I have a cheap low end camcorder.
I know. I say that without judgment, but you seemed to imply that tizeye's mirrorless setup shooting video wasn't relevant.

I know you that you love your powershot (yay!) and that you seem to like your camcorder (also yay!). But some of us prefer buying just one device that does both functions. If you had pooled your funds for your camera and camcorder together, you probably would have found a higher end device with better quality and that would work for both purposes.

The next time you are in the market, ask questions before buying, rather than after. ?

I've found that it's possible to get decent stills captured from 1080p video -- IF the video itself is "clean and in focus"...

I am perfectly satisfied with my camcorder and Powershot. FULL HD is perfectly fine for me. Powershot can shoot in 4K but I have it on standard HD anyways.

I just hope camcorder does not break anytime soon. Have had it for 3 years.

Buy cheap, buy twice.
So true. My 5 y/o grandson is now the proud owner of a cheap P&S that wife wanted. I am actually impressed with some of the photos he has taken.
That’s a still camera. Do you have a camcorder?
Now that I think of it, Yes I have a camcorder and I forgot to mention it. I also have a VCR player stored away in the attic for playback if that gives me extra brownie points. :D (This has to be the photo of the day! Need to charge the battery and go on a shoot in a public area. )

Ancient model. Do you have a modern hi end model that costs like a thousand?

Was just looking at a nice Canon model for that price on Amazon. Wish I could afford it.

Your sig says you have an iPhone 12. That will record some amazing 4K video. I suspect better than your 1080p standalone.

For $750 you can buy a refurbished Nikon Z50 + lens kit that will blow Mr. Powershot and your camcorder out of the water with quality. I'm sure you could find similar deals on a Sony or Canon setup, but I'm not familiar with the current models of those brands.

Also, if you have a local camera store near you, you might be able to work a trade in with your existing gear and put the value toward something used.

yes...but he mentioned looking at new camcorders....which indicates that maybe he isn't.

plus, other people read these threads too, so even if he doesn't care, someone else might, even if they don't post.
I can’t afford the thousand dollar Canon model I was looking at or else I would buy it.

Personally I hate small camcorders like that, They are a pain to hold. I'd rather have something over the shoulder, but then the prices go up well over $5000.

I know zero about video. Why would someone choose something like this when they could buy a mirrorless camera and some lenses and get a more cinematic feel? You might have to buy a small rig or something for ergonomics, but wouldn't the overall quality be better from a full frame mirrorless camera?
If I was doing true video, I would spend for a Digital mirrorless film camera.
I might for for an ARRI or Red, or even a BlackMagic.
