No issues for me. My 15PM heats up in the same way my 14PM did—while taking many videos. I’m very happy with the lighter weight and thinner bezels and I’ve been happy with the camera for my purposes.

Certainly nothing about it is a huge upgrade from my 14PM but I was already well aware that would be the case, as I have a brain, and I knew I was upgrading from a one year old phone because I wanted the shiny new toy.

I remember when I got my 11 Pro Max it got hot as hell when first setting it up as it was transferring data and installing apps. In fact I had to take the case off because it was running so hot it was saying "iPhone will continue restoring when it has cooled down."

This is NOTHING NEW, iPhones have always run hot during setup and restore because they're doing so much.

I think I remember my 7 Plus doing it too, even.

Also, the phone feeling hotter means it has better thermals as it's dissipating more of the heat to the outside.

+1 for zero issues

Loving this upgrade
My wife is upgrading from the 11 Pro Max 256GB Space Gray to a 15 Pro Max 512GB Natural Titanium. Even though I'm upgrading from the iPhone 14 Pro Max 512GB in Space Black, getting the iPhone 15 Pro Max 512GB in Natural Titanium will still be worth it.

It's really not...do you have the 15 Pro? I do, and the first two days the phone got much warmer than any phone I've had yet (and I've had a new phone every year). It definitely wasn't "burning" as some put it, but it really got very warm to the point I felt something was wrong.

Interestingly, I broke my phone 2 days after I got it and the replacement hasn't done this.
Did you set up the second phone the exact same way? Same apps used? I don’t have iOS 17 installed yet, so I don’t know if there was an update released yet.

My phone was getting warm under conditions my 14 Pro wouldn’t, but disabling Background App Refresh on Instagram and Threads has fixed that issue for me.

No complaints or issues otherwise.
Thank you so much for this information. 🙏 I didn't know I could disable it.

I understand your concerns but, as you said, it’s not an “overheating issue“;

Nothing to be worried about Apple’s engineering this year.
I switch phones very often. They always get hot during the set up process. Sometimes really hot. It's normal.

Very good overall. Only had to charge it twice since release day (I don't use social media apps). Compared to my 13 Pro Max, battery life is a bit shorter, but still very good. I am particularly happy with HEIF MAX. The pictures are finally back to normal. I was only affected twice with overheating. Once it came out of nowhere and the other time when I was recording a video. The switch from the 14 Pro was worth it.

Absolutely love my 15 PM.

No heat issues(I had issues on 13 and 14 but solved with Wipr for hungry browser based issues. Anyone else remember their phones overheating just by reading MacRumors??? Wipr fixed that before and I use it still as a safety net)

I have my action button set to silent/video/photo based on orientation of the phone and that works flawlessly. I honestly did not care about the action button when announced and even missed the toggle/switch until the shortcut actions were built to be waaaay more powerful than natively allowed with the button.

I am also going naked/ceaseless and have added a new MagSafe popsocket for added grip/security. The naked phone looks great next to my AW U 2 with olive alpine loop.

While I upgrade phones almost every year, this year finally feels different and special. I got bored with my 13 and 14 pro’s within a day. Not so with the 15.

i've said it several times already but the 15 pro is nearly perfect to me, in every possible aspect....except for its battery

and having a perfect device that can't be ON and can't last a day makes it useless

as such I am contemplating returning it. apple might issue an update (when?) to downclock the chip, or at least reduce burst ... but im not sure they will

Trade-in for the 15 Pro Max? Battery life might be less of an issue.

15PM natural here. It's been awesome. Much lighter phone. Nice difference when in my pockets. Pleasure to hold. USB-C is a huge advantage for me. I got my action button programmed to turn on my car.

15PM Blue 512GB here coming from a 12P. Great screen, no blemishes, no heat issues.
Battery gets me through a normal 15h day with about 35% charge left. The 12P (after 3 years with 87% capacity left) ran out after 12h of normal use.
No complaints. Great phone!

My battery life has improved significantly after rebooting the phone. Maybe try that out, I think iOS is buggy right now. It makes no sense that the battery life on the 15 Pro is worse than on the 14 Pro that I had before it. It has a larger battery and a smaller chip. There has be a software issue that Apple will fix soon.

I am at 84% right now after 5 hours off the charger and including a 30 minute phone call with low reception. Seems good to me now.

I believe so too. I do believe its something with the chip. Knowing apple they will handle it and release an update soon. I'm content with my 15PM battery. Already seeing better results over the 14PM. Would I like more? Sure why not.

does my phone get hot? for sure. does it burn my hand, not quite. but if you get this notification about iphone temp, you are not delusional. your phone is hot and it doesn’t matter what these “you’re making things up” groups have to say. i get this temp notification every charge. and my phone “sometimes” runs hot.

Compared to 13 Pro Max
Camera performance isn’t as good indoors
Battery performance on par at best
Camera performance indoors is absolute garbage. I don’t understand how more people aren’t complaining about this and it’s driving me nuts. My portraits indoors are blurry and soft, no matter what I do. I could be in front of an open window with full sunlight coming in and photos are still no where near the quality my 14 pro was. I’m super annoyed that this phone feels like a complete downgrade for me from my 14 pro. If I hadn’t already shipped my 14 pro back for trade I would have kept it. This is the first year since basically the 6 that I haven’t been happy with an upgrade.

I love everything else about the phone I just can’t get past the fact that it feels like my indoor shots, which I take plenty of, are almost unusable.

Most people won't complain because a tiny smart phone sensor shooting indoors without sufficient light isn't going to be stellar. Adjust your expectations to match reality. Even a professional DSLR can have problems indoors.

I shouldn’t have to adjust my expectations when previous iterations of the same device shot exponentially better indoor shots under the same conditions. Regardless of the tiny smart phone sensor, these cameras are capable of pretty amazing things. The shots shouldn’t have gotten WORSE than previous models.
