Also really nice to see a majority in this poll who like Tahoe. I’m actually pretty surprised since it often seems like people are really negative about it in this forum. 🙂👍🏻

Sadly, like most things in life, it's the 'squeaky wheel' that get's heard, and not the silent majority, that are too busy living their lives, or accepting that not everything is perfect, and if they don't have the tools/skills/knowledge to change/fix it, they move on.

Too soon to say.

I’ve had enough early upgrade regrets that I’ve started waiting until Spring to install the newest OS unless there is a must-have feature.

It isn’t Spring yet.

Hard to answer this for everyone, but for me, in my use case, no!

I do the usual browsing/emailing/watching of movies/ tv shows. I am learning to code, and also do a little bit of DaVinci video editing. I run the full gamut of Microsoft 365 applications, and run Windows 11 through Parallels. The machine I use, is a MacBook Pro M3 Pro, 14 inch.
Good for you, but I have heard from my friend that after the update her macbook got slow.

Depending on the applications you use or need. There are multiple other threads about compatibility and bugs, you might take a look.
But if you can afford not to upgrade, just hope it’s all figured out once you do.
I use my macbook for music production, so most of the time I use garageband on it.

And that proves what? At best that's hearsay. What I will tell you, and this is something that is well known amongst regular computer users, as well as the very. knowledgeable, after installing a new OS, there is a period of 'reindexing' that occurs. With macOS, that involves Spotlight, and it's been well documented for many, many years, that this causes a temporary slowing down of a computer.

It struck me that a poll charting the move back to a previous macOS version after some time on Tahoe is probably more informative and indicative of where things lie, so here it is:

POLL

Have you reverted to a previous version of macOS after trying out Tahoe and if so what version?

GarageBand… may I ask if pressing 0 returns you to the start of an instrument/the project? It hasn’t worked for me in years and I’ve given up reporting the same things over and over.
Not even the app icon has been updated in over half a year.
Anyway, as far as I know it’s not more nor less broken than under Sequoia.

Yeah, but it's been so long. does it take months to settle a new update?

I recently erased my Mac and it re-downloaded Sequoia. Since I had never used it before, I decided to try it for a few days. It was so ugly, I gave up within hours and upgraded.

My newer Mac is stuck on Tahoe and I find myself dealing with an Intel MacBook just to avoid Tahoe.

The incredible snappiness advanced of M-series Macs seems washed out by the poor performance and hanging stutters on Tahoe, so intel doesn't feel QUITE as slow as it used to
What is your newer Mac? I just downgraded my M4 MBA. It is much better and wasn't hard to do.

M5 MBP (base model). I thought about using it for a server since Tahoe now supports the remote SSH headless reboot with File Vault, but it is much slower than our existing server (a Mac Pro running Catalina). If 26.4 or 26.5 doesn’t make a big difference I will likely just sell the m5

I just upgraded on Sunday and I'm ok with it. Everything seems to be working well so far and I haven't noticed any problems or glitches. There has been no noticable slow down or battery life depletion. The upgrade maybe took 20 - 30 minutes. After reading the comments on here I was a little apprehensive about upgrading, but there was no issue and I'm happy!

I like the new OS. I like the design and it certainly makes a change from the older Finder design. It's nice to have something different and more modern. I have no complaints at all.

Welcome aboard! Yeah, I suspect either many people here are doing more niche stuff like running custom software and such that may be causing issues with the software for them, or maybe ran betas of Tahoe which often leads to rollover bugs, or are otherwise more adventurous with tweaking their computers in ways that most average users don’t, and so are more likely to encounter bugs and issues. I’m on the absolute cheapest Apple Silicon Mac that runs Tahoe (the base spec M1 Mac Mini), and Tahoe runs butter smooth. 👍🏻. I’m running developer betas on a 5-6 year old budget model computer with 8GB RAM and the oldest Apple Silicon M1 chip with the weakest graphics performance of all Apple Silicon Macs, running it with an LG 4K monitor I picked up for cheap refurbished, and using a cheap Walmart brand HDMI cable for connection, and I am not encountering any bugs beyond the cmd+tab app switcher I never normally use anyways not changing color between Light Mode and Dark Mode… 🤷🏼‍♂️. Yet I should be at the very highest chance of encountering all of these supposed “planned obsolescence performance slowdowns”, but I haven’t… 🤦🏼‍♂️. And btw, the “planned obsolescence” argument every time someone encounters a bug gets very old… 🙄🤦🏼‍♂️. Apple is well known for providing great support for their devices, they even literally pushed out software updates for devices like the iPhone 5S! That’s hardly “planned obsolescence”… 🤦🏼‍♂️🙄

But yeah, glad it’s working great for you as well. 🙂👍🏻

No

Thanks man.

Can ask you a question? What DAW are you using?
None. GarageBand has so many bugs it broke my spirit.
You can’t select recent projects from the first Open window, effects randomly either dont play or fade out abruptly at the end of any individual sequence it sees fit, you have to move the curser to a specific place to return to the beginning of something. I got special headphones just for music creation and never really used them because GarageBand is a neglected piece of 2000‘s software that’s giving me more pain than joy.
The fact they there is still no proper macOS 26 logo, despite there being one for other platforms, is saying it all.

Not only that, but in Apple's case, they're such a successful company that the media loves to jump on the slightest complaints to say things like "Apple screwed up bigtime", "customers hate Tahoe", "Apple is DOOOOOMED".

Then they give it cutesy names like "a-few-people-with-nothing-better-to-do-complain-about-rounded-corners-gate".

Anything to get viewers to their sites, to drive ad revenue.

You make music with headphones? which headphone?

I like the new features (send callers to voice mail for example), it seems stable enough.

The UI I am not too bothered by, I don't like the different radius corners, but I can get over it for the security and functionality enhancements.
