Always. Learned my lesson the hard way. Example, Apple doesn’t repair iPad Pro screens. The 12.9 is $600 to buy a replacement unit. Or free/$49 with AC+. Took me accidentally scratching a 12.9 screen to learn my lesson.

Yikes. i think that’s why I always get it. Peace of mind, it’s there if you need it and if you do have an accident, it’s not gonna cost an arm and a leg.

My 1st gen 11 pro started having issues with ghost touch. Got an express replacement and had a replacement in my hands 2 days after reporting the problem. this happened with about 2 months left on my 2 year applecare plan

for me, it’s worth the cost.

Does it also cover the totally overpriced Smart Folio? I have only had bad experience with original Apple Accessoires in the past ...
Yes it does - that is why I got the folio touch from Logitech for my iPad Air. The Smart keyboard became unresponsive after awhile.

I get AppleCare for my phones but not my iPads. For me, I use my phone out and about all the time and have dropped it more than I’d like to admit. Have been lucky it’s only resulted in a new case or screen protector needed.

I use my iPad at home or sitting down - less likely to be dropped. So I don’t get the AppleCare on it.

One advantage of Apple Care + with the iPad Pro or iPad Air 4 is if you purchase the MK and Pencil 2 It also covers them under the same plan, no additional charge.

So yes I got Apple Care + and I got the MK and Pencil 2 as well, figured 3 items it was worth it for the cost of the pencil alone.
Unless you never use it. Then you're just out all the money. The best option is to self insure. If you need discipline to actually save the money, take the $200 or whatever and put it into a savings account every time you buy a device. If something ever breaks, use your insurance fund to pay for it. Otherwise, keep your own premiums. #winning

I buy AppleCare+ on everything. Kind of a waste in my case though as I’ve only had to use once. And that was on a time capsule purchased with my MacBook Pro.

I usually do not get AC for my MacBook Pro and iPad since they primarily stay at home (Apple Watch and iPhone I always purchase AC). But last year when I purchased the Air 3, I decided to get AC as well. Thankfully I did since I dropped my iPad while on vacation and cracked the screen. $49 later, I received a replacement iPad from Apple.

Well, $49 plus the cost of the insurance plan.

The thing about value propositions is they don't necessarily apply to all situations.

One may never purchase coverage and never see product defects surface after standard warranty expires or suffer accidental damage so their decision not to purchase coverage is surely justified. It's just up to the individual whether or not they believe they'll find value in getting the coverage.

I purchase AC on select devices depending upon how I feel about potential replacement costs and risk of needing replacement. Sometimes I'll even parlay the savings I get from buying Apple certified refurbished into AC coverage.

I could never have imagined that I'd have to replace a gen 2 12.9 due to a touch screen defect but I'm glad I had AC+ for it, and I'm happy Apple extended AC+ coverage via monthly plan for it because my replacement 12.9 started exhibiting the same touch screen issues a few months ago. In other cases my AC purchases ended up being total wastes.

In the grand scheme of things though I'm currently ahead. Had I done the self insured thing that has been suggested earlier I would be behind. Everyone's mileage varies.

Yep. I got AC+ for my Air 3 because of the potential white spot issue. I'm keeping it even after I upgrade to use with abandoned apps so I'm glad I could put it on the $3.49/month AC+.

The house always wins in the end. They only offer insurance because it's profitable. That mileage does not vary. You may come out "ahead" in a small sample size but as the sample gets larger, you will not.

If it came off as me lobbying for the purchase of coverage outright for every purchase that isn’t my intent. I wholeheartedly agree that these coverages exist to provide revenue to those providing them. The fact that “the house” always wins doesn’t matter to me as an individual as much as weighing whether or not I will get value from coverage purchase for the specific device given its anticipated usage and associated costs. I have no doubt that if I were to have purchased coverage for the majority of the mobile devices I have owned I would be in the hole right now, but my experience is enough to tell me that I shouldn’t be advocating for a wholesale boycott of coverage for everyone, small sample size or not.

Purchased it on monthly payment plan. Piece of mind if anything is to stop working or I damage it accidentally. Use the Ipad daily at home and work. Works out cheaper to pay for AC either way.

True, AC+ is likely 99% profit for Apple. Logically, I know I'd save more money self-insuring and really, I already set aside $200 per paycheck for hobbies and entertainment expenses anyway (which includes tech).

That said, I'd absolutely, absolutely, absolutely hate being forced to buy a new replacement device or pay for the full OOW repair cost, say, just 1-2 months before the release of a new model. It's easier to stomach $3.49-5.99/mo for AC+ than warranty or replacement cost of $500-1800 when I don't like the devices currently available.

You are saying that Apple replaced your iPad with the only issue being a scratched screen? There seem to be differing opinions here on whether or not that would be sufficient damage (and not considered normal wear and tear) to justify a replacement under AppleCare +.

Great advice (for those who are disciplined enough to actually do it). I've thought of doing this myself, many times (but never actually implemented it).

My situation is this - I have a new 11" iPad Pro, plus the magic keyboard and pencil. My questions are these:

- if I purchase AppleCare plus for my iPad, will it also cover the keyboard and pencil or do those need to be covered by their own plans

- the time duration is not very transparent, at least as far as I can easily determine. What is the duration of the warranty that comes with the iPad (12 months?). Then, if I add AppleCare +, does that add 24 months on top of the 12 months, for a total of 36 months? And finally, do I have the ability to extend the AppleCare + when it expires? What will that resultant coverage be - 12 mo + 24 mo + additional 12 or 24 mo??

I get AppleCare+ on all my Apple products. Why not!
The cost? I've never had to use AppleCare in the past, although I will probably get it for my teenagers next phone. I flipped the bill for the first cracked screen, 2nd she'll need to make some $$ to fix it.

I did get it for my IPP because the MK case seems like it will fail at some point. It covers the MK, IPP, and the pencil. So not too bad.

When AppleCare is nearly 25% of my M1 Air, no thanks. The battery will be fine for 3-4 years and a hardshell case for when I am mobile is a better investment.

I was able to get AppleCare_ for my M1 MBA for $199 at BestBuy when I made the purchase. I thought saving $50 was a good deal. I would have bought it if I hadn't gotten the deal given this is a first gen chip for Apple.

Like you, I also got AC+ for my iPad Pro, so that the Magic Keyboard and pencil would be covered.

I always get apple care+ even though I’m not really clumsy or anything but I do live with young children and it helps me with peace of mind!
