Anybody tried with the Satechi TB4 Dock ?
SATECHI Dock Multiport Thunderbolt 4, 16 Ports - Charge À 96W, Jusqu'À 4 Écrans 4K/60Hz, Port USB-C 10Gb/S, 5 Ports USB A, Fente pour Micro/SD Uhs-II, Prise Jack, Ethernet 2.5Gb/S pour Mac/Windows https://amzn.eu/d/fkP8M3C

I’m curious about it, if I plug the CM adapter in one of the TB4 port will it work ?

Damn, English is not my native language... Downloaded DP to HDMI firmware and flashed it to Cable Matters 201388-a usb-c adapter. There is no picture output anymore and flash tool says:

Is my new adapter bricked now or is there a way to reflash it?

Download the other one from the Microsoft Store. With the one they sent I had the same error but worked perfectly with the one from the MS Store.

Has anyone encountered improvements on the M1 Pro macOS 14.2.1 over macOS 14.0 in regards to the wake issue? @AironMan said not to update to 14.1, is 14.2.1 bug free?

Also would you all generally suggest updating to 14.2.1 over 14.0?

14.1+ only breaks HDR. I f u don't need HDR with 4k@120hz 4:4:4 u can go for that. MacOS 14.x has improvements overall also on standby issues on my side.

For anyone with Standby issues: U can also use original Firmware where EDID improvements are not included. So u can do own things with EDID and use BetterDisplay to implement things. I think with that can prevent some standby issues.

The original Firmware for VMM7100 without modification are attached and also an EDID where DP-Transportstream+force RGB is enabled and also another one where only DP-Transportstream is enabled

Just to double check, is there any downside regarding actual image quality and/or input lag using this type-c to hdmi method vs. using 4k120 over hdmi 2.1?

Hey everyone,

After all the troubleshooting, workarounds and everything else I've tried to combat the issue with the monitor not having a signal after waking the Mac, I decided to go with a CM usb-c to Displayport w/ PD adapter. Sure enough, the monitor now wakes as expected, everytime without issue. Additionally, VRR is enabled (48hz - 120hz).

If you do have access to DisplayPort on your monitor/TV, I highly recommend going this route. If you're stuck with HDMI only, best of luck, and I hope that Apple finally gets around to resolving the issue. I really think it has to do with the translation of DisplayPort to HDMI occurring on the adapter, but that's questionable as it works fine with my Windows 10 (work) computer (no wake issues).

Only thing that sucks about going with the usb-c to DisplayPort w/ PD adapter is I now only get 87W of power from my Mac's 96W power supply, as opposed to 94W with the CM 201428 usb-c to HDMI adapter. I also no longer get the 144hz option (only up to 120hz) but I honestly can't tell the difference between the two.

For the record, my setup is a 14" MBP M1 Max 10/32 64gb(mem) to Samsung Neo G9 QLED 49" (5120x1440)

I'm having trouble, but only if I try to turn off the internal display on my Macbook Pro (M1). If I have the lid open and the internal display on, I'm able to get 4k@120Hz no problem...

If I close the laptop, or just leave it open and use BetterDisplay to deactivate the internal display, the I just get a flashing blank screen while my TV tries to get the signal.

In my case, I'm using a Caldigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock with the CableMatters DP to HDMI 1.2 adapter (VMM7100), flashed.

Has anyone else seen anything similar and have any ideas how to fix it?

Hi! I've already used the method listed here to get 4K 120 in my LG C2 (I'm using a Macbook Air M1).

Yesterday Nvidia announced they're going to bring VRR functions to Geforce Now, so I started wondering if with this setup it's possible to activate the VRR capabilities of my TV. Does anyone know?
what method? im running this same setup and was wondering

Hey everyone. I believe I have a new Anker adapter to add to the compatibility list, Anker 556. I got this to work by following the VMM6100 instructions, even though the hub showed as VMM6200 in VmmDPTool64. This did require another device with USB-C ALT DP. I haven't noticed any lost functionality using the 6100 firmware on a 6200. See my single-wire setup below and let me know if there's anything I should test to confirm this works correctly.

My setup
- M1 Macbook Pro
- Anker 556 USB-C HUB 8-in-1
- LG C3
- 4k, HDR 10bit, 120 Hz
- Amazon Basics 48 gbp/s HDMI

I still can't get HDR and HiDPI to be enabled at the same time, but I haven't been able to do this with any other adapters either. Please let me know if there's a way to do this.

