its a thought, but I'm doubtful it'll go away.

No longer have the units to find out anyways, too many hoops for $700

most recent 10.5 panel on right
Not entirely accurate, my pro 9.7 doesn't look pink like that on the left/its uniform but it has more contrast than 10.5, in surfing, and in videos the color is more rich while maintaining accuracy before anyone says the right is more accurate lol

And the 10.5 isn't brighter! its more legible outside by a hair, but all this talk of nits, and I don't see it!

I know that there are many who disagree with me, but I'm a big proponent of waiting 3-5 months after the release of an Apple product before buying it. That is the time it generally takes to work the kinks out of the initial batch leading up to release. Not defects per se, but they improve their calibration and tighten up the tolerances in the 3-5 months after release.

I recommend NOT to give up on the 10.5 Pro, but to wait Oct/Nov of this year. Not only will things improve, but there are sure to be sales for the holiday season.

In fact, you don't need to turn the screen on to see variations (here from 2 10.5" in store) :

It seems My black 10.5 and 2 I see in store are very close to each other, and different from the white I see in store, so I assume Apple choose a different coating or glass...

That said, the screen of my 10.5 seems to be better than the one from my iPad air 2, which is too cool.

This. WTF is Apple doing with using 2 different coatings for the same product?? This is the exact problem i'm having now. I got one like the lower pic that is more magenta/pink and it's throwing off all the colors. i'm looking at 3 different screens next to it and they all look neutral and the ipad 10.5 looks pinkish on all white/light gray content.

Just got a black 64gb wifi DM and it has the most uniform screen ever. It's my third one and my other 2 were DLs. All have the faint yellow band at bottom edge near the home button though.

However it's going back because there was glue comong off of some of the edges of the screen and the glass on same bottom edge was lifting up. Shame.

This is disappointing. I've never had an issue with any of my other iPads that I've owned throughout the years. Or I just never paid attention. Now it seems like my arguably favorite one (10.5) is having a hell of a time with screens. Mine isn't completely even, but if I kept going back I'd have ultimately returned it and been iPad-less for a while.

I back this post. Not necessarily because of your sale prices comment, Mainly my experiences are similar with all of my Apple devices I have purchased from day one releases. I have had iPhones, Apple watches, iPads, etc., they some have had some type of issue from day one purchases, where as later purchases I have had zero issues. The concern is, is that the manufacture is working at an accelerated pace to push as many units out as possible due to the initial demand.

My theory is, once the iPhone becomes closer to launch, the iPad will likely slow down with the surge purchases around that timeframe before the holidays gear up again.

other theory: Apple does inspect more units to ensure QC and avoid a PR-nightmare like "xxx-gate" right post launch - so the initial batch should be better controlled AND all machines were set up with the ideal tolerances when production started. Later on during production is when QC slips and some machines might not be perfectly calibrated...

That's an interesting theory but I haven't seen that in practice. The quality of Apple products IMPROVES over the timespan that the product is manufactured, not worsens. My statement was based on first-hand experience with PC manufacturing. I know that this may not transfer over to how Apple does things.

Ended up returning mine. As always customer service was great. They asked for contact info for Apple to contact me as they want to track issues with new devices. I feel like there is an issue with the coating on the device because the slightest tilt in screen makes a HUGE difference which it shouldn't. Just my 2 cents. I'll buy another one next month once they figure out the issue.

do you think Apple gets enough "pink'ish" complains, identifies the coating as the issue, does testing, changes coating chemicals, suppliers, provides factories with new coating materials, updates process and then ships improved iPads with new coating to US while the old ones are already sold so the new ones hit the shelves.... all within 4 weeks ? :D:D

hahah just let people believe in that, it makes them feel better :p

I just received my SG model today. Serial number starts with DLX and the screen appears to be fine.

I voted "it doesn't bother me" but I'm not honestly even sure it exists, and it hurts my eyes to keep looking for it.

Is this an issue on 12.9" models?

I noticed the slight yellow hint on the bottom goes away if True Tone isn't enabled. Is TT the culprit with the yellowish tint?

Curious what you find. Tempted to upgrade to the 512GB, maybe getting a better screen as a bonus. Doesn't bug me that much but eh.. its there.

Yea, I’ll post my findings tomorrow.. Really wanna give it a thorough comparison.. :)

5x 10.5 iPads here (DL and DM) + 4x DLs at the apple store all had the yellow band at the bottom.

Do not replace for that if there arent any other issues.
