That's another thing I wanted to ask @topdog9000

Off axis, does your panel look sorta pink? Without truentone on of course (Like iPad flat on lap, and look at it at an angle)

If so, I still wouldn't bother swapping (especially if you dont have another non-10.5 to compare to)

But I'm just curious if this is characteristic to all panels, including the good ones like yours, or if its something thats a red flag of the poopy ones

Here's some off angle shots. If this doesn't help let me know I can take whatever angle shot you want. I don't really see any pink from any off angle viewing. If I hold it in a million directions can I get it to slightly resemble the faintest of pink...sort of but I'm pretty picky and moving it in many angles or especially like you said laying flat on my lap I don't see pink.

Thanks a lot!

Hard to capture pictures of displays accurately, even more when u get into off axis i think

BUT thats great news!

All three units I had, the slightest off axis would result in varying degrees of pink. I thought may be its part of the new screen tech to accommodate ProMotion, but that appears to not be the case.

So that is a red flag of an inferior-to-previous-gen panel for nitpicky folks!

Too bad I'm not like going bonkers for a 10.5" mostly because ill be paying a lot out of pocket assumign i even can sell my base 9.7 pro

I just dont like wasting time to be back to square one, but like i said I'm throwing in the towel for a while. Maybe a fire sale price will tempt me to try again one day

If not ill just wait it out my 9.7 pro with all the accessories and a jialbreak and nice screen is no slouch either

I kept ipad 3 instead of going 4 specifically for this reason lol. Gave up after a few tries, wasn't worth it to me in the end

When i want an upgrade, i want an UPGRADE. You know>?

And the 10.5 isn't brighter! its more legible outside by a hair, but all this talk of nits, and I don't see it!

Is auto-brightness on? I didn't notice a big increase in brightness when I cranked slider all the way to right but turning off auto-brightness immediately afterwards boosted the brightness big time.

I also find TrueTone diminishes brightness noticeably.

But you know you stuff, doubt you didn't already think about those factors.

Oh I've gone through the mixer as far as faulty products are concerned:

iPhone 4 - flickering interlace on screen - 1 exchange
iPad mini - flickering interlace on screen - 2 exchanges
iPad Air - bookspine, bad pink tint on screen, broken sleep button - 3 exchanges
Mini 2 - Yellow tint on bottom, shadowing on top of screen - 3 exchanges
iPad Air 2 - scratches, dust under screen - 4 exchanges
Mini 4 - Yellow tint, snowstorm/static on screen - 2 exchanges
MacBook Pro 2014 - pink shift on screen - returned and repurchased
iMac 5K 2014 - recently had it's 2nd screen replacement due to dark blotches in bottom corners
iPad Pro 9.7 - scratch on chamfered edge - 1 exchange

However, my iPhones haven't been an issue, and I have had 3G, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6 plus, 6s plus and now 7 plus.

This could very well be my historical list too. I still have nightmares about the first Retina MBPs that had piss-yellow LGs with image retention issues. Took five (5) swaps to get a good Samsung panel. Anyone doing professional photo work was screwed over by Apple on that particular laptop. Terrible pink/green/yellow tint issues throughout the entire release.

Yeah I got the bases covered. TT off AUTO off 100 percent brightness

No nightshift either

Looks like his review unit may have it too? The yellow edge haha

I was pretty certain I had this issue too but now I'm less sure. On iOS 11 there was a very clear grey/shadow area running down the screen above the home button ( I use my iPad in landscape almost exclusively). I was gonna bring it back to the store and swap it out. To prepare for that, I put 10.3.2 back on and the shadow-whilst still there- was reduced. After turning off true tone and night shift and blasting the brightness to full, I can barely see the shadow at all, and if I didn't know where to look I doubt I'd ever notice it.

Only problem is, I have an eye condition that makes staring a very bright screens difficult - I can go temporarily blind from it, so obviously this isn't a feasible solution. It does have me wondering though whether this is a software rather than hardware issue which could resolve itself ... in which case there's no point in returning! Hmm. Decisions, decisions...

On my third unit I didn't bother loading iOS 11 cause it took all of 5 minutes to determine my unit was inferior to my 9.7 motion handling aside

Don't think it's software when u rotate the screen to look. The yellow edge is static. Just more noticeable in certain circumstances

Oh, it's definitely static. And on mine it's not a 'yellow' edge as such - it's exactly like the photo someone posted showing a greyish shadow area running down the side above the home button with a narrow strip of 'brighter' screen next to the bezel- as if colour adjustments etc don't run the full extent of the LCD since turning off TT/night shift helps.

