I used my 13 Pro for 3 years caseless—honestly I wouldn’t do it again.

The screen was supremely scratched by the time I upgraded to the 16PM, and the stainless steel frame had a lot of nicks on it, especially on the corners.

Sure, if you’re super diligent and never set the phone down anywhere without wiping the surface down first, you’ll probably fare better—but I travel, I like the beach, and I don’t like treating things like they’re overly precious.

My 16PM is in the Apple Silicone case which I really like, and though I still don’t use a screen protector, the lip when placing the screen facedown has been beneficial.
Hate cases. Since I have owned the 15PM not a scratch with many drops even on concrete. Believe it’s due to the titanium being more durable and less prone to scratches than steel and far better than aluminum which I pray they don’t go back to. Do use a case when vacationing as I don’t want to hand my phone to anyone else without a case on it. Although, I dropped mine once by setting it on top with of the car and it slid off onto the ground without a scratch. They have really gotten better over time. It sort of goes against Tim’s ethos of more money!

I've owned iphones since 2007. From 2007 until iPhone X, I never used cases and I never had problems with dropping them and shattering my screen. Then I dropped my iPhone X and the whole screen shattered. It cost me an arm and a leg to replace it. Ever since, I've been using cases. They've saved my a** multiple times. I love the feeling of a naked iphone but these things are so expensive you gotta protect your investment.
AppleCare+. No case as the AC+ is the insurance. Bargain with theft and loss. Literally anything can happen and get a new iPhone.

I used to always use my iPhone caseless until the 6 came out. I even switched to a SE(2016) for a couple years because I couldn't handle my phone always slipping off the couch or off my lap, out of my pocket, even out of my hand on some occasions, etc. I compromised and got a Peel MagSafe thin case for my old 12 mini and currently use one on my 14 Pro (when im not using my bulky Clicks keyboard case, anyway).

Other than what I wrote above, I've never dropped any of my iPhones, never had any cracks or dents. A few scruffs here and there though. I don’t use it so much for protection, it's mainly so I can hold it a little easier.

I regularly go between case and caseless, even regularly changing mid-day.

After a year and a few months my 15 Pro had some small nicks on the frame in the top and bottom left corners, from where I dropped it down the stairs one day. The back glass did get a visible (but surface level) scratch across the Apple logo. I haven’t used screen protectors in about a decade, and my screen looked fine. A few hairline scratches and one small one you could feel but was almost impossible to see.

When I went to trade my phone in, I received the full value, so it was all within normal wear and tear.
Full value with used condition, that’s really good. Where did you trade it in, Apple themselves?

I took my old 6 for a 15 min walk around the block before the case arrived. Took it out of me pocket and instantly found out how slippery it is, bounced if off the top of my shoe to break its fall but still had to replace the display. I do like how slim it is though, so for formal events I pop my sim back in it, and a wide strip of industrial double stick tape gives enough grip to not slip without adding any bulk, so it isn't as obtrusive as the new phone while out & about.

!,
Always caseless. Cases are for people who break their phones. Correlation or causation; no one can be sure.

to answer the question:
The experience of using the phone is excellent, especially in terms of its design and slim profile. These phones are specifically crafted to be used without cases, with significant attention given to the material science behind the metal casing. The build quality reflects this thoughtful engineering.

However, the downside of not using a case is that it tends to draw a lot of attention. If you prefer to avoid that, it might be a consideration. It sounds exaggerated, but I get asked often (with surprise) why my phone doesn’t have a case!
I am also asked (more times than I thought).

"It's very expensive"

"As you fall, you're going to regret it."

"Aren't you afraid to wear it without a cover?"

I'm a careful person, but I've ever fallen and it's okay (luckily, obviously). But I think like you, I love feeling the materials of the device. My partner has his iPhone 15 Pro Max with case and screen protector and has never dropped a phone, but he is afraid that he may drop...

Nooo. Going case less wouldn't work for me, I drop my iPhone 16 Pro Max far too often, it just wouldn't survive intact. I have kids too and I am sure any parent out there would relate that you simply couldn't trust them not to break things.