Hi,

I have the Cable Matters VMM7100 with the new chip (201388-A) and it has been working great. I have 4k@120Hz 4:4:4 on my LG CX. Here's the thing: I also have a soundbar connected to the tv. My Macbook M1 Pro would see multi channel connected (5.1 in Sound / Midi settings) and it was working properly.

Since MacOS update few days ago I only get 2 channels stereo. If I plug the HDMI cable in the native HDMI port on the Macbook I get full 5.1 surround sound. Seems like it's the adapter that's messing up.

Anyone else got this same problem or anyone that has an idea what I can try to solve this?

Thanks.

EDIT: I'm on Sonoma 14.2.1

I will try to experiment with different options on BetterDisplay. I wasn't able to locate specifically anything which will relate to the 'wakeup function' in BetterDisplay, but that's fine - I will keep looking and trying. I am planning also to look closer on the EDID and maybe experiment with different settings.

When I was searching through different forums, I found many different, but similar topics describing same issue. It seems that there is something not entirely correct between (specifically) LG screens (both TV's and monitors) and Apple equipment. That was at least conclusion for some of those threads.

In the meantime, I applied the most trivial work-around. I am shutting down completely my Mac when I finish my work in the evening (when I know I won't need it that day), and turning it on in the morning. Fortunately, when the Mac powers-up, the issue with screen not waking up (no signal going through usb c to HDMI adapter) isn't present. Image appears instantly on the TV. Pressing one button each day is (for me) acceptable solution and price for having much better image.

Once again, really appreciate all your time and effort put into this topic!
Interestingly, the wake-up works fine (after several hours of inactivity), for 3rd day in a row. I haven't modified anything nor updating macOS. I saw that my LG C2 was updating its firmware few days ago, so that is my only suspicion, that something had been changed there, which now solved the problem for me.

Hi everyone, I have a MacBook Pro M1 Pro 14 and an LG C1, currently which adapter do you recommend for a faster plug and play solution?

Hi all,

first of all, thanks for the support. I was able to flash my adapter and make it work.

I ask for your help for a small issue I'm facing. I have the following setup:

Caldigit ts4: Adapter connected to it
Cable matters 201388-A
Green cable 2 meters HDMI 2.1 certified.
MacBook Pro 16" m3
MacBook Pro 16" m1
MacBook Air m1

The M1s work flawlessly. The M3 almost.... When I try to set 1440p 120hz the HDR toggle disappears. I can do the rest of the resolutions with 120hz and HDR but 1440p has to be without HDR or with lower HZ (100hz 1440p and HDR work well).

I've searched in this thread but didn't find any answer. Any insights?

I can also confirm that the Ugreen Revodok Max 213 dock also works at 120hz.

Thanks!

Got the LG C3 paired with the m1 macbook pro max chip and i'm getting the annoying wake issue using the cablematters adapter with VMM7100 firmware in clamshell mode. I'm currently running it with their instructions at 7.02.112 and everything works fine besides that. What can I do about the the standby issue? Running the latest 14.2.1 OS if that matters

Im not sure but I have same problems with cablematters adapter even with edid changes proposed in earlier posts, and i didnt have it with other adapter before or maybe some newer lg update broke it.

I feel like people need to keep reporting the wake issue to CableMatters. I tried, but got "well I guess your LG C2 is not fully compatible, you can revert the firmware or return for a refund".

From what I saw in the debug logs, when the LG enters deep sleep, the VM7100 goes kind of crazy logging errors, and eventually "crashes" the interface on the DP side when left for too long.

My workaround has been to reset the VMM7100 chip from the USB interface before powering on the LGs. It's nasty as hell but works perfectly. I reverse engineered the "Reset" button in the VMMHidtool to do that and made a Mac utility that does the same. https://github.com/djrobx/USBResetter. Would still greatly prefer a proper firmware fix.

Hi guys, I just got wind of the VMM7100 adapter and got one as soon as possible. The only problem: I don't have a Windows laptop in reach and I don't know anyone who has a moderate system with a USB-C port to flash the adapter. Is there an Mac-compatible firmware tool that can help me do the thing without a Windows machine?

#update

Nevermind, I fixed it by downloading the "VmmHIDTool" through the Microsoft store which I downloaded inside Parallels. Flashed everything and now it works! 4K@ 120Hz nice one 👌
