People are not even taking pictures right, maybe even with truetone on. This thread is becoming fake news food.

You should disable truetone and take a picture around 1-2 meters away, completely perpendicular to the screen. Take a 100% white image from google and open it full screen in photos. Also enable automatic brightness, otherwise it will be too dark or blown-up.

Guys posting stuff at an angle are sure to see color variations and that might make people with solid screens return for nothing.

Also if you just want to see for yourself, put the ipad on the floor and look down. Or hold it with 2 hands right in front of your eyes, arms extended. DO NOT LOOK FOR ISSUES IF YOUR SIGHT IS NOT PERPENDICULAR TO THE SCREEN.

How so ? mine is like that with TT on.. with it off, it's brighter and whiter and it's a DLX

Oh well, time to enjoy the iPad over such OCD issues ..

Just that DL is a surer bet than DM

dude has a good DM

It's just the Wild West lottery like always

But I'd still opt for a DL if given a choice having had three DM duds

The serial# hunt is just interesting additional info

Lol! My eyes might not be catching it but... what exact part of that screen looks bad?

The bottom looks super dingy

I just exchanged mine with a DLX Wifi+Cellular. I don't know what serial number I had on the previous iPad but it was WiFi only. This one looks a lot better. I can probably see just a little bit of discoloration on one side, but it's something I can still live with if I have to.

Dang that looks really nice to me!

Crisp text too

I'd be ok with that :D

First two of serial#?
[doublepost=1497751685][/doublepost]

If it were me 100 percent unambiguously id keep the right the text looks good the left text looks sorta fuzzy

I feel like I'm at the optometrist. Lens 1 or lens 2? Lens 1 ... or 2? Now 2 ... or 3?

Serial # first two letters?
Both DM.

In fact, you don't need to turn the screen on to see variations (here from 2 10.5" in store) :
IMG_0407.JPG

It seems My black 10.5 and 2 I see in store are very close to each other, and different from the white I see in store, so I assume Apple choose a different coating or glass...

That said, the screen of my 10.5 seems to be better than the one from my iPad air 2, which is too cool.

That's the new anti reflection effect though, no?

Didn’t realize I was fake news now. Seriously though you can indeed see issues when the screen is slightly tilted as well when perpendicular. It’s harder to see on a photo perpendicular hence why the photo is slightly at an angle which exacerbates the issue. And if someone returns their iPad because mine has a color variation then they are stupid, no offense. No reason to accuse me of fake news and assault my senses with all caps lol. I’m not cnn.

The 2 iPads in the picture are 10.5", so I assume they both have a new anti reflective coating... new, but different to each other ?
Oh, sorry. I thought the black one had larger bezels. Need my coffee this morning! :)

These issues happen with almost every new Apple product, it has put me off buying new releases because the fun is ruined with the stress of trying to get what you paid for.

I'm onto 10.5 #2... the edge is less yellow than the first one, but it still drives me nuts.

How many times can I bring this into Apple and say that this screen sucks I need a new one? I've read some posts where people have brought in their iPad or iPhone 8 as many as 8 times. That seems nuts to me, but for th price they charge on these things it makes sense.

Here is mine DM. Little bit yellow at the bottom. The spots up right is my light :)

Just left the Apple Store from swapping mine. I had a DLX or whatever it was. Shadowy-yellow band that ran along the entire bottom bezel where the home button is. Swapped and luckily got a DMP model. Unfortunately, it too has a shadowy-yellow spot. It's actually even darker than the first. The spot is only in the bottom left corner though so I said to hell with it. I'm going to keep this one. Maybe I'll be lucky and that dark corner will go away. If not, I'm sure I'll be less annoyed with it in the coming weeks. (Returned the sleeve too. Beautiful, but not $130 beautiful.)

What did employees say when u told them you want to swap it for the edge ?

Well, I used to work at the store. So everyone there including management is very warm with me. However, for some magical reason, when I had iOS 11 on the first one and took a screen shot of an all white background, it actually showed the large shadowed bezel. Tried to recreate it this morning before I restored it and couldn't. So that helped my case when I showed them thumbnails of the screen shots. They could also see the shadow when I pulled this website up. Rep just said, "Ohhh, that's no good. You wanna swap it for another one and see how it looks? Cool." We even looked at this one together.

I saw the spot immediately but figured it's only one corner and it's only day one of being turned on. Didn't wanna be the guy that busted open 3-4-5 iPads and none of them satisfy me. So I ran with this one.

So.. was up last night using the 10.5 ( DLX ) and the blue light ( TT {true tone} and NS {night shift} off ) started bothering my eyes. Turned on NS ( slider 1/4th up from the coolest setting ) and looked great...

In landscape mode, iPad resting on the bed with the left side slightly titled up and right side slightly tilted down (following the contours of the mattress I suppose. iPad had no case ), a few minutes later, the right side of the screen ( screen in landscape mode, home button on right ) started looking more warm compared to the left. Flipped the iPad (Now home button on the left, landscape mode) and once again, left side (that was the right side previously) is now cool, right side (that was the left side) is now warm!

So, it doesn't seem like the screen is unevenly lit.. it's just that whenever in landscape mode, the right side ( doesn't matter what side the home button is ) is always warmer over the left! Same is true when in portrait mode.

Now, I can replicate this apparent abnormality in the following test scenarios :

TT - True Tone
NS - Night Shift

1 ) TT and NS : ON. Auto Brightness : ON
2 ) TT and NS : ON. Auto Brightness : OFF
3) TT : ON and NS : OFF. Auto Brightness : ON
4) TT : ON and NS :OFF. Auto Brightness : OFF
5) TT: OFF and NS : ON. Auto Brightness: ON
6) TT : OFF and NS :OFF. Auto Brightness : ON
7 ) TT : OFF and NS : OFF. Auto Brightness : OFF
8) TT, NS, Auto Brightness : OFF and brightness set to ANY level!

Looking at the iPad head on, at any angle and with any setting, the screen is completely even (Warm or cool)

Not sure what to do, so ordered another 256 LTE ( in silver this time ) from online, to be delivered on the 22nd.

Good on you. It's worth a shot. Hopefully the screen is better for you. I hate buying and swapping/exchanging stuff; but with a product being this expensive and something I use everyday, I feel like I should be as satisfied as I can within reason.

What you think? Keep?

Looks like my iPad. The little yellow at the bottom only became an issue if that was the only thing I was focusing on. After reading, surfing, and actually using the product, I totally forgot about the yellow area (very faint). I'll take the slight yellow hint versus a dead pixel, mushy button, or any other issue users notice with these devices.
