yes but....Android

There's no question that there are some really nice phones out there, much better innovations than the iPhone. But as long as they are running that god awful OS it's a no go. I briefly tried it with the Note 7 last year and came running back *shudders*

Android is completely fine as long as the phone is $400 or cheaper. The software just doesn't work well enough for an $800 phone. To me it feels like it's in constant beta testing. I'm speaking from experience with a total of about 3 years with Android. I've tried to switch to Android twice. Just switch last year to the Pixel. This year I'm switching back to Apple with the iPhone X.
All my own opinion of course. Switch to Android if you want try it out and form your own opinion.

I dunno why people keep acting like Android and iOS are interchangeable. People don't just swap out OS's.

They are interchangeable and people swap out OS's all the time. I just changed job's and we were all Mac all the time at my last job here we're all Windows all the time, I just swapped out my OS. Heck I swap OS's when I go from my Chromebook to my Linux desktop, to my Android phone all in one day.

Anecdotal evidence is not evidence. I also swap out all the time. My usage does not mirror most people's however. Most folks are comfortable within the ecosystem they use, and honestly don't care that much to change because the stuff we agonize over on this forum isn't anything most people ever consider.

Most people I know just use whatever is default in terms of apps and could use either OS.

Most I know don't care and stick with whatever they've spent time and money on. They don't want the hassle of rebuying all the apps they had on their current OS. Then throw stuff like iMessage into the mix, and it's just not a small deal to jump ship as easily as we suggest it is.

Most do so out of ignorance. Samsung has just recently become a household name in the smartphone market not to long ago. Apple has been that since the beginning. Unlike years ago, nowadays the average consumer knows about every Samsung release, it's familiar to them. I've never heard so many iPhone users talk about moving to Samsung smartphones until this year.

Apple is still a smart company. They know the youth still control the sales trends. Coming up with animojis was brilliant, and a great way to keep the youth interested in iPhones. When you think of phones like the LG V30, it's marketed like a mature person's device. Samsung markets their devices as the cutting edge of technology, but doesn't grab the youth the way the Apple's iPhone does. And Samsung probably won't until Google or Samsung themselves come up with a great alternative to iMessage and other iCloud features. Things are looking better every year for both Samsung and Google's Android though.

Haha, it's under the iPhone section on a Appe website. And I am in the alternative section? Talk about laughable. Anyway, I have no issue with Android based hardware as it is pretty impressive, but I just don't see anyone that prefers iOS/interested in the X would make the switch to the S9 when all it is is a knockoff X running an OS that users that want the X don't prefer. Lastly, I don't assert my opinion as fact, it is simply my opinion.
Yes because we know what the S9 is going to be and what it will look like now

I don't see why it would want to rip off the iPhone X. Samsung have their own design language and everything in the iPhone X apart from the notch and the animojis Samsung already have and have had.

I agree. The only reason I ever tried android in the first place was because my iPhone 4 was stolen. The reason why I'm willing to try it again is because I used it for 2.5 years and I've invested some money into it and know my way around the OS.

Is it really worth talking about the S9 this early? It's normal release window is like March/April. Many months to go tbh. I would rather buy the S8 at a huge steep discount than the S9 at full retail price at launch, just saying.

No. It’s an attempt to dissuade people, how ever few, from buying a phone that isn’t yet released but is a known quantity, versus one that won’t be released for 6 months and not really known about in anything like concrete terms for at least 4 months.

What’s up with that? Are there many posters on Google/Samsung forums telling people not to buy the S9 because the iPhone XI is coming?

Never understood it. I certainly don’t go post on those forums in such a way.

I'm thinking about it. I need to see what the specs will be. I want the V30 but if band 71 comes in the S9 and it's got a headphone jack, 6gb of RAM, good price etc I'll be considering it. I'm not rushing to get a new phone this year, not after my luck last year.

So right about the time when everyone finally gets their iPhone X pre-order!

I'm half kidding.

Seriously though, I started with Android. So going back isn't a matter of if, it's a when and which device.

Unfortunately I think you’re half right. Samsung are used to producing their current top end OLED screens only in their top end S* and Note screens. The kind of volumes that Apple will need will dwarf that.

For many people it's a matter of how Apple price their devices. If this is a start or even bigger prices or not.

Did you even read the OP? There are rumors that Samsung will release the S9 much earlier than usual. There might be only 3-4 months of a difference in release dates between the iPhone X and Galaxy S9. The S9 could be groundbreaking, or maybe not. Advising people to wait is not a big deal, nor is anyone obligated to listen.

Actually, a ton of posters gave their opinion to wait until the iPhone X was announced before they get the Note 8. Guess what? Nobody got offended.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

That's a scary thought that people pre-ordering in Nov won't get a phone until a quarter of the way through next year because of supply issues.

“Wait on an imaginary thing. It might be better, despite a track record of being slower, jankier and not updated regularly, for the last decade. It’s a sure thing”

I just shared my thoughts on it being too early to discuss the S9. Prices will be expensive, but I would personally buy the S8 over that at a steep discount. Whatever people do with their money is their decision. I can only make suggestions or recommendations. If people want the S9 from this early on, feel free to go for it.

Including Apple's current implementation of Face ID (IR face mapping)?
