wow, and you finally got a good one im assuming at last?

I hope you're holding onto that thing longer than one year for all that hassle :D

I know I would

I think this from time to time, but I can’t rule out that a kind of optical illusion effect is occurring.

I bought it in Germany
[doublepost=1506015443][/doublepost]btw. it seems the yellow band is most visible in true tone mode + night shift. turning of both modes, the yellow band is practically not visible. still not a good solution for everybody, since I really like the true tone option

It's true that true tone does exaggerate any yellowing.

I have the same issue and I am deeply disappointed. I can see this darker strip when the brightness is not high and when I am in a relatively low light environment.
In my company they have bought several ipads 10.5 and, remaining reasonable, I have tried 8 of them and almost all of them had the issue of a dark strip in the bottom part close to the home button. At the end I have chosen one which has this faint dark strip hoping to get used to it. I might have taken one without this issue but it would have been at the price of accepting dead pixels or backlight bleeding on black screen: more annoying to me....

How can I determine the date of buinding of my ipad?I would say that it is relatively recent as it came in with 10.3.3 pre installed.

Thanks

I had the opportunity to test the newest 10.5 batch with a 8 in the serialnumber. The yellow band has remained.

As written earlier, don’t waste your time with that and enjoy your device
It is indeed a frustrating and not worthy lottery....

I don’t know if this has anything to do with the yellow band at the botttom issue, but my 10.5 was sensitive to slight light bleed only across that edge (next to home button).

It seemed as if there was some slight physical space along that edge and not at the other edges. I went to the Apple Store to see if my 10.5 Pro was somehow defective, but all display models there had the same “feature”. It’s not readily apparent as you have to apply some pressure on that side. It didn’t bother me once I confirmed all 10.5’s seem to have this. I only ran into it by pressing the home button a little too hard occasionally.

I think it has to do with the fully laminated screen on the 10.5, as my 2017 9.7 isn’t sensitive to this at all on any edges.

I bought a new 10.5 pro today and it has the yellow band at the bottom. Any chance it might go away in time with use?

I doubt anything will change. It’s either a feature of lamination (seems to be somewhat common) or something unusual with yours. You could take it into an Apple Store for their evaluation.

Wow ... good to know there are more people out in the world who are as picky as I am :)

I've bought my Pro 10.5 five days ago after I've had the iPad Air 2 for the last 3 years. I'd kept the Air2 for 1-2 more years although I loved the idea of writing my notes witah a pen, but the IPad 3 my wife uses was getting really slow, some apps did not run on IOS 9 and the battery started to loose capacity after nearly six years of usage.

My Air2 had the most perfect display I've ever seen on an iPad. Absolutely uniform. A stuck or dead pixel would be a no-go for me, so I've checked the Pro right after the purchase. No scratches, no dust, no dead pixels, screen looked good. Took it home, used it around 5 hours the first day with no issues.

On the second day in the morning I noticed that there is a faint redish tint on the left side of the display, so I started googling and found so many threads about the "Display lottery". Once you know it's there, it's always there ... so I really think the human brain plays a big role in the game. Especially when you get your new toy.

My feeling is that this faint redish tint is much worse on >50% of the Pro's I've seen in video reviews or in pics in this and other threads. Playing the lottery I have the feeling I'd have a much higher chance to loose than to get a really 100% perfect display. Interesting: Comparing both iPads in the dark side by side my Air2 has a slight pinkish touch over all, but this touch is uniform.

I guess I get used to it when the iPad turns from the beloved new toy into a "production device" over the next 2-3 weeks *g*

For the records: My one is a DMPV, produced in CW40/2017.

I had absolutely the same Ipad's like you! There were 5 iPhones. Now my mother has Ipad Air 2, I have Ipad Pro 10.5 and Iphone 7. This is my second Ipad Pro 10.5 because the first sold because of such a marriage: yellow in the area of the Home button, poorly working volume increase button, 7800 mAh battery instead of the claimed 8140, 4 times per month the touch screen hovered. Now I have a new Ipad for the UK and its screen, compared to my Iphone 7 has a more correct white, and the Ipad Air 2 is the best. But, when I put my devices with Samsung S8, it turned out that Apple devices have a pinkish tint of displays, and Samsung has the best display among them)

My 12.9 also has the faint dark line along the home button side. You can only see it in certain situations and seems to be something i may live with considering everything thing else is perfect.

DLX - Purchased 12/14/17

That's comparing apples to peas unfortunately. The S8 has an OLED display (same as the iPhone X) which is a totally different technology compared to IPS LCD.
The button issue is indeed a no-go ...

The "certain situations" is exactly the point with my faint pinkish hue. I'm super sensitive at the moment for this, and working on the table with the smartcover in the back using the on-screen-keyboard you mostly have a bad angle to the display. This morning the pinkish hue was so visible for me that I was thinking about making an appointment and showing this to a Genius.

One hour later - same situation - even I did only barely notice this.

I showed this yesterday evening to my wife. She looked at it a minute in different angles and then asked me laughing: Where do you see a pinkish hue? That's just white. I showed her from the same angle, she still did not see it. Layed it side-by-side to my Ex-iPadAir2 which is now hers and still she did not notice anything. I stopped that before she thinks I'm going mad ... but she was kidding me the whole evening like "Oh, look at this book, it's pink" *lol*

It seems all of us are more or less sensitive to what we call "normal IPS effects" like pinkish or blueish hue when you look off-axis, darker stripes caused by the LED backlight bar etc. Meanwhile I see the pinkish hue more or less in every single picture in this thread (even those which are commented as a perfect panel). I think >95% of the people do not even see it or it does not distract them and the super sensibles are pooling in threads like this.

Light scene is an important point and I'm pretty sure TrueTone amplifies these effects. Without TT I basically can't really see the hue even in 30° angle or more, not sure if there is a wave length depending on the TT adjustments which amplifies the effect. Also as brighter the background light as less visible is it. I guess a Genius in an Apple Store would lough at me the same way as my wife

So although I like the TrueTone feature basically I feel the color and view angle is more consistent with having it turned off.

I certainly know about the different types of screens in these devices, but Apple has always emphasized the "ideality" of its displays. In fact, it's not so.
