I think it looks weird, if the back is white i think the front should have been white too, the black front white back combo just doesnt look right to me, ill prolly get the black

I'm going to wait to see them in the store before I make my final decision. At first I was sure I was going to get black, but now I think I might be changing my mind. I always did like my white iPods, and I remember when I got the touch that I wished they had them in white. Hmm...
I'll take the one that's fully transparent. I want to be able to see all the way through it. Like a window

White/Black iPhone
So over in the UK/London when the ipods were new (a while back i know), it was known if you had white headphones you'd be mugged for your ipod! I always changed my headphones to black. I now see the new iPhone been the same, walking along the street on your white iPhone you may as well have a big neon sign saying "Mug ME!".
Having said that, my first thought on June the 9th was for the white one......

Black negatives:
-see all the grease and sweat smudges from your fingers; scratches show up more vividly.
Black positives:
-you won't really see scuff marks (like shoes leave on a floor for example)
White negatives:
-all scuff marks will show up; phone will most likely stain moderately from constant holding/touching and the salt in your sweat.
White positives:
-you probably won't really see scratches that much, they should blend in; smudges won't show.
Conclusion:
Once you go black, you may never go back....but white is always right. The white 3G should be a wise choice if you're going to go w/out a case and want to avoid the little damages to the back of your phone from showing themselves to the world. I fear the black will just start to look all messy when you have visible smudges on the front glass AND on the black plastic back.

Sounds like a pretty good diagnosis to me. I'm going for black and am not using a case of any sort.

as for me, I am torn as always and it's an impossible decision. Black makes the ring stand out better, but might just emphasize its scratches more as it ages. White is more likely to invoke envy from passers by--which I am not personally interested in. Black matches all my gear so far: watche, pen, belt, shoes all black and silver...except the watch does have a white face...
I do kinda feel like the white one initially impressed me, and I definitely like having the choice, but white is the color of fun, new things--whereas black is good everyday. I'll probably go black...I am glad for the record though that apple is moving away from monochromatic devices-like the new imacs with silver and black components--it makes them look more striking when there's a color contrast...dammit now I want the white one again!

I don't think white really matters anyways - I think those buyers will end up putting a pink or pastel colored skin on it anyways...

Not sure about the whole masculine vs. feminine paradigm, but they are both ugly in my opinion. Bring back the Al!

No... What would be cool, is one that was completely clear. Clear case, clear internal components, clear everything. Make the entire thing more transparent than clear glass.
Even better, they could make it clearer than air itself.
Then, you could walk around talking, with it up by your head, and everyone would think you were talking into your wrist and listening through your finger tips.
They could call it the "iPhone Air"
