My theory was if it is crashing now, how annoying will it get when you don’t have the option to return it?

Exactly! The challenge will be them having one in stock when I go in to return it and replace it with a new one. My local store seems to have stock first thing each day, but of course it's gone by late afternoon.

I have no way of knowing if that particular app caused the issue or not. Since I'm not going to the Apple Store until Friday, I'm considering deleting that app and resetting the phone as new and just see how it performs the rest of the week before I can get there. If I have any problems between now and Friday, then I'll know it has to be replaced.

But do not think you’re escaping a lottery ordering from them. My first Pixel 2 was defective. Most of my friends on the Pixel portion of this forum endured at least one quality control related return and many endured MULTIPLE returns. My husband sent his back and never tried another one.

My experience with Google and their support is horrible. You won't have a store to return it to and swap it out unless you get it from Verizon. Their online and phone support is the worst. They have a great camera setup, but as far as Android OS and the platform overall.... meh at best!

Some freak out about being locked into Apple's ecosystem. I don't mind one single bit because ALL my stuff works together. There are going to be some bad phones here and there... it happens and Apple stands behind what they sell 100%.

But I think like you this person should get the Pixel3 and find out for themselves.... the grass just appears to be greener on the other side.... My experience says it too bitter to swallow!

Just looked at the Xs on display... and I’m a little disappointed — at the price. I just don’t feel the value is there at $1,000. I’m coming from a 6s, and I guess I thought I’d get more. It isn’t that it is a bad phone, just too expensive for what you get IMHO. A refurbished 7 might just do the trick for me. But I’ll wait until I get my hands on the Xr before I make a final decision.

The max screen keeps going yellow with true tone off
Well be sure to return it before your return period is up. Mine is white enough without True Tone on. As is my husband’s and the ones I saw at the store. OLEDs do vary. It’s not a fault per se, nor a failing peculiar to Apple’s quality control, but the current state of the technology. I’ve seen this with the Samsung phones as well. The S8+ marked the year Samsung refined the looks and characteristics of the OLED display but that was also the year pink staining made an appearance on their displays. Though I think some people reported seeing it before, though more rarely.

When I saw the S9 released I was impressed at how uniformly nice and improved the displays looked over the previous year when there was far more inconsistency. But it’s all far from uniform perfection. We’ve not yet reached that place with OLED

Random Note 9 owners are complaining about their screens, too.

I thought it rather a shame that Apple has abandoned use of the displays used in the 8 Plus phones just when it appears they reached the peak of consistency in high quality with that display. But the market clamored for OLED and Apple felt compelled to respond. I hope the XR displays aren’t a step back. Even with the lower ppi there may be other factors that make it a desirable choice for the display.

Coming from a 7 , I love my XS . The screen size is perfect and I love the camera .
Comparing to my 7 it's a bit heavy and thick but I'll get used to it ;-)))
The only thing that bugs me is the fact that there is no zoom effect for the lock screen anymore . It's only on the Max .

I would not consider going backwards to iPhone SE, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X and very much satisfied with XS Max

Disappointed? Almost! As was going to go for the Max until I tried my friends. Don’t get me wrong, the larger screen looks great. But for me the Max felt too cumbersome for one hand and my thumb had trouble reaching certain areas. Not to mention the thing was stretched in my jeans pocket. I’m satisfied with my choice to go with the regular Xs instead, as it fits very comfortably in my hand and sits better in the pocket. Yet has the same great camera and blazing chip (as Steve Jobs himself believed, phones should match the ergonomics of your hand. For me, the regular Xs does this the best! ;)).

Apple dropped the ball a bit last year by NOT introducing the Max sized device - forcing many who liked the X and settled to upgrade again to the max this year.

With all their Billions, they could have aimed for a Max last year.
"With all their billions?" That's definitely a big sense of entitlement you have there. It's right there, your jealousy is as big as day; "with all their billions", as if they should have done something more for YOU.

You've put so much into the X (either money or emotion over "having settled"), that your sense of "they owe me" has reached critical mass. I daresay that you will almost definitely not be happy no matter what. You might not even be happy with it if somebody gave it to you for free.

I sincerely suggest that you skip this cycle and wait for something you can really like. Maybe next year. Maybe in a few years. It's okay to skip it. :)

Oh, by the way, your avatar photo has a flat tire. ;)

Maybe it’s the Watch causing the issues? Sounds like that could be a common denominator.
I got the same model, not issues. I did notice the podcast app tripped out coming from restore: I tried tomlisten as it was still downloading. And it was getting stuck on downloading podcasts no longer available in the podcast store. This caused one crash, and my deletes and pauses weren’t recognized. But once all were downloaded no more issues.

That makes sense. Even though it shouldn’t happen, there should be a more graceful way to deal with that.

The iPhone Xs, not a total disappointment, but I really hope they introduced some more features other than the just basically some tweaks and adding an eSIM. I almost bought an Xs Max in China, only did I realize that the Chinese model even though have the real dual-SIM solution has FaceTime Audio disabled (there is no way to enable it) and I use FaceTime Audio almost exclusively to contact many of my family when they are abroad.

In terms of features, I really wish Apple put in some sort of in-screen fingerprint reader. Sometimes I'm wearing shades that hide my eyes, it's annoying to use FaceID. I guess Apple did double-down on their FaceID and that's what we should expect in the future, but being a $1000-$1500 phone this is a bit disappointing.

