iOS 5 works fine on my 3GS, however it was pretty slow at first. A reboot fixed that.

I had no crash so far, every app I tried worked well, so I don't see why people should not update to iOS 5 ;)

I want to strongly advice against anyone considering to upgrade to OS5.0. The os is very unstable and you can be sure that your apps will have problems - even after updating.

Jumping the gun here a bit aren't you? Care to provide some concrete specifics if you are so sure that everyone will have problems? Why is it that my 3Gs has been even better since the upgrade and had ZERO issues. That's ZERO.

First I couldn't even start the app. Rebooted the phone - same result. Updated all apps and then I could start but at least for Skype and Msn they kicks me out of the app every now and then.
Unfortunately greedy Apple don't allow me to go back to the previous version without stealing all my purchased apps and data. If I want the apps back I have to purchase again they tell me!!!!
The data - just forget about it.

So it's Apple's responsibility to insure the thousands of developers out there do their due diligence at updating their apps when all are provided access to the upcoming software release? Interesting. What role do you see the developers of those apps have? What responsibility do they play in insuring their apps are current?

At this time DO NOT UPGRADE you iPhone until Apple has fixed a stable version and tested through the apps for compatibility with the new os.

Again, would you care to share details on how the core OS is unstable?

FWIW since we're talking about your expereinces, here's mine. I have 126 apps on both a 3Gs and 4s both running iOS5 and the only one that didn't work isn't related to the OS, the issue relates to the new camera. How do I know? I got an email back from the developer and they said they don't have a timeline on when their efforts will result in it being compatible.

When I was updating my iPod touch and it was still transferring all the apps all my 3rd party apps were crashing. Then when I got off the computer it was normal so don't assume before you say things.

ALSO UPDATE IF YOU HAVEN'T!!

Why would Internet melt down for only 21 million apple users updating their phone? In Europe at least we use gsm to phone. Tried to skype with the iPhone but was kicked out. Still internet is working (fine). Obvoiusly a more robust thing than iPhone os - but it has been around for a while too

you are insane!

Cool story, bro. I read somewhere on the interweb that the water is not safe to drink, either. Beware!

I always advise when moving from one major iOS version to another to restore their iPhone as a new device.

I also advise restoring as new to people who are having poor battery life issues too.

Overall, I'm pleased with iOS 5, its got some great new features and I for one am pleased I upgraded. Also, I have not had any apps that have not worked/worked correctly with iOS 5. I have a system monitoring app which is not the latest version of it, and it works perfectly too with iOS 5.

FB71,

If you do the setup as a new device thing, can you use the same name for your device as you did before, or do you need to chose a new one?

TIA.

No issues on my iPad 2 or my wife's 3GS, my iPhone 4 was being a bit finicky, but nothing that wasn't fixed by rebooting both the phone, computer, and after the update erasing my old backup, and re-backing up.

But yeah so far no problems, and I definately wouldn't hold off on updating you iPads. Tabbed browsing and split keyboard rock.

Being able to use your device while syncing, backing up is awesome as well.

I'm happy to hear you are able to report on the performance of my phone from wherever you are. Unfortunately, there seems to be something wrong with your diagnostics as my 3GS is running just fine on 5.0. :)

i wasnt having any issue until i read this thread. Now I am scared to even use my phone.

OH wait, like most people, its working just fine iOS5 without issue. No reset needed, no app reinstall needed, no data loss. Heck, even Skype works without a hitch.

Fail upgrade OS5 and loop to restore non stop!help

Hi,

Well, Probably part of the unlucky iPhone user for upgrade this new OS5.

Never have a problem before.

I did upgrade the OS5 but I got a message error 31??? Don't remember.

Now I Tune asked me to restore but nothing happened and I loop every time to this option to restore mode.

Can not use my iPhone.

I would like to downgrade to OS4 and try later but how I can do it.

For me, it's unstable. and it's not working. So I am business owner and I need device work. Apply **** up in this case. happy for others where it's work but I can read a lot of bugs so it's not perfect.

Any help here to restore to OS4?

thx