I was experiencing a separate issue in iOS 11 with invert colours where the right hand edge looked like there a was serious light bleed- but that was obviously software since the affected edge changed as you rotated AND disappeared altogether in iOS 10/apps that have their own dark mode. As soon as the public beta hits I'll report it.

Oh yeah I know exactly what u mean

That can be jarring it is a weird visual for smart invert colors. Should be smarter. Haha

Got a third unit with yellow at the bottom edge

Still pink off axis and brightness heavily reduced off axis compared to 9.7 pro too

Outside of slightly marginally improved sunlight readability and awesome 120hz these panels are inferior

I'm throwing in the towel.

Good game apple

Ok, goodbye.

Sounds like this is not the right thing for you. When you look elsewhere, I hope you can find the perfection you need.

No problem

Literally no problem. Will hang out on my 9.7 pro which still has a beautiful screen

And I concede there are good screens out there, as has been posted in this thread I just didn't get one. I also concede there are junk 9.7 panels. Junk screens for any device it happens.

Don't take mass manufactured device flaws personally, I certainly dont.

I dont think its unreasonable to not want a yellow strip/weird off axis viewing/reduced contrast/less brightness on a brand new supposedly improved screen for merits aside from ProMotion

Especially when I still have the now older one to compare to side by side, and still prefer over 3 new panels (minus ProMotion of course) rather than make things up in my head.

Also do you see the poll at the top of this thread dude? I'm not the only one with a yellow strip it appears,

I don't know. I went to the Apple Store tonight after reading this thread and I swear all six of their display models had the yellow edge.

Really? I don't think I saw it but not to say they don't have it

No sweat bro. There's nothing to worry about here. It's obviously not right for you and that's cool. Glad to hear that your 9.7 fits the bill. Cheers.

It's not a matter of "not being right for me" though my units had glaring flaws out of the box like that pic I posted of obvious intense yellow bleed and for that alone I can't even properly evaluate if it's a PRODUCT I want to keep. Because my eyes are drawn to it constantly and I'm taken out of the tablet experience immediately. Am I picky? Sure. I doubt anyone would debate that.

Should a brand new device not have this considering my 9.7 doesn't? Especially considering it bothers me and we now know it's not the case with all units.

Initiating conversation by starting off "goodbye" isn't exactly welcoming of discussion

This also isn't like a PM chat where you get to just taper this one off. It's a poll-thread and a legitimate one and it will continue.

I was excited as anyone on here to try a new size iPad/pro gen2 (If I weren't why would I go through the pain of two swaps and now back to without one?) but for now I'm gonna wait it out. Maybe the problem will improve with production over time/statistically/with luck. Who knows

This thread isn't to discourage people from buying just something I'm curious of from my own experience with the device

I didn't go through these hoops for nTB or 7+ got great screens on both first go round even though people moan about screen problems on both and I can feel their pain. 9.7 was a bumpy road too fwiw screen wise before getting a good one after giving it a good break and waiting for a good sale

I'm not sure what your angst is. I'm not dogging you or questioning you. That's cool that you're going to wait it out. Hopefully things get better for you.

^I'm just saying your initial post was simply uncalled for, don't spin it.

And you still haven't contributed to this discussion.

For example does your 10.5 have this "issue"? I'd like to get back on track

Obviously it's not a concrete issue for all too given I provided a third reasonable option for the poll

No, I do not have this issue. Obviously, every one that you look at has this issue. I'm sorry that you see yellow stripes. I hope it gets better for you in the future and every display you get is stripe-free.

Again you're being rude and absurd. Who's got angst here buddy?

You're suggesting it's a psychological issue not a physical device-basis issue from your language and I don't particularly appreciate it. One bit.

Now goodbye.

What are you talking about? I'm not suggesting that at all. You said you tried 3 iPads and you saw a yellow stripe on all of them. I've said numerous times that I hope it gets better and you find a display that is right for you. What do you want me to say? Do you want us to hope that you keep getting bad displays?

Why would I keep buying devices after I get one that is strip-free, the reason I have swapped twice? You hope every display I get is strip-free? How does that make sense?

Your blessings are insincere,

and then you play dumb. That's cowardice when having a debate I didn't ask for, and then losing that debate.

Again now goodbye,

Im sorry, but I thought you saw a yellow stripe in the third iPad you received during your series of exchanges. But based off your last post, it sounds like that changed and you now have one that is stripe-free. That's great news! I'm genuinely happy for you!

And yes, you are correct. I do not want you to get any more displays with yellow stripes.

Hi, I have this issue to my iPad Pro 10,5" but it's very light.
My wife doesn't see the yellow/grey stripe ! She takes me for a fool !!!

This problem is so discreet for me that I do not think to exchange the iPad.
Most of the time, it's invisible.
