Camera performance indoors is absolute garbage. I don’t understand how more people aren’t complaining about this and it’s driving me nuts. My portraits indoors are blurry and soft, no matter what I do. I could be in front of an open window with full sunlight coming in and photos are still no where near the quality my 14 pro was. I’m super annoyed that this phone feels like a complete downgrade for me from my 14 pro. If I hadn’t already shipped my 14 pro back for trade I would have kept it. This is the first year since basically the 6 that I haven’t been happy with an upgrade.

I love everything else about the phone I just can’t get past the fact that it feels like my indoor shots, which I take plenty of, are almost unusable.
This is why you have 14 days to ship back your previous device. You should've waited.

I shouldn’t have to adjust my expectations when previous iterations of the same device shot exponentially better indoor shots under the same conditions. Regardless of the tiny smart phone sensor, these cameras are capable of pretty amazing things. The shots shouldn’t have gotten WORSE than previous models.
My 15 Pro Max isn't great indoors. Neither was my 12 Pro Max. There just isn't enough light. That's how it is.

I received my iPhone 15 Pro Max last Monday, as an upgrade for my 13 Pro Max. To me it seems like a solid improvement over the latter. Love the Dynamic Island and cameras. USB-C and the Action Button are a nice addition as well.

Battery life is not as good compared to my 13 PM in its early months (it feels more like what it was in the end, with the 13 PM having 87% capacity left). But from what I’ve been reading here at MacRumors, I’d dare to say it could be a bug. Maybe even some indexing, although I doubt that since I’m on my third day having the device.

But I’ll just try and have patience, hoping Apple might do something through an update. Otherwise I’ll see if I can resort to other solutions.

You realize how stupid that sounds right? This just means people are willing to accept that the newer model of the phone isn’t as good as the old. Does that make any sense to you at all?

I have upgraded every single year since the first iPhone. I have had every iteration, I also joined iUP the year it started and have been on it since. I am a huge Apple fanboy and have always pushed people towards iPhones. This is the first time I have EVER upgraded and been disappointed, especially in the cameras.

No stupidness. What it means is that you have 14 days to decide to keep or ship back. That's all. No pun intended. Good day sir.

Love it and I had a 13pm and upgraded from my 14pm I just gave to my Dad.

Caseles so in hand is amazing vs 14pm. Camera better and 5x I really like. No overheating issues but I don’t do dumb social like ticktock. Action button is cool as using the script someone created here.

Would not go back to 14pm mostly due to form factor, rounded edges and the other things I mentioned.

Only issues I’ve had is that:
A: the Magnifier application keeps randomly crashing
B: the Safari view inside of third-party applications can get very laggy and slow.

Other than these it’s been smooth sailing on my Pro Max.
No heat issues, and I can’t really comment on the battery other than to say it is dramatically better than my 12 mini, even when limited to 80%.

An update for 15 Pro owners:

Since disabling Background App Refresh on Instagram, Threads, and Snapchat (which I barely use them other than Instagram, so they didn’t need to be on anyways), my phone’s heat levels are what I would expect and on par with my 14 Pro, except for one specific situation:

YouTube app playback, especially with Picture in Picture, seems to generate more warmth than I would expect. This doesn’t seem to happen with YouTube in Safari or other apps that play video.

It’s not getting hot, but it is getting warmer than I would expect/my 14 Pro doing the same task.

I think the heat “issue” is a software issue with certain apps and the system. The phone will likely just always feel warmer if you’re touching the outside titanium frame (stainless steel is always going to feel cooler to the touch than Ti or Al), but so far the cases of my phone getting abnormally warm are isolated to a few third party apps.

Since that’s not my experience, and it’s the same camera hardware as the 14 Pro, I believe you are either mistaken or have a defective unit.

I installed from an iCloud backup which unfortunately seemed to introduce some bugs related to Photos. I randomly couldn’t send any, it would stick on the ‘preparing’ dialog.

I’ve had to go back and set the 15 Pro Max up as a new phone, forgoing the backup. Hope this solves my software hiccups - quite like the phone otherwise (updated from 14 Pro Max).

