there
M1 Macs seem to be able to run 32 bit Intel apps. Strange side benefit of Rosetta2 I think...
that is good, just the later OS software like iTunes that works with a Bose sound touch is no more.
the OS form Catalina on is developed for apple components like those ipodballs, (forgot what that are called)
anyways if you are happy with the M1 and their software, that is good.
for others we are thankful Intel and Mojave still packs a punch!

Oooh, we don't need an oven or stove, just an older macbook pro and some tinfoil, nor a heater, huge old mac pro is best!

I don’t know which intel you had but my 2015 gets hot enough to fry eggs, and everytime I launch zoom it sounds like I live next to the airport.
I just had a chance to test a Zoom meeting on my new M1 Pro 2021 14" base-model MBP, I got shocked.
It never got any temperature, I checked it always, it was always around 30-35 degree during the 100 minutes Zoom meeting + 6-7 tabs of the Safari.

This is a shocking milestone from Apple.
My Early 2015 13" MBP, my poor lovely lost computer, was always trying to survive and it was running around 85 degree. Now the M1 Pro processor is incredible in terms of temperature and power management.

I don't miss my 2019 16" one bit.

Tho my M1 feels cold and lifeless, at least my cats won't all be trying to sit on top of it.
Seriously. I went in my office this morning, and it seems like the cats were enjoying the MBP even though it was idle. Looks like they got startled and jumped off, the machine was hanging by the usb and thunderbolt cables! Good thing too or it would have hit the ground.

I love the Touch Bar! Sit-in pretty on my M1 MBP. Seeing you could just turn it off and have it display the functions keys, I never understood how some people would get so down right hateful over it. I look at it this way, extra feature = good. can turn it off if you don't like it - just like not having it
I’m actually surprised at the muscle memory I had for the volume and brightness. My hand would flit to the Touch Bar, tap and slide effortlessly like I was on the Enterprise. Now, I have three separate keys and bash ‘em like a Cro-Magnon.
Unga bunga. :)

My solution came to me, a couple mice that wanted to use my new Pro Max to run some calculations. Something about Life and Everything. Maybe the Universe? Anyway, I run that whenever I want to warm it up. It STILL doesn’t get very warm and the fans still don’t kick on, but that at least brings it to just a hair cooler than room temperature, which is better than ice cold.

Some folks may balk at running applications provided by rodentia, but they seemed eminently trustworthy.

I have very fond memories of living in the attic of a drafty, 300 year old house, where the indoor temps. where typically in the low 40s all winter long. I used to curl up under a pile of wool blankets with my toasty Powerbook, which was always hot enough to keep my hands from going numb. Fond memories indeed.

Now that I can afford winter heating though, can't say I miss the toasty Macs much.

For now i will keep cooking on my 13 inch i7 2020 macbook pro and a black magic egpu. Had this one for a year only after 3 replacements cause of faulty butterfly keyboards.

The new ones look good and feel so nice …… but …… that notch …. I just cant stand it :). Ill wait for next years release.

I like using my 2016 MacBook Pro when it is warm too. Even better is my 2010 MacBook Pro. I feel like when the computer is running hot I know it is working hard!

They should add an option to set a target temperature in the winter for the new Macbooks ?
