COOL STORY BRO!

iOS 5 works completely fine for me. If you're having issues, do what Apple always tells you to do...RESTORE! If that doesn't work, most people say restore and set up as a new phone, not from a backup. I always set up as a new phone on every major iOS release, just to play it safe and I've never had a single issue.

I want to strongly advice against anyone considering to upgrade to OS5.0. The os is very unstable and you can be sure that your apps will have problems - even after updating. First I couldn't even start the app. Rebooted the phone - same result. Updated all apps and then I could start but at least for Skype and Msn they kicks me out of the app every now and then.
Unfortunately greedy Apple don't allow me to go back to the previous version without stealing all my purchased apps and data. If I want the apps back I have to purchase again they tell me!!!!
The data - just forget about it.

At this time DO NOT UPGRADE you iPhone until Apple has fixed a stable version and tested through the apps for compatibility with the new os.

My iPhone 4 handled it well and my new 4S is sailing on it.

iOS 5 has been great to me so far. My battery life has improved. At 6:30 I was at 100% charge. At 3:00 I was at above 80%!

Loving it!

Yea, GREEDY APPLE... I mean - they gave you the iOS for free. How greedy of them. We need to stand up against this tyranny.

Really? He's lucky. I paid for mine when I bought my 3GS with the expectation that the software would be updated - don't think it's too much to ask that they do update it considering it's so that they can continue to compete in the market that makes them money, AND that when they do update it that it works.

Although it would be silly to tell people not to update because there might be some people having some issues I would like to point out that I am having plenty of stability issues after updating my 3GS. So far I have had Safari refuse to run, I have reset settings with no change, my phone no longer connects to my car stereo and when I disconnect it Music, Podcasts, etc, will not play, among quite a bit of buggy stuff happening while actually updating it - this was a far from perfect and dreamy update. I'll try another restore when I get home, however perhaps a lot of people saying how perfect their update is will find plenty of bugs over the coming weeks, or simply don't use much more than Messages, Phone, and Facebook..

An obviously if you pay for something with iTunes, you can re-download the app at no charge - obviously the author of this thread just doesnt realise this..

what on earth are you talking about? iOS 5 works great. They've come a long way since the betas and I have no clue what your talking about buying apps again. they allow you to share your apps with as many devices as you want.

the ironic thing is that he was actually correct.

That user had been on this forum for a few years, so I got to know is post very well, the irony struck me when Apple announced the iPhone 4S and I recalled that user had been banned, but to be fair he was a troll.

i'm so happy no iphone release september even october, what i guess is correct , no iphone until 2012 or 2015 ....

ok all , and now let use iphone 4 the best iphone ever now , stop making reply or topic about new iphone

apple is stop making iphone , too many iphone now ,

3G/3GS/4

enough .....

He also predicted that Apple would not release a new iPhone in 2009 because the iPhone 3G was good enough, he made this claim the morning of WWDC '09

I upgraded my 3GS and had no issues (other than the first time I tried to upgrade when x million people were also trying to do it) - since then, no problems on the phone whatsoever. Worked like a charm - most of my apps actually ran smoother on iOS5 than iOS4. And I had no issues with music etc. either.

Maybe I was lucky. Anyway, best of luck sorting out your problems!

How do you know the percentages? On my device the percentage disappeared. It was there in version 4 - Just curious :)

It seems like it is the natural Apple way to first run the software update and then restore the device.
Unfortunately I found out the hard way I had to in order to get anything working.

----------

I think I know what the OP did. I did the same thing.

When you upgrade the OS, the apps take a long time to synch and transfer all the settings. The lock screen no longer shows a message that says its synching. There is now a small spinning wheel in the status bar. It may appear that your phone is finished, but it is still transferring all the apps.

The iTunes window will show apps synching. But if you just look at the phone it is very easy to assume that your phone is finished when in fact it is not. I made this same mistake and my apps would not open. They would flash for a sec and go back to the home screen.

iOS 5 has been great for me ( once I synced all my apps properly). It's fast, reliable and battery life even seems to be a bit better (was jail broken before)

At last someone that describes what happens when updating.
I don't have that many apps but it took ages with the spinning wheel and no useful information either on the phone itself or in iTunes about what was going on. Still som apps are not stable.

That was quoting the warning in the info box from Apple when I started the RESTORE

Thanks Bro for the warning. I decided since I wouldn't be able to upgrade my iPhone I should just resort back to my old Motorola flip phone. After getting it all back online I forgot just how nice it was to only have a phone. Now I have to drive all the way home to check my email, weather, news. It's so nice being so far away from being connected. This guy is such a GOD sent. You mean people should just stop picking on him.
