Guys, I've updated BetterDisplay (I own a Pro license) but every time I wake my Mac, it seems I have to upload and apply my altered EDID for 4k/120hz to show up. What gives? I use Configuration Protection but I feel like I am missing a very specific setting here...
U have to set "auto apply" on EDID settings.

Thank you, where would I find that setting exactly? The menu is quite extensive haha...

U have to switch to 60hz then to 120hz back. Then u will get YCBCR 4:4:4 8b 4L8 SDR but this is also really bad. HDR with HiDPI is still not work.

Are the standby problem fixed on your side? Does anybody else can confirm that this new firmware does not work good in case of used data lines ? @stevemr123

Hi, I updated the firmware and things seem all right. But the no signal issue does not occur that often (+ we generally don't use the mini+TV setup that much) so I cannot exactly confirm whether this fixes the problem or not. There was no issue so far - but if it happens again, I'll let you know.

The latest firmware (from a couple of days ago) for 201388-A still crashes on standby. Is CM going to update it like they did for the new "Cable Matters 201348"?

Thank you for your efforts, AironMan. After reviewing your latest updates, can I consider Cable Matters 201348 as the most suitable hardware at the moment?

Yes it's the first Hub that can be flashed directly. I can confirm that it works on my hardware. It would be perfect if others could test this on your devices so that we can get a better overall impression of this adapter.

Are there any changes in the firmware flashing steps for Cable Matters 201348? I noticed you mentioned, 'The how-to steps below are not updated with that new one.

This is the firmware I'm using and it crashed overnight, I assume when Mac went to sleep.

@AironMan - I had to downgrade the trusty old firmware (the one in the opening post for VMM7100) for my setup with a high refresh rate 4K display (GP27U) as 4K did not work with it beyond 60Hz. Did not investigate why though, probably something with the on-the-fly EDID editing works differently with this test firmware?

I am not sure either; this new beta firmware might have some bugs. I will downgrade too. For me it looks like it's bandwidth limited and don't use all lanes correctly.

CM will continue in fixing the standby issue. I will report when getting more information.

Hello, I contacted CableMatters about updating 201310 and they sent me the following. It is probably identical to what AironMan posted, but I can confirm that the attached file worked perfectly for upgrading my 201310 purchased last week from Amazon US, getting me HDR10 4k 120hz on my M2 Macbook.

Their support also confirmed that 201348 is discontinued in US: "The 201310-BLK is an upgraded version of the 201348-BLK, with a more advanced chipset(VMM7100) in it, and has the same USB, Ethernet, and HDMI ports."

Hello, after flashing the firmware here, I wanted to check the information after flashing, but mistakenly clicked 'reset board'. After that, my USB-C to HDMI device stopped working. I tried to look up the manual for this software, but couldn't find any useful information.Do you know how to fix this issue and make it work properly?

So that is two reports so far of the new CM 201310 working flawlessly.

Hopefully more people share their experiences. Could this finally be the solution that doesn't just end up as a cat-and-mouse game with Apple breaking things and CM needing to release firmware to fix it?

I hope so.

I seem to have bricked my very expensive adapter with VMM7100... It's a ugreen adapter (https://www.lulian.cn/product/968-cn.html)

I flashed it on my windows laptop via a usb 3.1 port, using the USB C - HDMI VMM7100 file. But after that the adapter seems to not work anymore for video output.

Trying to open the VMM tool results in:
- Using the VMM flash tool provided, the error message is "can not find synaptics dp hub ic"
- Using the VMM tool from Microsoft store, the error message is "Spyder chip is not connected"

Hoping to get some help here as I paid quite a hefty sum for the adapter 🥲🥲🥲
Hey... You may need to flash the DP version.
Please use the HID version vmmtool on microstore app store.
Only that version don't show "can not find synaptics dp hub ic"
And only that version can load the FW information.
I bought an anker and flash DP firmware... Now I bring my bricked adapter back to live....

After using the dongle (usb-c to hdmi) with a ton of issues. i.e. waking up, etc. The multiport adapter is working fantastic!!!! None of the problems I previously had are happening. I would just skip the dongle and go straight to the multiport unit. Unfortunately, the multiport usb C and standard usb ports on this unit do not support thunderbolt speeds, but what it does do, is support 120hz 4k without all the issues of the usb-c to hdmi unit. Thanks for the firmware. No more unplugging everyday or using third party software to reset.

HDR in combination with HiDPI is not working with 4k. But this is an Apple bug and will hopefully fixed in next macOS releases. U can also use macOS 14.0 because the HDR HDPI issue is only present since MacOS 14.1
