Does anybody actually LIKE the new iOS 18 Photos app? [MERGED]

still broken for me in the iOS 18.3 release and 18.4 is not rumored to launch till april :(

photos app not populating people & pets, memories, trips, featured photos, etc.

This is excessive nannying in my view. Clearly Apple Intelligence is scanning the photo for nudity and instead of just letting me edit the photo, has determined that it needs censoring. This is a big over-reach of censorship. I'm a grown adult and can decide for myself what is and isn't appropriate for me to look at.

Is this true? This is shocking.

I can't take anymore nude pics with latest iPhone?

I can't test it because Apple Intelligence not yet available in Europe
 
The video editing via cropping is a function we needed in 2017!
The UI is cleaner and the features are an improvement like that today one on the lower part of the screen.
I might make albums accessible via icloud, the photos of my pinarello banesto road bike from 1992
Since im refurbishing that and nned the photos on a MBA-iPad-Phine at times!
 
Are people happy with the new overhauled Photos app in iOS 18 now? 😀

We've had a few incremental releases of iOS 18.x, so I'm wondering if you wish you could still revert back to how it was in iOS 17.x. (do you use an alternative app?)

Is the Photos app actually better in iOS 18.x 🤔

I've found that I generally utilize the Photos app much much less than before. I've even noticed that I take less pictures now, too. Pretty sad.

I have no issue with it at all and it works just fine for me.

I'm happy. Tweaked it. Very minimal and uncluttered now.

Was thinking about this more... Going back I DID clearly take a lot more pictures last year around this same time/place. Lots of pictures of skylines and trees and landscapes.. I'm also seeing greater spans in time from when pictures have been taken. I do like the CAMERA app now a lot, too. It's simple and intuitive and my iPhone 14 Pro Max still takes great photos. The Photos app, though, even after all this time and after tweaking whatever options are available, it's still too cumbersome.

In hindsight, now knowing how Apple feels about how they failed with Apple Intelligence, it seems as though they were setting up the Photos app to utilize this new AI and help organize things and folders, etc.. Knowing the iPhone 14 series isn't going to really see that AI stuff, does that just imply we're left with an incomplete half baked Photos app? Was there to be more expected after integrating more AI into the mix? And now knowing that they're taking a quick pause to analyze how they are going to move forward, it seems like this half baked Photos app will get left behind and considered "complete" as they move on to other things.

I'm so hoping this next round of Summer updates at WWDC showcase an upcoming "Snow Leopard" type of release. Doubt it.

No, angry as back in september.
Using HashPhotos to see how many pics I´ve taken this year - after 12 years of using Apple´s app for this.
And everytime I use this tiny little search button while stretching my hand to cause pain, I miss the search button in the bottom bar.
The new ptotos app and some other software nonsens on iOS, watchOS and MAcOS (here espacially the maps app on Sequioa!) has changed myself from a true fanboy to an user who hardly despise Apple now. I have not bought as much hardware as earlier and I´m sure that with iOS 19 (and the other updates) in september my contempt will get even bigger.
There are idiots.

I'm still on iOS 17.7 and have a 14PM. I won't be going to iOS 18, due to the new Photos App. I see YouTube videos on how to fix it and comments everywhere on how to tweak it. That should not be necessary. How happy are you with "HashPhotos"? I never heard of it until you mentioned it. Can you get a pay-once full time subscription?
Is the photo editor recommended?

Using HashPhotos only for looking how many pics I´ve made this year. Nothing else.

And yes, referring to the old photos app.
 
Photos app has two essential use to me: access to recent photos, and discover old photos.

Before iOS 18 those were on different tabs, which is okay. Now they're on the same page, which is better.

I wish they were still under different tabs at the bottom, because I thought that was better. That's the whole point of this thread :)

Seconded. I only have 'Utilities' at the bottom and now dont ever have to switch between tabs to find things. My only complaint is that the search function should really be at the bottom of the screen to make it easier to reach. Much of the time I forget there was even an old photos app!

Likewise re Utilities. I have “pinned collections“ below that which is off screen. Photos with aspect ratio and zoomed. All good (think it was a Zollo vid that helped me sort the original mess) love it now.

I'll have to look it up, Zollotech is one of the best tech channels out there.
