I have deleted all my iCloud Photos and just started using google photos as I can use it cross platform.

I am now using spark for email and will see how that goes.

Transferring all my notes to google keep as I am thinking that I need stuff that is cross platform.

I have plenty of other problems with my phone and iOS 18. I have been on the phone with higher lever apple support as I do have AppleCare and they can’t find anything wrong.

Find my is all over the place and doesn’t report location to my wife accurately, we use this for emergency medical reasons.
Me too! Thousands of photos. I got a Flickr pro account and copied everything to there for safe keeping. I am looking for the simplicity that Mac once provided. It's becoming overly complex and function (feature?) bloated. I left Windoz as I was spending more time tweaking the OS and reinstalling wonky code than I was working. If you're a child (or in your mind) and all you do is play on a computer most of the day, then that is great. But I spent a career as a computer programmer (unix, ubuntu, Windows, IBM Z/OS, system programmer and database analyst. So I have some street creds. Be well and peace be with you all. This is a first world thing, no need to get mean.

Thing with this is, it wont stay selected on my iPad. No issue on my iPhone, but whenever I zoom in on my iPad, once I close and go back in to photos it defaults back to the original zoomed out and more photos which I find cluttered (aspect ratio works as it should btw).

Update: I’ve sorted this. On my iPad it has to be zoomed in to max and it remains each time I open up the app 3 photos in a row, same as my iPhone. Declutters and liking it so far 👍🏻

I don’t think that AI is the problem (I’m not using it), it’s really that they screwed up something with searching for locations. And, yes, it does look for text in the photos rather than the location itself.
And, leaving it plugged in over WiFi does nothing as I have been doing this for weeks with no change.
Apple took a great search tool and fubared it.
Ugh, yes, it does appear this is the case... Searching for locations just generally screwed up badly. I have to think a lot of users with large photo libraries use this type of searching frequently... Hopefully this is a high priority for Apple to fix!

has anyone found a fix for no photos available in the photos widget? still not fixed for me in iOS 18.2.1
ill try resyncing my photos again

I spent quite a bit of time captioning my thousands of photos. I had quite a few that were in black-and-white and so on the captioning, I added the notation.” B&W” so that I could search them. But apparently search no longer searches for notations in captioning. I know that I can make an album of just black and white pictures, they are usually a family members long gone. But I have thousands of them and I’d have to go through my photos in order to select them out. Search used to also have a separate place for what was in captioning. I guess I just wasted my time since you can’t search that way anymore.

Now that you mention it, I've tagged a bunch of photos as well, and I've Favorited them. I'm no longer seeing photos when I search for those added keywords. Pretty lame!

did a clean install of iOS 18.2.1 and photos app still doesnt populate memories, trips, wallpaper suggestions after being plugged in overnight

Apple really looked at the way people liked to organize their photos and said "Nah. Our way."

Well, I sent a note to the feedback area. Honestly, what was the point in the captioning when you can’t search that way anymore. I wish I could go back to iPadOS 17 because my photos are just about the most important thing on my iPad.

i got a response back from apple support that it is a known issue with memories, trips, featured photos, suggested wallpapers showing not available in iOS 18.2.1 and it will be fixed in a upcoming software update

18.3 maybe?

Apple does nothing but lie. They told me the other day “no reported issues with Apple Devices” and “maybe it’s your computer” but how many people have to report here that it’s bricking iPhones before they believe the victims?

Unpopular opinion but I do prefer the new over the old. It looks cleaner, and you don't have placeholder ribbons wasting space interfering while scrolling through thumbnails. Personally for me the old one does look dated like it certainly doesn't belong in 2025 anymore

Unpopular opinion, I know, but I like the new Photos app. It's fine. It's much better since I turned on Aspect Ratio View in View Options - without it it's hard to distinguish between photos.
Oh this is fantastic. Thank you!

Upgraded to iOS 18.3 RC and still no memories, featured photos, trips, suggested wallpapers
I give up and its not gonna get fixed

I found View Options finally after tapping on my user icon top right. But no Aspect Ratio View option. UPDATE: found it. There is another View Options after tapping the up/down arrows icon along the bottom. Yes, much better. I had no idea all these settings were available. Half the problem might be how unintuitive the options are.

I’m down to aspect ratio view, zoomed in photos.
Utilities and under that pinned collections (Albums,Gifs, Trips, memories, featured, selfies) Much cleaner, less cluttered and I prepare it now to IOS 17 photos!

I didn't realise it was changing but when I upgraded and opened it my first thought was "oh thank god, this is SO much better!" I rearranged some stuff and have been loving it ever since. Genuinely I was shocked when I first started seeing how much negativity there was. Although to be fair, this has happened with every single Mac OS and iOS change in history...people are super resistant to change regardless of whether it is good or bad for them. Nobody wants to relearn how to use the thing they use every day.

How many photos? iClouded them? Because then it should be done up there, while you sleep, then synced.

over 6,000 photos, dont use icloud for them and have had the device charged over night
it worked before 18.2 and has been broken since :( shouldnt have done a clean install

i am almost missing create a memory option in my photos app
i checked with a family member and they have this
same exact phone and iOS version

they also have memories, trips, suggested wallpaper, featured photos so really dont know what is going on with my devices

After a few months of use, here’s my second opinion: yes, I still like it… in the iPhone. But on the iPad, I think a different interface would be more useful.
