So who's got the windows version running through bootcamp? I'm wondering how my MBP will run it... It's 2.4GHZ/4GB/8600MGT

I'm on a 2.53 GHz UMBP with 4GB RAM and the 9400M - in the first area of the game (Castle) I found the game ran pretty well with medium settings and no AA. Next section, Osrtagard (?) and it goes to a crawl. I see that's a problem at least one other person has mentioned here, with a 'suggestion' that it could be a memory leak that would need to be patched.
My question: where do I direct my complaint to hopefully get some momentum behind such a patch? My system seems well clear of the minimum requirements that were advertised and the suggested systems on the GameTree page, so it seems I (and others with MBPs) are owed some degree of support - do I complain to Bioware or Transgaming?
Hi
I am a total newbie to Mac, just bought the iMac last week and I really enjoyi it, however I have a problem with this game.
When I start the game and want to login I cannot type the '@' in my email adress. I have tried the alt+' which works everywhere else. I have also tried to copy/paste the @ but it does not work.
Any ideas?
I am using the Apple Wireless keyboard.
Thanks in advance and merry Christmas
The good news is that the characters are transferable by copying the Characters directory.
The bad news is that the performance is noticeably worse. I use boot camp and a Mac Pro and have noticed significant slowdowns when entering new areas, such as the Denerim Market when running the Mac version on the same machine.
The other *really* bad news is that the sound crackles with my Bose USB speakers which I bought at the Apple store.
I've been trying to extract one piece of Microsoft software after the other from my life (and becoming much happier). The Exchange support in Snow Leopard works great, no more Entourage. Some day I'll never have to boot into Windows again, but for now, I'll be booting into it to play DOA...
One more note: this is the first time ever I played a game like this and immediately after finishing it, I started over. It really is incredible.
Is your "macbook" a pro and what model? What video card? Do you run other video intensive games without a problem? Is it getting hot during gameplay? ... which tends to be the culprit for lockups on a MBP. Macs do a terrible job with cooling management. The fans don't ramp up until things get pretty darn hot. Also, there are some models of MBP's that have had some issues with their Nvidia cards (I think the 8600 series). I only ask, because I have experienced system lockups before with my NVidia 8800GT and since replacing my card things have been good here. Also, the game runs very good on my 08 Mac Pro w/ ATI4870 at all high settings, with no lockups so I don't think its the game or Cider. I wouldn't expect to run on highest settings on a laptop, however, I also wouldn't expect system lockups unless the system was overheating. What a poor, awful port this is. I don't care what sort of mac gaming 'effort' they're making, if you charge people $50 for your game, make sure you test the POS out. I'm not just talking poor/terrible performance here, I'm talking about it freezing up during load screens (not to mention the bugs). I've already had to hard reboot my macbook 4 times because of this game (something I've never done before). I won't be buying another one of this company's products if this is the sort of playing experience I can expect.
If you want to base things on single postings, almost anything is "possible", though actually I have seen more than a single posting here indicating problems.
Which Bose USB speakers do you have? I have the Companion 5s and have the same problem. I used a 3.5mm and went from the line out on the back of my Mac Pro to my Speaker MP3 input on the controller. Made the change in preferences and sound works fine that way... also have been in direct contact with transgaming trying to help troubleshoot the issue with the Bose Speakers, so they are aware of the problem and are working on it.
JollyRogers,
Hutn is running this under a 8600m, so unless Ryanh856 has a lemon I can't see it being the issue.
Besides, he mentions that it locks up during the load screens, this is when the GPU has a light load and it's all on the CPU -- which now days runs much cooler than the GPU.
Anyways, it could be heating, if not that, my guess is memory which I've had a problem with on the Mac side, where as Warcraft 3 would lock up, but not Photoshop as an example.
Yes, I am using the Companion 5s as well. Is the sound quality comparable with your workaround?
8600... really... http://www.slashgear.com/apple-exte...arranty-for-overheating-macbook-pros-0145488/ Apple even extended the warranty because of it.
I even had an 8800 that worked great and would just lock up when surfing w/ safari.
Macbook Pro-2.26 ghz
Nvidia 9400m
4 gigs ram
Now I realize this graphics card isn't the best. Also, the game is not overheating at all. The laptop barely gets hot (about as hot as it gets when I'm using other applications) so heating is not the issue. As I said, it's the game, because it's freezing up during load screens. I've got the graphics on the lowest setting, and it's playable, but still framey and laggy. I just wish it ran well on the very lowest settings and was less buggy.
