Yes. That is one of the reasons why I go to a physical Apple Store for a trade in vs sending it in through the ups/fed ex.
I am a bit under the weather so I want to be sure I am following correctly. If I go to an Apple store with my Mac, they can instantly tell me the value and do the trade right there and then. When you pay, do you pay full price then later receive a refund for the value of your original computer traded in or, do they charge you the cost of the new Mac minus the worth of your trade in Mac? I ask as I may do this but I would have to travel a fair distance to get to an Apple store.

The second one; although you can also apply trade-in value to a recent (14 days) purchase online or in-store. Helpful if say, you want to get home delivery, transfer data etc & later do the trade.

Very good to know. Thanks and hope to make the long trip to the Apple store in the future.

I just had the same thing happen with an iPad air. Didn't realize you could take it to the store (we even did store pick up of the new iPad mini and MacBook air we purchased! live and learn!) sent in a perfect iPad air (this thing was barely used as my husband hated the size what he wanted it for and was in a case on his desk!). I did forget to take the screen protector off. I was shocked when I got the email. I called and the CS rep looked at the photos and said she didn't see anything wrong and submitted to the warehouse to take off the screen protector and re-evaluate. within a couple hours I had an email saying investigation was complete and I'm getting my refund to my original payment.

Next time I'll take it to the store as advised by her and this thread!

I wish we had an Apple Store in Gothenburg, Sweden, but we don't.
Using Apple-trade-in here, ah well it's been a real mess when I want to trade in my iPad mini 5.
The company Apple use, had the wrong addresses, that I have no idea what they got from - Apple do have the right adress, and have never sent anything to a wrong place, but the trade-in company is a real mess.

But iPad mini is a small device, so I think I go for a trade-in down at the city tomorrow at a Apple-reseller instead.
Big stuff like the earlier iMac, I rather have it go back to Apple, or their trade-in company.

The most recent communivation I've had with the company that manage the trade-inns for Apple reveals mor and more incompitense as it goes on.
I have never, ever, came in contact witn such incompetence in any company ever before!

As I said earlier, it's about my iPad mini 5, so it's easy to take down to the city here and trade it in to any of those who offer trade-in here.
But as I plan to buy either buy a new iPad mini with M-chip, if they release one, or an iPad Air which alteady have M2, so I'll wait until after the event. So I can buy that in the store here maybe as well.
The value might go down for my mini 5, but they also pay better on those places/stored in my city.

Sum summariun, I hope with God, any diety, and all the Goddesse's, that I never have to use the trade- in Apple uses here as their choice to trade-in with them, ever again!
With all this unbelieavable and totally lack of service I've experienced now, I do recall all went smooth at 2022, with the same company when I traded in my iMac 2013. As that was a larger device, I'm even more grateful that it did in retrospect - with this horrific experience.

Honestly, the Mini is popular, just see if you can find someone in your area who takes it off your hands for cash. That will be at least as much as the trade-in would have been and if you don't ask for more money then they'll likely get a good deal. Trade-ins are supposed to be convenient, if that isn't the case for you then there's not much of a point.

It wont be a problem to get rid of thr mini.
Larger Electronic Stores here offer more then Apple's trade-in do - and one store have a great topped trade-in offer, if you buy a new device at the same time. So I will wait and see if Apple release the iPad mini 7 at the next event, and if it have M-chip, then I'll buy that. If not, I'll buy the latest Air, that do have it.
Selling it privately, sure, it wouldn't be a problem, but it just takes more time.
