Thanks for the informative reply. Since a lot of heat dissipates from the bottom of, let's say, a MacBook Pro, a stand like this would hurt it:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834996172

Since there's no breathing at the bottom.

Instead, i'm considering something like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834999017

would that be good?
I think the icurve is different from the first one you mentioned.. there are two pole to support the macbook, instead a whole piece at the bottom..

However, I think a cooling pad with fan is much better.. since it increases airflow.. on the other hand, icurve looks better.. but not as efficient...

I will take a picture and post it when I get home. I think the 20" ACD looks smaller due to the angle the picture was taken at.

kdum8 -

Yes, if I open the MBP it will run in dual monitor mode. The cursor will move back and forth between the two screens.

is this osmething the macbook can do too or is it only for the MBP? sorry if the question sounds stupid

tejota1911, can you post a side-by-side pic of the MBP screen next to the 20" screen. Maybe it's the perspective, but the screen looks smaller than I thought it would next to the 15".

Here's the pictures you requested.

tejota1911, nice wallpaper :)
Is it a porsche 911 gt3?? Thats one of my dream car :D

Its cool that it can use different wallpaper on each screen...

I'm so jealous!

Your workstations are so clean! Mine is a tangle of wires like a birdnest. 30", 23", 20" with 2 MBPs, iBook, & 1 DP G5. Hooked up to 2 firewire hubs, 2 USB hubs, 6 external HDs, 3 printers, 3 scanners, and other accessories. Not to mention the paperwork, miniDV tapes, DVDs, pens, markers, reference materials...

That said...
Wired has been more reliable for us. Except for wireless internet connection & server.

What I would give to have such a clean setup!

The car is a Rinspeed 997 LeMans.

Not only can I have different wallpaper on each monitor, when put the MBP into clamshell mode, the ACD changes to a totally different wallpaper, as well as, to the primary monitor.

Here's my setup:

24" Dell LCD, 15.4" Core2 MBP dual-monitor through DVI, HP Company-Laptop (I would never buy an HP) through VGA, XBOX360 through component, wireless keyboard and mouse. Oh, and if you look closely, an eyetv hybrid on top of the 360, and an airport extreme to the right ;P

not the cleanest setup, but it gets the job done.

I know what yu can do to make it lookless crowded, get rid of some hardware, and me being the generous guy that i am i will make the huge sacrifice of taking some of the stuff you got, you know just to give you a hand....lol:D

Basically, I'd like to know if the 15" MBP display a full resolution on my 22"...

I currently have an external lcd monitor (dell e228wfp) that is 22" widescreen and has a 1680 x 1050 native resolution. When I plug it into my iMac G5 (PPC), I get an image like this:

If i plan to use the external display when plugged into the MacBook Pro, I would like to have it like this:

However, i'm interested in the 15" macbook pro. Its native resolution is 1440 x 900. Is that its max resolution? According to the specifications, it shows the following resolutions:

Apple Store Specs... said:
Supported resolutions: 1440 by 900 (native), 1280 by 800, 1152 by 720, 1024 by 640, and 800 by 500 at 16:10 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 at 4:3 aspect ratio; 1024 by 768, 800 by 600, and 640 by 480 at 4:3 aspect ratio stretched; 720 by 480 at 3:2 aspect ratio, 720 by 480 at 3:2 aspect ratio stretched

...would this mean I'd have to purchase the 17-inch Mac Book Pro instead , since its native resolution is 1680 x 1050 instead of the compared 15-in MacBook Pro with the native resolution at 1440 x 900, if I wanted the full resolution (like pictured)?

Thanks so much for your time. I understand I may be confusing, so please do let me know if you'd like for me to rephrase everything. I appreciate your time.

You should take a look at the tech spec in apple's website.

It is written:
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors

So you will have no problem using your 22" widescreen for 15" mbp, since both 15" and 17" support up to 2560x1600..

The resolution you mentioned is the max resolution on the lcd on the mbp :)

The iMac G5 doesn't support external monitors as well as the newer intel models without some soft modification.

I had this problem with my iBook as well and the first thing i did was google it.

G5 screen spanning.

Amazingly this simple search turned up what i needed.

Screen Spanning Doctor

As for the MacBook Pro. It will work fine as all Pro models have.

It's a tad... unergonomic... you should put the laptop where the 24" is and the 24" right in front of you.

Thanks for the straight-forward informative reply! My questions are finally solved. I'm smiling! :)

Interesting, is spanning using two lcds into one big one?

Well, thanks to this thread, I am now dual monitored up.

Still trying to figure out "clamshell mode", when I woke up today I opened the top on the mbp, and only the dell screen woke up, and it moved the dock over to the dell screen. I had to go into "displays" and ask it to "discover" displays to get the MBP main screen up. Guess its just going to take some practise.

Any advice on a bluetooth keyboard?

Thanks all!

Clamshell mode means keeping the laptop closed, not open, while using it.