I smashed my iPhone X, so recently I've been using a Huawei Mate RS, which is not exactly perfect has just about everything but the kitchen sink. In-screen and back fingerprint reader, face unlock, dual SIM, OLED display, 4000 mAH battery, it's really fast and well featured, makes me wonder if Apple has become a bit stagnant. I do have to say iOS has really become something, but the hardware seems a bit behind.

That all said I did buy the iPhone Xs, was suppose to be delivered on Friday, but UPS says it did not get loaded on the plane or something due to customs…

What about buying it in Hong Kong? That shouldn’t have the FaceTime audio disabled...

What make shades are you wearing that is causing the issue?

I have ballistic polarised Oakley and Revision sunglasses and neither cause any issue. The phone still recognises me with them on.

Do yours block IR as that will be the only reason I can think of that they cause an issue.

Upgraded from the X to the XS Max and it is just not worth it. The XS max is going back on Monday..... The screen size was amazing, but not worth the $1100 price tag compared to my current X. Guess I'll see what they release next year.

I feel the same TBH, the max is really nice no doubt about that but with an S9+ sitting in the draw at home I am struggling to get away from the price of the thing. Of course I knew the price before I purchased but at £1600+ including apple care, sitting here using the phone it just does not feel worth it.

I have an immaculate 256gb X on eBay that I know I am going to lose a bundle of money on when it sells and unless I am missing something there are no new features on the Xs/max other than the portrait slider thing so it is just that bigger screen. I’m on the fence though and procrastinating over what to do. The good thing with Apple I guess is that I can return it and then change my mind and go buy another one later on anyway!

It is not flat, they are just low-profile tyres.

Thanks for the advice!

You should probably return it, not much point to have an x, X’s max and an s9 sitting in a drawer.

S9 probably doesn’t have much value left in the second hand market so it would be pointless to sell. Those drop in value quite fast.

You won’t lose any value on the X’s max or very
Little on the x. Those would be the best to sell, to keep value.

Enjoy whatever device you decide to keep.
If you do decide to stick with iOS you should try iCloud service with it and get the full experience or what’s the point?

Personally after getting used to a faster Face ID, there is no going back to Touch ID for me and I’m loving the bigger screen louder speakers, and camera.

The max was purchased on the basis of selling the X so I never intended on keeping both (that would be totally crazy and I am only partially crazy!) I usually have an iPhone and Droid on the go and switch between them. iOS really would not have to change much for me to ditch android completely but it is not there yet. Given that there is only 1 iPhone a year I do wonder if I am just better off jumping on the upgrade program rather than buying these things outright every year.

You are right re the S9+ btw, they are like new cars with the amount that you lose as soon as you open the box!

Good upgrade and I'm not disappointed at all. All of the doom and gloom was just a bunch of whining. I'm not sure what people expected but this was a very good phone. This may not have been the phone to upgrade from last year but anything previous is a great deal.

The iphone xs, xs max ans xr were clearly not meant for people aho have x already. But if you have 8 or lower there are meaningful, changes and reasons for you to ditch touch ID.

And that is fine. Phones are meant to last lomger these days.

THIS!
even though i upgraded my X to an XS max anyway lol

Who is disappointed with all the new features of the iPhone Xr / Xs / Xs Max? Any of you thinking about waiting for next years iPhone or possibly trying out the new Samsung S10 in February 2019? Or how about even trying a Note 9 or another phone? I am currently on a 7plus and possibly considering keeping it for another year or so. Thoughts?

Your 7 plus should be fine. wait for 2019 iPhones...
the only reason i would upgrade is just camera but thats about it... in terms of useability, they are almost equal if you have to get my honest opinion i mean ios is so simple it doesn't suck or lag your entire phone [at least] so a10 shud function very well for 1-2+ years to come.

Just pay the monthly and upgrade yearly then. That is what I am doing now. Makes it easier.
worsto way to buy a sit costs more and you are stuck a sa prisoner; Always buy phoen sin one shot; save slowly over time (put a few dollars a week for it if cannot do it from a paycheck) and you ar efree and own it outright not renting or morgaging a fkn phone and paying extra taxes and whatnot every month.
[doublepost=1537846896][/doublepost]Shame on Apple for eliminating SE as it was their best phone ever; I tried X in January and immediately went back to SE which is greta X was slippery and annoying to use; Now they almost doubled up th eprices for similar phone as X thinking that sheep will come no matter what. I think many people are disappointed in this last iphones. I will simply wait until my SE breaks down and look for a phone that is not big like a brick and give them the money. I have very large hands btw and I prefer smaller phones because I do not like to carry a brick in my pocket or use two hands like a monkey and zombey. Will it be Sony or Google or someone else is to be seen but for now I;m not buying apple phones as they dont have idea how to design better phones anymore just huge bricks slippery and made of glass (which require constant cleaning) basically copying samsung phones; No imagination.

I wear a lot of those mirrored shades, seems those all block the FaceID from working properly.

The Max is what I wanted last year. I just love the bigger size again and the camera is a huge step, above the X. Plus this thing just flies and feels so stable. Love it. Audio is also a Lot louder.
