With the new iPhone around the corner, are you feeling any envy!? Specifically, if you have Xs or Xs Max!?

Even more specifically, I'm asking for those of us with Xs or Xs Max who are determined NOT to upgrade to iPhone XI.

Not going to lie, it's nice to have the latest iPhone, but I know my time as such is coming to an end. It'll be easy not to upgrade, but I think I'll miss being able to say I have the current "best" iPhone. Oh well though, as these devices are far too expensive to upgrade yearly.

I'm VERY INTERESTED to see the trade in values this year, as I think they'll be a lot more generous if Apple has learned anything.

At any rate, I know my phone (Xs Max 256GB) is future proof, so I take solace in that.

Having an iPhone XS, I'm more curious as to what the new XR(2) will be like. Having a 3rd camera doesn't do anything for me so the iPhone XI isn't something I'm going to get jealous over.

Considering I'm not really feeling the leaks, it's going to be tough to want to upgrade, even from the XR. Probably the most exciting leap this year is the Pixel 4, which looks like it could be really good.

But it all depends on your situation. If you have the money to do it, upgrade, but if gosh forbid, you're "stuck" with a 2018 model, you're not missing out on that much. The biggest upgrades are in the software this year anyway.

Considering I'm not really feeling the leaks, it's going to be tough to want to upgrade, even from the XR. Probably the most exciting leap this year is the Pixel 4, which looks like it could be really good.

The Pixel 4 DEFINITELY has my attention. I don't see me switching, but stranger things have happened.

Once I get a MacBook, I'll be completely locked into the eco-system, but that's not a bad thing IMO.

I'm very pleased with iOS 13 at the moment and dual sim is now a necessity. I have no desire for the iPhone XI TBH, but I'm saying that in a vacuum and based off leaks. I also have no complaints about my Xs Max, so there's that.

Still, I'm excited for the release and to see if there are any surprises.

I'm still happy enough w my 6 plus because it gives me indescribable joy not giving Apple any of my money. Each year that passes I like it even more because of that reason. The goal is to give as little of my cash to apple as possible. No service subscriptions from them either. Unfortunately I do pay $0.99/month for iCloud storage which kinda bothers me, but I try not to dwell on it because I consider paying for iCloud a weakness (laziness).
But my days of iCloud backup are coming to an end, so I might as well migrate my data files over to my FTP server and go back to the free 5GB iCloud plan. Yeah, I think I'll start doing that shortly.
No "ecosystem" entrapment for me.

Loving my Xs Max... after upgrading almost every year since 2010, I will not be upgrading this year. I am very happy with my Xs Max and see nothing compelling from the leaks and rumors of the new iPhone. Also, LESS THAN ZERO interest in any phone that isn't an iPhone. #standingPat

No.

Every rumor and supposed leak has made me less interested in upgrading than I ever have been before. I think that the new design is rather ugly, there are no new features I give a **** about, and the idea of spending another $1,500+ on a phone every year is getting old.

I plan on sticking with my XS and XS Max for at least the next couple or three years. It already does more than I need it to, and I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. The iPhone 7 could more than meets my needs if push came to shove.

I probably won’t care until a 5G capable model is released and 5G is widely available. I’ll probably pay attention at that point.

I’m interested in seeing what they bring but I’m not looking to upgrade this year as I don’t need to. It all looks incremental from the leaks and nothing too exciting from my point of view.

No "ecosystem" entrapment for me.

I am of the opinion that this is a choice. People choose to use the ecosystem because there are services and things about it that they like or that improve aspects of their daily lives.

The problem is that some of them don't want to admit that it's a choice they actively made. So, Apple has 'trapped' them. A choice to use something else is either too complicated, involves too much work or will result in something less than what they had before. So stayling 'trapped' is easier than getting out.

Despite that, there are plenty of workarounds that approach, equal or even surpass what Apple offers, although the argument is often made that Apple is the only one doing X or that they do it better or that the workflow they have can only be served by being or staying in the Apple ecosystem.

Some are unwilling to use services they see as untrustworthy, as if Apple is the only one they can trust. Yet, Apple has also shown more than once that they are capable of screwing the customer over.

Some just prefer how Apple's ecosystem works and that's fine. But it's still a choice.

With all that's out there though, I just don't buy the old argument that you're trapped and can't leave.

