Ive had two units now with this, one better than the other but

Figured I’d make a poll about it

Regarding yellow tint, just want to mention this.
Some people see different color temperature using different eyes, like they see things more yellow-ish with left eye than right, so just make sure this is not the 'yellow tint' you have

This Is a completely valid point. Everybody will have a slightly different standard on what their eyes can perceive. And I can attest to this based on what I see with all my Apple devices compared to what somebody else might see with side-by-side comparison's. Even Apple employee's can't differentiate certain aspects with their eyes or under a certain lighting conditions with certain products. If it's an extreme defect, then yes, it should be perceived by many. But if it's slight, that might very based on someone's eyesight and overall color perception.

I just returned my second unit for this

My 9.7 pro has a better screen more uniform and more vivid watching videos

Sound also seemed slightly better on 9.7 too less distortion prone

It was close but sad previous gen outdid two units. Tho I know ymmv since it's a lottery.

Plus I wanted to return before I get to spoiled to ProMotion to go back to anything else :p

Having to re buy keyboard and no silicone case also strengthened the case

...but 10.5 is a nicenipad for sure.

Just cozier with a JAILBROKEN device on stable OS and I like 9.7 size apparently (for tablet use)

Even tho 10.5 landscape is nice

Oh and Touch ID gen 2 at last was sweet

As for updated 7 camera vs 6s cam in 9.7, doesn't matter to me in a tablet

I received my 256GB 10.5 today and it has a yellow banded area at the bottom (when holding in portrait). It mostly disappears when true tone is turned off, but there's definitely something weird going on with it. My iPad Air 2 is mostly even, and my wife's iPad Pro 9.7 is perfect. I'll likely send mine back for a refund and stick with my iPad Air 2. Such a shame. I hate the screen lottery!!

i had this with almost every new iphone..after 2-3 days and almost over 15 h usage the yellow tint is gone

I can't return mine until Monday so I'll be interested to see if the tint goes away by then. But... I've had varoius defects on tablet/phone/computer screens over the years and I've never seen any of them dissapear with time. I just think there nature of LCD backlight manufacture and technology means it is always going to be a lottery.
My problem is that I love photography and have very keen eyes for colour and accuracy, so I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to screens. And I'd gladly buy a returned open unit from apple if I could inspect it and confirm it had a uniform screen.

Yeah it's there, it's quite faint but I can see it. Reminds me a lot of the Surface Pro 3 yellow stripe issue, but not as pronounced.

Screen also clicks (definitely the adhesive strips not fully bonded) when I push gently on the bottom bezel, and the LCD ripples/distorts there too. It's likely this is just the cost of slimmer bezels.

Since I went through a ridiculous number of Air 2's with colour shifts left to right, bottom half yellow, blue band along the edges, I'm considering this a "win" and keeping it.

Pretty annoying though.

Got a third unit with yellow at the bottom edge

Still pink off axis and brightness heavily reduced off axis compared to 9.7 pro too

Outside of slightly marginally improved sunlight readability and awesome 120hz these panels are inferior

I'm throwing in the towel.

Good game apple

I'm screen OCD and I've just picked up my cellular white/silver 512GB, and I can't fault the panel on this one. I've rejected devices before for tint-shifting to pink or yellow. This looks superb with TT on or off.

Awesome!

I would hope not for the top SKU but it's up to total chance

It certainly takes the excitement out of purchasing. I buy Apple stuff expecting issues nowadays.

Yeah apple purchases are dare I say, stressful.

Exciting once you're over the hump

Seems like finding a nice panel if you're perceptive/picky is a needle in a haystack this iteration

Oh I've gone through the mixer as far as faulty products are concerned:

iPhone 4 - flickering interlace on screen - 1 exchange
iPad mini - flickering interlace on screen - 2 exchanges
iPad Air - bookspine, bad pink tint on screen, broken sleep button - 3 exchanges
Mini 2 - Yellow tint on bottom, shadowing on top of screen - 3 exchanges
iPad Air 2 - scratches, dust under screen - 4 exchanges
Mini 4 - Yellow tint, snowstorm/static on screen - 2 exchanges
MacBook Pro 2014 - pink shift on screen - returned and repurchased
iMac 5K 2014 - recently had it's 2nd screen replacement due to dark blotches in bottom corners
iPad Pro 9.7 - scratch on chamfered edge - 1 exchange

However, my iPhones haven't been an issue, and I have had 3G, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6 plus, 6s plus and now 7 plus.

First time since 2010 that my first iPad is perfect. No bleed, dead/stuck pixels, tint, bookspine effect, etc.
Still can't believe it.

Was dreading what had become the annual upgrade return&replace lottery.

Sounds like you were due for a good one!

Congrats!

The problems are SOOOO predictable

Interlacing was terrible!

It affects 7 still on some units, off axis you see like a diagonal grid haha. Not on my 7+ phew, but I saw a 7 with it

Yellow edges, uneven tint, dim spine effect, etc etc

Apple should pay me to point this out to them :D

I guess most people dont care about screen issues and/or dont see them though.

a pic I posted in another related thread (so people can see what I'm referring to, though I think its even more distracting in person than this pic)

The problem is that colour shifts are more noticeable left/right as that's the natural reading direction.
I forgot one of my original minis had 3 dead pixels. BUT, to be fair, Apple have always sorted me out with very little issue or resistance.

Yeah Apple returns are easy. I usually don't fill them in on the small details though, as I don't want to debate them or have them rationalize my flawed purchase for me,

This is the yellow tinted edge Im referring to that I posted in another related thread (looks worse in person Imo) -

I've managed to reduce yellow on a couple of devices by "cooking" the display overnight. Fullscreen white display/picture, full brightness, auto-lock off, and stick it in a sleeve or blanket and leave overnight.

its a thought, but I'm doubtful it'll go away.

No longer have the units to find out anyways, too many hoops for $700

most recent 10.5 panel on right
Not entirely accurate, my pro 9.7 doesn't look pink like that on the left/its uniform but it has more contrast than 10.5, in surfing, and in videos the color is more rich while maintaining accuracy before anyone says the right is more accurate lol

And the 10.5 isn't brighter! its more legible outside by a hair, but all this talk of nits, and I don't see it!

Deffo a faulty unit purely for your comment on the brightness. When I put my 9.7 and 10.5 next to each other on my office desk with full brightness, the 10.5 was noticeably brighter.

Yeah you either lucked out completely (sounds like it from lack of yellow edge)

OR

You lucked out and your 9.7 pro was subpar of all the panel lottery out there for that one, even though you found it do-able

:D

Either way, you win !

In a sense, I win too :) saved some $ not upgrading, keep jailbreak, and keep good panel!

Posting mine, and running the risk someone tells me my panel is actually crap lol. Brighter tho, and even more so in real life.

I always compare with auto brightness off

But this photo demonstrates it plenty! Awesome!

Looks like your 9.7 may have been a bit sub par though acceptable, but that 10.5 indeed looks nice!

Maybe I'm just traumatized from three units with yellow edge at bottom, but the bottom looks ever so slightly darker which i could totally cope with vs the yellow strip (which i dont see on yours!)

Did you ask to purchase a demo unit? :p just kidding