White iPhone 11. Case on for the first year, and caseless for the last four. I think it's a lovely looking phone.

Not a mark on it, and I've dropped it (onto a wooden floor at home) once or twice. When I'm out and it's in my pocket, nothing else goes into that pocket which could scratch it.

I went caseless with my iPhone 4s, 5s, 6S+ and 8+, but eventually went with one for my 13 pro max.

I will say that I still enjoy the feeling of a naked iPhone in my hand, with it at its thinness and lightest. However, you need to be prepared that it won’t have much of a resale value when it’s time to upgrade, and it will invariably pick up nicks and scratches no matter how careful you are with it (especially around the camera bump area). The first scratch is always the most heart-wrenching but after that, you don’t really care about it anymore.

With my 13 pro max, I wasn’t so much concerned about preserving its resale value as I was concerned that the phone didn’t feel all that comfortable in my hand. Something about the flat square edges which cut into my palm that I didn’t experience with older iPhones and their curved edges.

I tried many times to adjust to wearing a case but it always fails, from my first smartphone to my current iphone15 pro I just like the feel of a cashless iPhone so much more than a bumpy case that's no good holding and makes it so much bigger even if I use a thin case. I enjoy the build quality of the iPhone too much to wear a case. I try to be careful with my phone and I somewhat succeeds, my phone does fall down on a rare occasion but not often and I've never cracked a phone (knock on wood!). I also think I would be less carefull with a case on, subconsciously of course.
No case, no screen protector or anything like it. My phones is always in good condition when I sell them when I buy a new one and no-one ever complained about scratches or marks on them.

Many people have gone caseless, but in the end it is not about them, it is about your particular iPhone use habits and tolerance to visual imperfections. People who are on yearly upgrade programmes probably care less, people who hold on to their devices for longer and pass them on or sell afterwards are probably more protective.

I'm thinking about going caseless and even tried it for a few days and the phone felt way lighter in my pocket.

Since ever I owned smartphones even Flagship Android phones, never ever dropped any phones.

And even when I text someone I never use one handed texting as I hold the phone with only two hands.

I will run a trial period without a case until the Ringke Onyx arrives which I decided to go order.
Nobody ever drops them. Until they do!

I saw someone with a 16 Pro on the train the other day. The corner of the screen was cracked and there was bits of hair stuck in the crack and corner. Don't let that be you 😀

I have kids so spigen armour case for me, just not worth the risk even through the phone does look better without.

Those cases are damn good. I have travelled all over the world with those (and 13 pro + 15 pro) and my phone would have been smashed to crap without them.

Cases serve two functions for me:

1. It protects the phone
2. It prevents the phone from slipping from my hand

I have found point nr 2 is the more noticeable in every day life. Naked iPhones are slippery sobs

I'm not a fan of going caseless, as AppleCare+ isn't going to cover scratches and cosmetic damage and the iPhones are not grippy. However, if you must then do a hybrid option...go caseless only when in less risky environments (e.g., at Home, at the office, in a hotel room, friend's home, etc)...then put the case on when there's more risk (e.g., on the go, traveling, playing sports, at events, theme parks, weddings, night on the town, etc).

Full value with used condition, that’s really good. Where did you trade it in, Apple themselves?
Yep, at the Apple Store.

As long as it’s not egregious damage, like giant dents or deep heavy scratches, they’re fine with normal W&T. If you do in person a lot of times they employees will try to “hide” any marks when they take pics to scan it too.

I think if I had the natural or white titanium, I might risk it—but with black, I don’t think I will tbh.

My Sierra Blue 13 Pro did a good job keeping the scuffs not as glaringly obvious

Every iPhone from the original iPhone 2G to the 16 Pro.... never ever ever a case. Dropped an iPhone 4 once, otherwise never have dropped an iPhone and never have used a case. It's a luxury beautifully designed phone. It would be equivalent to putting a cover around a nice luxury car... no thanks. Just get AC+ if it's concerning ! Happy Holidays everybody!