I don't feel envy as I'm keeping $1000 in my pocket. I will only feel envy when my my 6s severely slows down. Heck if iOS13 behaves nicely on the 6s, I would defer my plan to upgrade again and just replace the battery on my 6s and keep it for another year.

Every year I look forward to the leaks and the keynote to see what’s released. This is the first year I’m not wowed and have no interest in upgrading. I have a 256GB Gold XS Max which I absolutely love and serves its purpose for me. There are several reasons why I choose to not upgrade this year.

1. I have T-Mobile and with the impending merger with Sprint, I need to see how my coverage will play out. If it get worse and the price increase, I’m jumping ship to Verizon (I’ll get a government discount so I’m not worried about pricing)

2. The XS Max have the Intel modem which I don’t like, so I definitely don’t want to upgrade this year for another iPhone with the Intel modem.

3. I will pay outright for the SIM free iPhone, for mine and my daughter’s next iPhones, so from now until September 2020, will give me a chance to save money (I always save for big purchases).

So for the next 12 months, I’m happy using my XS Max and my daughter is fine using her X with a new battery.

Quite a few questions to answer!

Am I feeling any envy? Nope. Glad things are changing so I have something to look forward to. It's all about perspective.

I'm definitely determined not to upgrade. I was 100% certain I wouldn't upgrade to the Xs MAX with my 8+. Yeah, that didn't last long, but this time, I'm seriously serious. Really, I am. Seriously.

The best phone? Well, I'll be honest with you. I use my MacBook Pro and my iPad a lot more than I do my phone. So much so, that I think this is going to be the biggest factor in me not upgrading. iPad OS along with my MacBook? Yeah, most likely not upgrading.

So much so in fact... that ... I'm planning on keeping my iPhone XS MAX 3+ years total (almost 1 year down).

Apple shouldn't fear. I'm giving it way too much of my money.

Envy? I have an 8 Plus and I'm actually a bit disappointed that it doesn't look like there's anything worth upgrading for this year. Seems, like another incremental model compared what's supposedly coming in 2020.

Yeah, it usually sucks knowing there's a better phone, even if the upgrades are very incremental and totally not worth actually upgrading. But in the end, it's not a big deal.

I typically get 2 out of every 3 phones on average, and this is a sit out year, so be it I guess.

What a strange post - bragging and envy. As far as I am concerned I make the purchases I want and couldn't care less what others may be buying. I have a XR, not because I want to show off etc. but simply because it's a phone that best suits my needs. I would only change my current phone if the replacement offered a feature that I really thought would make a difference to the way I use my phone.

Having to have the latest big ticket purchase says a lot about the individual.

I have a XR, not because I want to show off etc. but simply because it's a phone that best suits my needs. I would only change my current phone if the replacement offered a feature that I really thought would make a difference to the way I use my phone.

I stated at the outset that I'd be keeping my iPhone Xs Max. So no need to have the latest for me. That doesn't mean, I don't have an opinion...

Not even a 6s+ for iOS 13? The 6 and 6+ are underpowered, IMO. That 1 GB of RAM made it a dealbreaker once iOS 10 came along.

I have a feeling true 5G service will end up being overhyped and quite expensive. Shoot, Verizon’s new plans that are coming out tomorrow are just expensive and confusing. $10 more for 5G is where the price hikes begin. LTE will be around for quite some time and will drastically improve once people get super excited about 5G and immediately jump on that bandwagon.

LTE still gives me speeds way beyond what I need so I’m okay with LTE for the long haul. When my 10 dies, I’ll buy the next iPhone that includes the latest Qualcomm or Qualcomm-like chip. I spent $900 on my 256 GB 10, brand new. I’m forcing it to be well spent.

Not really. I haven’t really felt any envy since the the iPhone X. I waited 6 weeks to upgrade to the X because I wasn’t that bothered. I only ended up getting it because I wanted to treat myself for Christmas. Based on the leaks so far I’m not that enthused. It depends on the keynote.

Like BigMac, I use my iPad (mini 5) most of the time, which includes phone duties. My XS Max still looks and runs like it is brand new. At this point in time, I have no desire to upgrade. Nothing from the rumors leads me to believe I need those possible new features in my daily life use. My plan is to see what is offered in 2020.

With iPadOS, I no longer have the desire to have biggest phone.

I have no envy. My self-worth is not wrapped up in material purchases.
