I’ve had an issue with some apps ever since I clean installed Sonoma on my M1 Max Studio back in January. Apps such as Adobe Suite, Chrome and Office take a a while to load when launched first time or after a restart but the cache keeps the loads speed after launches. I never had this issue with Ventura which was pre-installed on purchase. Anyone else have this issue or, ideas?

I have Macbook Pro m3 pro, and this is mostly 99% runs fine except when I leave it off overnight sometimes when I boot it it takes a while for all the things to load to the desktop. Like nothing seems to be happening. Other times everything loads immediately. It seems to randomly happen. I can only assume it's some app causing it during boot. But if I reboot it never happens. So I'm stumped. But it's not a real issue so meh. My mac mini M2 and Macbook air M2 both have been trouble free so far.

does it take long enough to be problematic? (ie is it just annoying?). and try opening the apps in a 'test' admin account; this will tell you, at least, if the problem is related to your account... or 'global'...

Just annoying. Surprisingly there no Apple apps that are slow loaders.

affinity photo took a long time to open on my previous M2 air; on my new M2 air (i updated for more ram & storage)... it opens quickly. not sure why that would be... but perhaps try creating a test user account, see if they're sluggish there (just a suggestion).

Just now. I turned on my old old MBA 2017 so I can wipe it clean and just have it setup new with no iCloud account. After that was done and setting it up, my iMac M3 Keyboard with Touch ID complete disconnected on the iMac. BT pref says it's no longer paired and will need it paired again. I just plugged in the cable and its paired back to normal. I think this iMac M3 or Sonoma is making BT really sensitive to interference. I turned off the BT on the MBA since I'll never need it.

Weird, I just did Mac Diagnostic on the iMac M3 and then Safe Mode. Found the instructions on Apple.com. Because of that Quicktime crash that turned the screen pink and rebooted the Mac, I figure I better run it just in case. After the Mac rebooted and signed in, the BT Keyboard Setup came up and wanted me to verify the keyboard I guess? I should have taken a screen shot. It asked me to press the keys next to the shift keys, and then it proceeded as normal. That was weird.

Update: Now none of the media buttons work. Just get the dreaded error beep. So I remove it from BT list and plugged it back in with the supplied cable to the back of the iMac M3. Immediately paired and remembered the name I gave it. Now it's working again. Hmm that was weird but its fixed now.

Ok so Mail just unexpectedly quit. It was just up and running doing its thing. I wasn't even using it, just in the background. Got the unpexpectedly quit message. I have no idea what all that code stuff listed, but I put my comment and send it off to Apple. I have 16.7gb of iCloud mail. I'm starting to think Sonoma has way too many quirks. Not enough to declare it useless, but Apple needs to clean up the OS.

sonoma is running beautifully here, it's best moment (for me) yet. so...what other quirks? and how is this different that this OS, or any earlier OS, at any given moment?

there are always bugs, quirks. random moments. it's the nature of any OS...

Background I got this iMac brand new. 24RAM, 2TB, 8, 10 core. I set it up new with no migration. iCloud Service and mail is just one account. iCloud account. Anyway this is the second time I think Mail quit unexpectedly. The other quirks are BT. Like yesterday the Keyboard just stopped connecting and when it did reconnect it wanted me to press the keys next to the shift keys to confirm connection, but none of the buttons like sound, brightness, caps worked. Just basic keys. I was able to delete the keyboard and plug in the cable to reconnect and it worked normally again. The Magic Trackpad had "delays, stutter, lags, sudden jumps" badly. Now with 14.4, that part is mostly fixed. It rarely does it or so minuscule I don't notice it anymore.

got it, and, fwiw, these are not issues everyone is facing. but yes, stuff should 'just work'. and even on a new, 'clean' mac, there will be bugs, problems. hoping the next update fixes things for you.

Yes as a long time Mac guy since 84 with my 512k, I expect some weirdness once in an awhile. Nothing is perfect and as long as it's not catastrophic that causes data loss these things are livable. 😊 If anything goes bad we have TM. Time Machine has saved my bacon several times when the old 2013 iMac decided to stop loading the OS and just gave me the folder as a surprise gift one day with Catalina.

whether you're a 'long time Mac guy' or just got your first mac... all the same. every OS (as you know) has it's good & bad moments, and all the variables between users (the hardware, processes running, apps we use, etc) matter, too.

so it goes...

Strongly suggest to make sure you update to 14.4. You can also run safe mode once and reboot to normal mode. Remove the trackpad from BT and pair it back by cable also might help. My issue with the Magic Trackpad has really improved to almost 100% normal compared to where I first got the iMac M3 in Dec. It was set up new with no migration and the trackpad was all over the place. It would suddenly jump to the ver corners when I move the cursor. That particular annoyance hasn't happened in 14.4.

I waited until 14.4 to jump in with my 15" MBA. Pretty much smooth as butter. I had a couple of minor Finder window preferences change on me, and it seems like iCloud syncing always needs a bit of a touchup after these. And in the next few days I bet I'll see some things in the more IOS-like System Settings that will seem weird to me.

In fact, the wallpapers were refriggulated, too, and fixing those was more a matter of "how would I think about this if I had a phat one just prior" than "figuring it out:" AKA, how doth I rotate amongst the images in a folder for Desktop Pictures? Well, I go to the folder in the setting and press on the very first image with the rotate symbol on it. Don' have ta read or nuthin', of course.

I've been seeing several bugs that includes a Safari crash as well. Just wondering how it is for the rest of the Mac users.

dippold the optician
As stated in the news, JAVA applications may crash; more precisely:
they seem to become headless (no windows/no input/no output).
This means that some remains must be killed somewhere i.o.t. restart.
Otherwise you got to log out or reboot.

The phenomenon is very random: it can even NOT be provoked, you walk on quick sands.

A good thing: JAVA is widely spread and it's 'mother' is ORACLE, which is a big company, pushing APPLE.
So, we're waiting for SONOMA 14.4.1 or such.

...... that update may bring new problems ...... (Yes, I'm an optimist)

Well I was hoping 100% fix with the Magic Trackpad 2. The slight "stuttering, pause, sudden jump" still there. Specially if you adjust the tracking speed to mid or faster. Yes I did the Feedback Thing each and every time the update comes out for Sonoma.

I would expect another update in a few weeks; 14.4.1 addresses only 3 or 4 bugs, so I understood.