There are a few nice little upgrades related to photos which make it worthwhile to me. I usually want portrait shots of my kids with animation (live mode) built in. Haven’t been able to do it until now.

All those little 3 second snippets of the kids when they’re young will be golden in years to come. It’s a great feature.

I am hoping that my unit is defective, I am going to wait a few weeks and then attempt to get it replaced. Part of me also hopes that maybe with a software update, it will also improve.

i can't stand behemoth anymore , 220gr+huge ass size is too much for me . but yeap youre right max battery is actually great
This I never understood. 220g. Really? 220g? I mean, i can't even...Frame size I can kinda get. If you don't have larger hands it can be annoying. But weight? I have an s22U that weighs 228g, plus what ever the case is, and weight just is never anything that I think of.

On a positive note, since the camera is the same as the 14PM this can be addressed with software.

I haven't disabled anything and my 15PM is running fine. I'm with you on heat issue being a software thing.

on the first day of store launch, we were lucky to be able to buy a 15pro for me and a 15 for my wife from the store. after nearly one week, here are my comments;

I am very happy with the 15pro. I do not have overheating or I do not have the colour change on the side of the phone. battery life is fine (very similar with my old 14pro)

Regarding the back glass not being aligned with rest of the phone, I can understand what people mean, but the situation with my phone is not bothering at all. I can say the pieces are in place %99 for my phone. The reason I am saying %99 is when I look at my wife's 15 and feel it and examine it, I can say that phone is assembled with %100 quality control. But I can not say the same for mine. It still looks and works great, but I have the feeling that some very minor details or gaps would have been better. But it is definitely nowhere near the videos or photos I saw from other users. I hope I was clear enough.

final word: this is the first time in my life that I am seeing a regular iphone model looking better and having more assembly quality than a pro model. I can say my old 14pro was also feeling more solid and assembled well than my 15pro.

verdict: we are both happy with our phones and will keep them. I think we were lucky with the devices we got from the store. (especially me with my 15pro)

Picked it a Blue 256GB Pro in store on friday. No issues here! Only time it really got too hot was when I charged it with my 140 W MBP charger... but still it went from 20-80% really fast and then it stopped itself. I wish I had a way to measure it's power draw.

I came from a 13 Pro using the TMobile trade in.

Lighter good. USB C good. Dynamic Island good. Action button good. Camera good.

Tid Bits:
My cell reception is improved. I drove to my parents house this past weekend and cell reception was better throughout the drive and i notoriously had some dead pockets before.

I live in an apartment with lots of WiFi signals and my WiFi download speeds are 2x as fast. Even just on WiFi 6.

AOD by default is weird and too bright. I turned off the wallpaper and notifications for it and it's better. (Now playing and timer notifications still show up)

Being older, the larger form factor not only means more battery but more screen real estate which is great for older eyes but means no ipad to lug around when traveling. I've never been bothered by the size or crisp edges. My first mobile phone was a Motorola bag phone that plugged into a cigarette lighter and was the size of the iPad Pro. It fits in almost every pocket with no issues.

does my phone get hot? for sure. does it burn my hand, not quite. but if you get this notification about iphone temp, you are not delusional. your phone is hot and it doesn’t matter what these “you’re making things up” groups have to say. i get this temp notification every charge. and my phone “sometimes” runs hot.

I’m getting these messages typically when I’m charging in a non-ventilated space (like car armrest or car wireless charger). Always with the 12P. That should not happen if charged in open space no matter if wired or wireless. I have not experienced this with my 15PM.

It seems as though the 15 Pro Max isn’t nearly as affected as the smaller Pro models, probably due the size difference.

That being said, I also wanna clarify I wouldn’t even describe this as “hot”. Simply just warmer than expected, based on my 14 Pro doing the same tasks.

At most its a weird occurrence but it’s not impacted the usability of my phone in any way.

Walked into Apple store Saturday and purchased a 512gb 15 ProMax in titanium blue without appointment or ordering online. After I got the phone home I inspected the device thoroughly and found no defects. After using it this past week it works flawlessly with no heating issues or anything else being discussed as issues or defects on this forum. I'm extremely happy with the phone And it's a amazing upgrade coming from my 6 yr old iPhone X..
