Couldn’t care less if I have the latest phone or somebody else. It’s a tool nothing else. I don’t define myself via some electronics purchase.

I use the iPhone upgrade program to upgrade every year but I tell people it's still great even if you don't. If you've got envy/desire for the new phone that comes out then upgrade to it easily. If you don't then keep paying the monthly payments and you own the phone after two years.

Not really. A new iPhone is always nice to have, but I’m still in love with my 8 Plus, and doubt I’ll upgrade just yet. Never say never, but personally I’m more stoked for a future OLED-equipped iPad.

Probably not upgrading this year, and waiting for 2020, more or less, I am more interested in a midsize 5.4 inch iPhone that’s been rumored. For anything larger, I can just resort to my iPad/laptop. I’m to the point where I really don’t like carrying around larger iPhones in my pocket, it’s obtrusive and quite annoying.

With the new iPhone around the corner, are you feeling any envy!? Specifically, if you have Xs or Xs Max!?

Even more specifically, I'm asking for those of us with Xs or Xs Max who are determined NOT to upgrade to iPhone XI.

Maybe I’m not quite understanding what you mean, but why would I be envious if I’ve made the decision not to buy?

If what I’ve seen so far in terms of rumors doesn’t wow me, then it doesn’t wow me. Seems to me that there wouldn’t be anything to be envious of.

And if I change my mind at some point in the future, I would just buy the phone and sell my XS Max. Again, no reason to be envious.

My MAX is still as buttery smooooth as the day I got it.

I would hope so, considering it's still running the same core version of iOS as the day you bought it. Not exactly an achievement for a sub-12 month old phone to run as good as it did when new, when on the same iOS.

Is the bar really that low for phones costing upwards of $1500 that some consider this an achievement?

I think what the OP is referring to when he say envy, is are you envious of the new hardware and upgrades that come with the new iPhones? Would that be enough to make someone upgrade? I will admit, if reversed charging come to this year’s iPhone, I will be envious of it, but I’m still going to upgrade until next year.

Not really. The XI leaks and rumors look and sound stale. The cycle has changed, as big upgrades no longer happen every year or other year. In fact, if you dont count the larger screens, we're still looking at the same body design from the 6 and 6+. That's pretty sad.

I plan to hang on to my XS Max for at least another year (or 2).

It’s curious that people can make such a decision before they even know what the new model will offer. If the decision is budget driven, I can certainly understand that though. All the rumors about the 2019 models and 2020 models are just that, so it’s rumored that I might or might not upgrade, lol.

That's basically it, I'm very nuanced in my thoughts. You can have conflicting feelings and still be resolved to follow a particular course of action.

Just cause I'm not upgrading, doesn't mean I won't miss having the latest iPhone, or be envious of some of the enhancements.

My principles, and prices > having the latest is what it basically amounts to.

I have to admit, I enjoy using devices as long as possible more than buying a new one every year. Sure, getting a new gadget is always exciting, but I love seeing how long these devices can last. For example, I used my mid 2009 MacBook Pro until mid 2018 – slightly more than nine years. At the end of its life, it was super slow and the screen was basically defect, so I had to get a new one (and I needed to, since I wanted to start actually working on the laptop again, which was done on a newer iMac before).

I still use the same Apple TV (and TV screen) I did in 2011. I still use the iPhone 6 I got at launch almost five years ago (though that one is going to be exchanged for a used iPhone X in the next few days for various reasons). I'm still on the Apple Watch Series 0. It's crazy just how long the useful lifespan of computer products has become, and I love it.

This is the level I would like to get to.

Not going to lie, it's nice to have the latest iPhone, but I know my time as such is coming to an end. It'll be easy not to upgrade, but I think I'll miss being able to say I have the current "best" iPhone. Oh well though, as these devices are far too expensive to upgrade yearly.

I'm VERY INTERESTED to see the trade in values this year, as I think they'll be a lot more generous if Apple has learned anything.

At any rate, I know my phone (Xs Max 256GB) is future proof, so I take solace in that.
[doublepost=1564868970][/doublepost]I'm even going to say if Apple offered $700 or more on trade in I might be tempted, but I don't see that happening.

Not at all, I love my recently purchased XS. The rumours didn't get me excited, so was happy to buy an XS.

Traditionally, Apple has never been about ‘big’ upgrades every year. Especially with the iPhone, it’s usually been incremental over the years or at least every three years for major changes (i.e.-Dual camera, 3D Touch, ect). That’s not really how technology works, where major changes are released every year, at least in the smart phone world it does not.

Not feeling any envy at all. Regardless of what Apple announces in September, I'm keeping my Xs as it will serve me great for another year or two.

I am used to upgrading every year, but I've come to the point that I do not need to upgrade my device every single year. I'll happily continue to use my Xs for another year or two.

Okay, well you haven’t been following the iPhone as long then. I was referring to back when major changes were coming out much more frequently (like iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, etc). Since the 6, it’s slowed.

No need to assume, I’ve been following Apple for quite some time.

You never specified the earlier models in your previous post, which is why I contested what you said by saying that there has ‘been no big upgrades’ year-to-year, when Apple doesn’t do big upgrades on a yearly basis. If you referring to older generation iPhone models, then you never mentioned that to begin with.

I stopped preordering iPhones two years ago. You can get used stuff within the first couple weeks online for 200 or more off. So like the last two years i'll just wait and see what deals are online or I'll wait till next year. Nothing this year has interested me when it comes to Apple products.

Yearly upgrader here too and will say I may be holding off this year as the XI doesn't appeal to me like it should. So I rather just pay off my Xs Max completely to be able to trade it in with money towards the 2020 iPhone.

I upgraded devices every year since the iPhone 3G...
Im currently using the Xs Max and i love it. I really thought i was gonna skip this year but i dropped the damn thing while waiting for the elevator on the day i took it off the smart battery case :( The back is cracked and the front screen have a small crack also...
800$ Cad to get it fixed, well replaced i should say.
Now instead of spending 800$ to fix it i rather wait for the new one and spend the 800$ on the latest model...
I bought the Xs Max 1726$ Cad unlocked. Don’t feel like spending another 800$ on it, so ill get the new one this year again :p

I used to upgrade annually but have been on the 8 Plus since launch. I figured this would be THE year for me to upgrade on launch day knowing no matter what comes in 2020, I’d just upgrade then as well. But, either Apple has made a major leap in keeping leaks from occurring, or the 2019 phones are shaping up to be a minor upgrade. I’m intrigued by the potential camera upgrades but I personally would like something additional and to this point I’ve heard of very little. Fingers crossed.

The solid colored back EASILY looks better than the all black. And silver still IMO looks to be the best color of the bunch.
