S4 user here. Time, calendar, Fitness tracking and timers is all I use it for. The iOS dependency is what annoys me about these devices. You can be blocked from upgrading watchOS if you’re iPhone isn’t able to run the required iOS version. It’s basically a remote iPhone screen.

Want better battery life? Turn off wifi. The watch defaults to Bluetooth to use your iPhone connection 99% of the time and you probably have your phone within 10m of you 99% of the time you’re wearing it.
I wish you could pair AW straight off an iPad or Mac. An iPhone screen is too small for fitness videos but you don't have the ability to play/pause videos from Apple watch on devices other than the Apple TV which really limits usability.

Oh the Drama!! 😱😅
My Ultra 2 works just fine to keep the record of swimming laps everyday, it has almost 3 yrs.
Probably will buy the Ultra 4 if the prices won't go too high, or exchange it for a regular 12, 46 mm.
It all depends what's new in this new Gen

Don't buy apple watch or iPhone period. The good times are gone it's same as android these days. Just android is not as locked down. Using my fold with garmin fenix 8. If you train and care for training metrics, it's the best. Also battery life is 20-30 days. So there's that. I sure hope apple makes a comeback but highly doubtful it's all about greed. Maximum profit for bare minimum effort. I mean still notch and foldable is coming this year 1st gen. While samsung is on their 8th foldable this year. And im not a samsung fan i'll ditch them this year as well I think. Vote with your wallet people only thing these greedy muppets ulderstand.

You’re going to need a better pitch than that if you want me to stop using iOS, which I’ve been using since v1.1 and enjoy, and switch to Android, which is infuriating to use and is a very fragmented ecosystem.

Android isn't THAT bad anymore. It has its quirks and issues, of course, but despite the fragmentation of brands and skins or whatever, it's still the same thing underneath. It reminds me of a Linux distro: same house, different paint. Regardless, I prefer iOS over it these days due to the ecosystem and cohesion. I have a lot of Google/android things in my house but they all have their own respective kinks.

That’s damning it with faint praise.

We have an Android TV at church and it is a colossal pain to do anything on at all. It’s as if the design priority was to be as user hostile as possible.

I’m sure Linux is a bit better than it was back when I used to use it, but I have no desire to go back there either.

Just use home-assistant.io don't get locked down. And neither android or iOS is perfect. I just use the products that are good. it's nice to be able to move between both eco systems. Mac mini pro, apple tv is nice and so is iPad pro. Notch on a macbook is unforgivable though. Still have my pre notch macbook pro which I refuse to upgrade because of that.

The notch is annoying, sure, and I hope by the time I eventually need a new laptop, if I ever need a new laptop, it won't have one, but it's nowhere near a deal-breaker for me, it's still several orders of magnitude better than using Windows. I'm not locked in to the Apple ecosystem, I'm here by choice. If I start to dislike it, I'll leave. Simple. Thing is though, there is nothing I've seen that is even remotely close to Apple's hardware or to macOS/iOS/iPadOS in my estimation.

I've never owned the Apple Watch. Coz the battery life is so short. The watch is relatively expensive. And the watch is far too large.

My Casio is $15 and runs for a decade per charge, small and light.
I never understood the battery life complaint. I've had the Series 0, 3, 4, 5, 8 and now on 10. It's never not made it thru the day.

I charge the watch at night as I charge my phone.

Do you not charge your phone when you go to sleep? Same goes for the watch for 99% of people.

If there was a smart phone I didn't need to charge every night I would switch in a heartbeat. Charging my watch once or twice a month is so much better than every night. Especially if you care about sleep metrics.

I tried to sleep with my watch to try this stuff out. I just can't with something this thick on my wrist. Those tracking rings make so much more sense for that.

I think the 2 situations are a bit different. The phone can be turned off at night or longer and the battery level will hardly be affected. I turn my phone off when not needed or used. Even in standby mode the phone will keep a charge for many days.

The watch is not designed to be turned off (powered down) at all. The watch quickly loses battery in a day or so when not used and sitting on a shelf. So I do think watch battery improvement is in order.

If Apple could get close to Garmin battery life...

No one is compelling you to get all of them. I’m still wearing my Series 2.
That is pretty impressive.

I’ll be honest, I’d upgrade if I could afford to, but it’s still doing its job recording walks, running timers, helping triage notifications, and telling the time just fine.
I love it. I have a technology addiction and wish I could be as measured.

That's what I love about tech. We all have different needs and all do different things with them. None are wrong.

An Apple Watch that is powered down doesn't lose battery hardly at all. I have several older models that I haven't found a home for & all of them will last at a minimum 3 months before they need to be recharged.

I realize that. My point is many people turn off their phone when not in use or needed (I do). Hardly anyone does that with their Apple Watch. And even so, an iPhone in standby mode will not lose battery nearly as fast as the watch.
