purchase ?

Of course, each to his or her own.

My wife and I have bought at least 4 iphones between us and least 4 ipads between us in the past, one imac, and yesterday an ipad pro.

Bought apple care for the imac, largely for the technical support as I am “mature” and an escapee from Windows. That made it a good decision, despite no other claims in the 3 years.

We have had no issues which would have prompted an AC claim, but one broken screen and one defective display on the same ipad, both after any AC period and replaced as “battery” failings for £95 and £85.

Considered carefully for the new Ipad Pro 11 256gb. But instead of AC for 2 years at £129, with excesses, bought from the UK’s John Lewis with 3 year warranty plus £75 for 3 years accidental damage cover with no excesses.

I didn’t

Seems waste of money to me

Too bad you can’t pay monthly here
