So it's on par with 4 year old KabyLake processors lol, luckily my order doesn't ship until December so I'll be able to watch the reviews that they are trying to hard to hide from the world and cancel my order before it's shipped.

Please read some threads here, and you will understand that history is in the making, not a disaster.

Ever read a take so bad that it literally gave you the sh*ts? Sure, it might have been the Taco Bell I had, but still, what an awful take.

Where are you getting this? It obliterates everything in the 10-15W space and goes toe-to-toe with current top-end 16" MBP while getting twice the battery life...

"Absolutely insane. Apple is way a head of the game. For anyone who doesn’t quite understand how amazing this is a lot of these chips are higher end desktop class processors with fans and cooling. The i7-7700k and Ruben 1700x cost about $300 for just the chip. You can get the new M1 chip in a fully functioning Mac mini for just $699 that performs just as well as some of these higher end desktop CPU all in a small fan-less body. I haven’t even gotten into how much more efficient the M1 is either. Now imagine what Apple can do when they implement this same technology in there full size Mac Pro with cooling... Insane."

Narrowly beating a 4 year old processor (not even a top of the line one from that time) is not "insane" lol. These benchmarks are pathetic compared to what was being advertised, I am very close to just cancelling the order and not even bothering to wait for these reviews since they so desperately don't want anyone reviewing it before we receive them.

I've read a lot but these recent benchmarks, paired with this bizarrely long-lasting embargo has me second guessing it. Hope I'm wrong

so you think they impose an extended embargo because if they suppress benchmark for a few days, they can extract a few extra units of sales, rather than flopping right from the onset?

like, for a product that has product cycle of 2-3 years or more, they know they have a terrible product, so they will salvage a few days of blind sales from it instead?

its not just the fact that you might be wrong....
....its how you come to such a conclusion that calls on your judgement and sanity.

If you don't get it yet, it might be easier if you just wait for the reviews. These points have been explained to death here already. You'll have plenty of time to catch up before you need to decide.
Great argument! So it doesn't just narrowly beat a 4 year old mid-range processor, I just have to read more.

You're not considering the whole picture here. That i7-7700K is a 90W chip. They 'narrowly beat' (actually a 20% improvement, not that narrow to me) a 4-year old 90W chip with a new 10W chip. They are using 1/9 the power to achieve 20 percent more performance. Imagine what Apple is going to do when they use 90W... Performance Per Watt (PPW) is the name of the game here. These are really impressive advancements, especially when you consider how stagnant the YoY advancements had been for the past decade.

You're comparing the performance of an integrated graphics chip to stand-alone graphics adapters. You dont see the inherent flaw in that?

first, pathetic lol.

second, ur wrong.

third, they beat the 11gen intel CPU and have the highest single core for a 15 watt enclosure.

heck the M1 destroys the base i7 16MBP in cinebench while consuming a LOT less power

Let me understand...you're comparing a 10-15W TDP mobile chip with a 91W TDP CPU? I see...
That's what everyone has been comparing them to when gushing over the benchmarks saying these are more powerful than every other computer out there. Are these products not supposed to be replacing computers? Should I compare them to phones instead?

Yes, but why buy 3 different models for personal use? Makes no sense.
You’d just buy the one you actually need, wouldn’t you?
if reviewing tech things is your job, i.e. you derive significant income from it, buying laptops can reasonably and rightly be deducted as a business expense. so you could "afford" to buy 3 and not scrutinize every dollar.

Single core does not matter much, by that logic an i9 iMac is a better computer than a spec'd out Mac Pro

No. You should compare laptop CPUs with laptop CPUs. Not with $350 desktop CPUs. It's a different category. It's like complaining that this year's Dacia Sandero is slower than a 4 year old "insert-your-favorite-sports-car-here"
