I feel like I've mangled my case just trying to get this routing to work. Bummer. I'm now running dual Titans and am in the final throes of a monster rendering project. I've resigned myself to be the guy who run's his case open. :(

I was folding with dual titans overlooked to 1200+ and I definetely had to run with the side door off. Dropped temps at least by 5.

I just found out about this X5 booster last week and now I find a great installation thread! Just wondering, though, if getting custom cable will let me avoid clipping out any part of the case. Don't really want to do that. Also, would it be unwise to use a SATA splitter to provide 12v to the X5 for power-up signal and to run my SSD in optical bay 2?

No clipping of the case. You have to feed each wire individually through the opening in the back corner. Just disconnect each wire from the PCIe power plug, feed it though and connect back to another plug so no wires gets switched around.

Cool. Would this allow me to orient the X5 normally instead of backwards? Also, are there any eBay sellers or websites that you've been happy with who make custom PCI cables? Thanks~

Yeah. I think I mentioned to someone else already about the person I contacted on ebay. He's a great guy and did great work for a good price. It will just take a bit of digging through my history to find it lol.

He shipped me the wires custom cut to length and left one side of the connector undone with the pins already attached. Just feed them through and plug into the other connector.

I saw that OrangeSVTguy meant to give you this info to you as well, so I'll quote the post he left for me below.

Here's the ebay member and the orders I placed through him so you can gauge a price. I believe I had him make me 24" wires which are 16ga, 18ga is the minimum that is recommended I would have ran. I am in no way affiliated with him.

Excellent, thank you both. Funny, he's the same seller that came up first when I searched for "custom PCIe cable" in eBay. Thanks again!

Yeah, Octane is quite usable now. I'm rendering some BEAUTIFUL, shallow depth of field, ambient occlusion, HDRI-lit animations at about 20 seconds a frame. That makes up for the fact that Octane can't be network rendered out of Cinema 4D. The cherry on top is that I can render After Effects at the same time with no performance hit as it is normally CPU intensive and they're not competing for resources. Pretty cool.

Wow that is really really impressive.....I can only dream of using After Effects with dual GTX Titans...I'm only on After Effects CS5.5 but how does OpenGL render things out vs the CPU? Is the CPU still faster to use or can dual Titans pretty much take over the show at the same speed? It seams like that would be the case...regardless its all good stuff! Soon as I can I plan on looking at a 680 or a 690 in a Thunderbolt enclosure to use for rendering...AE just loves eating all your resources up (bad but very good too).

The Titans don't really impact AE, outside of freeing up resources so I can use AE at the same time as C4D. AE loves a high clock speed CPUs more than anything at this point. AE seems faster on my 3.33 12-core than my 3.1 16-core.

It's all NDA junk, unfortunately. I think February is when I can show some stuff. Sorry!

Totally understand... I just thought it would be cool to see something productive from it. The stuff on the octane site doesn't seem to show how far it can be pushed.

I'm pretty proud that I'm getting a look from it that is actually more painterly than photo-real. It's a well-known franchise but really fun to present in a different light...literally.

Now that I moved my SSD to a PCIe card to make room for a future aux PSU in the optical bay, I realized I won't be able to fit the X5 power card in any slots. The second GPU will cover the last one up. Is there a way around this without modding? Argh. Definitely not gonna cut the case at all, and want to keep the case closed, but not sure how I feel about tapping into the power cord lead... Not sure what my other options are.

Maybe put the SSDs in the 3.5" bays if they are not all occupied?

I could, but I'm just starting to get used to the nice speed boost. Opening and saving my 3D scenes has gotten faster and I don't want to go back :p

You were able to easily tap into the 120V mains? I don't want to start any fires.

I didn't do that. I drilled a hole in the back of the case for a mini plug. I kinda wished I had tapped into the stock PSU so there's only one power plug.

Oh, that's right. Now I'm remembering the pictures. Hmm, seems that's my only drill-free option.

Oh good idea. I'll check to see if my Velocity Solo has a spot for hole. Thanks!

Yeah, it was easy to modify Sonnet's plate (left).

Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to find out myself. Just found a lightly used GTX 770 Classified 4GB and pulled the trigger. I think combined with my existing Superclocked 670 4GB, that should equal out to 2 x 680s like the OP.

Bootup for dual gtx680

Hi. I am installing 2 gtx680 made for mac in my 5.1 and I am having a heck of a time trying to get it to boot constantly. Is there something I am missing?

I have scoured the internet for answers.

I have a xBooster and have followed pretty much everything else.

But it literally takes me 5-6 times booting up in order to get it to get past the grey screen with the apple. It just stays on that screen - even over night.

I do not have mavericks installed, I was avoiding this, due to so many apps on my mac, but I thought maybe I should try this.

Any help any ideas?? What have I overlooked. - I really like DR Stealths setup. I may attempt this. But not sure right now.

I bought a Juiced Box off of newegg to try as an alternative.

I have the FSP Booster X5 (off of eBay) and dual GTX 680s…one is an EVGA Mac Edition, the other a ASUS PC version (in SLI). It boots fine, just not to the normal Mac boot screen…straight to the login window. Mac side does not recognize the SLI, BootCamp/Win 7 does. I used a $2.99 SATA to Molex adapter (link) off of NewEgg.com. Put the Aux PSU into the lower optical drive bay slot (forwards), snapped in the adapter to the open SATA power connector, snaked the cables between the shelf & the back plane, plugged in the 2nd card and power cables…works fine, looks clean. Don't follow Dr. Stealth or ETC… that's just insane work and dangerous.

Cheers!

Today I wiped my Windows drive and reinstalled Bootcamp and Windows 8.1.

I can boot into OS 10.9 with both cards in Mac Pro 5,1 with no problem.

I cannot boot into Windows with both cards installed but can with one card.

Even setting the Windows drive as startup disk, just white screen. If I boot and option key for disk choice, just freezes when Windows drive is selected.

Basically, I'm at the same place I was Wednesday evening. I can work in Rhino and Octane with a single card but sure could use the additional power of that second card.

Any more suggestions?

For what its worth, I am attaching screen shot of Mac OS view of the cards.

Hi

I just installed 2 PNY GTX 680 (Flashed with EFI ROM Mac) on OSX Working good but i can't run both on Windows 8.1 freezes startup with white screen anybody is running good 2 cards in 8.1?
