What's a "magnifying glass"? Is that what you use regularly to read?I'm curious... do you own a car?
What do you do when it gets a scratch/dent/chip in it from a rock that flew out from some unknown person's car 100 ft in front of you?
Serious question.
5 phones returned? Wow!
If you do own a car did you spend 3 days going over it with a magnifying glass like you do your phones?
P.S.
Don't think I'm saying you don't have a right to be picky... it is a lot of money. All I'm saying is if you look hard enough you can probably find a flaw in each and every iPhone shipped.
Oh wait, did you find one that makes you happy? You obviously didn't look hard enough. There's a speck there somewhere. Find it.
I agree that it shouldn’t be there but I’ve been sucked down that rabbit hole before. Numerous exchanges, returns and rebuys. At a certain point it’s either not worth the time and hassle to have a “perfect” phone or it’s time to move on from Apple. Cause honestly their QC isn’t anything special (others seem to be better). It’s the customer service that sets them apart.
I'd exchange mine but I think I got pretty lucky with the display and my battery is 2789 mAh according to coconut battery.
Oh man, sorry about what you have. 50 miles is pretty far and your only choice is to call AppleCare. I can tell you though that the screens in all of the ones I exchanged were perfect so no great worries there.I have dust in the lower and upper camera as well. It doesn't appear to affect photos (hopefully it doesn't in the future either). The nearest Apple Store is 50 miles away and I hate returning things. I'll probably just stick with this one because I like the screen. I've had issues with OLEDs in the past where the whites aren't consistent;View attachment 732361 one side might have a yellow/greenish hue compared to the other.

First post here, long time lurker for years though.
The iPhone X is my 5th iPhone, first iPhone was the 3G. I’ve also got dust in my bottom camera lense after less than 48 hours usage. Contacted Apple live chat they’d never heard of the issue. Got an Apple Store appointment on Tuesday so hoping for an exchange. I’ve never had to exchange an iPhone before.
Anybody else had luck exchanging their iPhone X?
Dust on both lens. Went to my local Apple Store and they have one unit left. Replaced and still dusts inside. Just finished chatting with Apple Support and they are sending me a box to ship my iPhone to technician. Hopefully my 2nd replacement is dust free.
Was that only one unit left available for replacements? I think I read here they do keep brand new replacements in stock for situations like this?
I think after reading the OP has replaced theirs a few times and reading your post I will open it in store with staff so if there are any issues on the 2nd, I’ll get another one.
Yeah but since I purchased mine from Verizon, I can’t get a brand new sealed replacement
Got mine on the launch day and noticed today that my pictures have a blurry spot on them when taking pictures in white/bright environment, and what do I know, when looking at the rear camera then there are small white specs under the glass. Pretty bummed.
Thanks for proving to us that the small dust specks do affect photos somehow. Although not immediately noticeable unless you examine further, it is a problem.
ADDITIONAL INFO: Thank goodness all is still going well with my last replacement so I'm happy!
Upon studying this further, I think I have a potential suspect (or suspects). If you notice, the flash unit that is between the lenses is not a sealed part but is neatly tucked around a cutout. The same thing with the tiny microphone. Those cutouts which are exposed to elements, like wind, can potentially push dust specs in or ruffle ones that may already be inside the camera assembly. Now I would assume there's some kind of seal around these holes to prevent this from happening but different assemblers might be putting different amounts of seal per phone.
Again, this is just my speculation until someone out there can confirm or show us the insides of these assemblies. I wonder if iFixit has done it yet...hmm...
Got this and from the looks of it, my suspicions might be true. What do you think?:

Not acceptable indeed. Good luck on your replacement.I ordered via Verizon and will go to their store (corporate) today after work and have them send me a new unit ... a hair under the lens cover is clearly not acceptable
Check out my post #40. I didn't even notice the dust before I spotted the blurry blob on my picture. If it wouldn't be visible in the pictures then I wouldn't give a damn. Upper camera is quite dusty, the lower one doesn't have a spec on it.Take a close look at the photo in comment #29, dust particles are at the edge of bezel and not on the lens, should have no effect on your photos.
