I dunno, I kinda miss the Intel Macbooks keeping my lap warm.

I live in a kinda cold area especially during winter

Anyone else lol?

I put a wool blanket over my legs and then a comforter on top of that. I was using my 2015 MacBook Pro to help keep warm until a few weeks ago. One thing about the 2015 MacBook Pro is that I had to keep it on the charger a good chunk of the time because the battery life was about five hours. I really didn't like the charging brick in the living room.

The 2021 MacBook Pro 16 charger is on a table in the basement. I can go and quick-charge it and then bring it to the living room where it will be good for a couple of days and I don't have to worry about cords on the floor in the living room. Another alternative is long underwear.

I miss my Early 2015 MBP 13", which was lost by the Apple in repair.
It has been now 15 days and I still miss it. Especially for the last 2 years it was usually around 50-70 degrees, sometimes even worse ?
However I miss it not because of the warm computer, but the legend machine ?

Would you take a 2020 as a replacement?

Wonderful..

Then of course, I think computers can be and should be seasonal and situational. Use powerful Intel machines in winters, and cool cucumbers M-series round the year. In need of a safe, non-drying heater for your lap? Get the Intel out and launch Cinebench.

To this effect, I think Apple should put the top-spec Intel chip in the 12" fan-less chassis and call it Apple Lap Heater. It should run a modified OS to the purpose of keeping the chassis just at the tipping point of shutdown to be comfortably toasty, does not need to be clamshell as there is no need for it to be open, should have the same battery that chassis could hold, but have 2 USB-C ports (one for charging it and one for charging our iDevices while on the lap) and yes, because of the battery, it would be a portable heater as well. The perfect little Apple Lap Heater for people living in colder parts of the world.

I might like a Silver or Starlight Apple Lap Heater for USD 499 but at that price it should:
1. come with a 2m USB-C cable
2. come with Apple Polishing Cloth to keep the body shining to spec
3. have battery life rated for at least 2000 heat cycles.

You can get cool running Intel systems too. I built one specifically to run cool and quiet. It can generate heat if you increase the workload a lot. I really enjoy the cool and quiet M1 systems but even my Intel MacBook Pro 2015 runs cool in the basement. The basement is unheated and it's below freezing outside so the room is cold in the winter. I do have a space heater if it gets really cold. I also have an old Intel Nehalem system that runs pretty hot but I haven't used it for quite some time.

Yes, Intels have been running cool. I have been enjoying cool Intels all the while until now when I got my M1 chip. The whole joke about toasty lap heaters is really getting old now, which was the point of my comment. :)

Typing this on one right now--a final-generation March 2020 MBA. I really love how the fan will randomly spin up for no reason, as well, and the random static pops which Apple failed to repair even though I had them look at it twice under warranty. I'm waiting for an M1X or M2 MBA to replace this road apple.

I miss the Touch Bar
I love the Touch Bar! Sit-in pretty on my M1 MBP. Seeing you could just turn it off and have it display the functions keys, I never understood how some people would get so down right hateful over it. I look at it this way, extra feature = good. can turn it off if you don't like it - just like not having it

Sometimes when I am wearing shorts and put the laptop on my lap, it is very cold and once I even thought about running a benchmark in the background to keep it warm, just to be astonished by how stupid that thought is in the next moment. ?

I replaced my Intel MacBook Pro with an iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard and it’s the best of both worlds for this specific topic! Because the Magic Keyboard has some sort of soft plastic coating material, I no longer have to deal with cold metal touching my legs in winter or an oven on my legs in summer. :)

I get this completely, heck even my 2020 intel macbook pro gets a little to cold on a cold day. Sounds silly but a quick 10 min run of cinebech always warms it up for my poor hands.

still happily working on my loaded up 2019... until new max comes between Feb 8 to Feb 20th that is :) ? ? ? ?
truth I had no real complaints as it was on a desk some where when used more times then not.
if not for some darn good response on in store use on base model along with great (to me anyhow) price for this current one and edu deal on new one I could have waited... but seems since my late 2013 rMBP all MBP's bought around Xmas I didn't want to change that ;)

My problem has always been the reverse! The aluminum-cased MBAs are s-o-o-o COLD in the winter (BRRR!), they are almost painful to pick up.

The palm rest remains very cold to the touch for hours and can be almost uncomfortable to type on.

Even through flannel pjs, my legs could get cold from them!

Much preferred the old "plastic" iBook G4, which never seemed to be affected by the heat or the cold. But it was a tad heavy to rest comfortably on a lap.

I don’t know which intel you had but my 2015 gets hot enough to fry eggs, and everytime I launch zoom it sounds like I live next to the airport.

Hahaha mine was the same ?
Using zoom and sometimes watching some YouTube videos were making my device so poor ? it was around 85 degree and the fans would work usually at 6000RPM, close to an airport ☺️?
But overall, I was in love with that device ?

I just used mine for email, YouTube and web browsing and it was fine for that. Zoom would get the fans spinning. If you just use it for light stuff, it's fine. Best laptop for running Zoom is the M1 MacBook Air.
