I downloaded both and really like them. I think I'm going to be moving to Dyrii. :)

Thanks! I had trouble understanding the advantages of journal apps over online platforms that also had apps and am glad I asked. I felt a little silly asking, but it's much clearer to me now. By the way, I love that you guys added Siri integration! I think you are the only journaling app I've seen to do that and that alone was a HUGE plus to me.

Consider me a future subscriber. :)

Moved to a paid subscription today. Can't wait for updates to apps on both platforms. Hopefully macOS app also features auto text correction soon.

I'm having some trouble with the Siri feature. If I ask Siri to post something specific to the journal using the phrasing in the directions the app is opened but no entry is created. Is there something else I need to do? She is "hearing" me correctly.

I'm still using Dyrri on a daily basis and this never happened when I used DayOne. The reason for the sustained diary keeping is down to Apple Pencil on iPad Pro 10.5. So all is good, however, writing in longhand entails using 'Sketch' mode and so after saving an entry the app acknowledges one post but '0' words. OK, no big issue but I do look forward to being able to write, edit, append, erase and correct. Subscription equals development, so I live in hope. Meanwhile diarying is sustained and that's what matters.

Sorry, I missed responding to this comment. One of our roadmap features related to sketch is handwriting to text translation using machine learning. With this feature, we hope to store both the handwritten data as well as the converted text and use the converted text for searches and tracking word counts. This will initially work only with English language. We don’t have an ETA for this feature yet but I will keep you posted.

Here is how Siri right now works with Dyrii.

  1. Siri first checks if the user is trying to create a note in Dyrii app.
  2. If Siri detects the Dyrii app intent but not the note creation intend then it will not know what the user is trying to do with Dyrii app. In this case it will directly open the app.
  3. If Siri determines that the user is really trying to add a note in Dyrii app, then it will look for title and body content in your provided command. If not found, it will ask user to provide the body of the note content. Title is optional so Siri will ignore absense of title. Once the user provides the body content, Siri translates it and then posts it into Dyrii and it also shows a confirmation screen within same Siri conversational UI confirming the note has been saved.
From your comments, it looks like you are stuck on step 2. Try the following command and tell me how Siri responds to this.

“Create a note in Dyrii Journal”

Please provide screenshot of response if possible.

With the newest version of DYRII now released, it is the Journal app I’ve been waiting for! The glitches I had encountered as a Premium user have been fixed. Location and Weather now work flawlessly. And iCloud syncing continues to run smoothly. You couldn’t ask for a better means of journaling!

Another great update. It's great I can now go back an edit a diary entry written in long-hand (Sketch), this really is a bonuse for me. I seem to have lost the ability to add a 'title' to a 'sketch' which I could do prior to this update. Talking about the iOS version here. Hopefully this ability to append a title to a sketch will return in a future update. Meanwhile Dyrii developers are one of just a handful I really appreciate for the level of commitment they demonstrate.

The feature to add title is still present under entry > edit. The sketch edit option resides in a different area under the image enlarge view and that allows you to edit an existing sketch page.

Both are labeled as edit but one if entry level and other is sketch page level. The title option is present under the first one.

Hello,
I just discovered Dyrii and this thread as I was searching a replacement for DayOne, and I have a question for you:
I have very basic needs for a journal application, and I used DayOne "classic" because it was not subscription based, private (i.e. had a code protection) , worked on both iOS and MacOS, and could sync using dropbox. Now that the old dropbox API have been retired, Dayone Classic can't sync with dropbox anymore making it useless for me. As I want to share my journal with other people who are not using my iCloud, and let them add entries too, I think dropbox (shared) is a better option for syncing in this case.
Thus my question for you: is there any plan for Dyrii to add dropbox syncing, in which case I'd probably accept to pay a subscription.
Thanks, and keep up the good work!

I can tell you this. We want to build sharing feature that allows families to have one folder/board to post their shared entries. But we want to do this securely and Apple iCloud has a feature that could enable us to do this (similar to Apple Notes sharing). But the limitation to that would be other users on Android won't be able to take advantage.

Right now Dropbox, doesn't have a datastore storage option (or something similar to their Paper product line backend), which is what we would need to support analytics, selective sync etc. So, at this point, we are evaluating all options.
[doublepost=1510848049][/doublepost]FYI, we are planning to roll out another macOS update this week with following fixes:

  • New: Added an option under preferences to not add location information automatically while creating entries.
  • Resolved an issue that caused the first line to become title irrespective of user selection while importing from DayOne Classic.
  • Resolved an issue that caused 24-hour time formats to not appear despite macOS system locale settings.
  • Reduced page margins and optimized font size while printing/exporting entries.
