The solid colored back EASILY looks better than the all black. And silver still IMO looks to be the best color of the bunch.

I always wanted a product red phone. I have a backup Space Gray X and I hate that color. Never again will I buy a phone that look black. I have the XS Max in gold and love that color. I think the Gold and Silver look the best.

That stylus seems highly unlikely. Apple Pencil, maybe. Chance they make that stylus- very very low in my opinion.

Might need to go Android/Note 10 in next few weeks....have had some annoying problems on my Max. Old notifications pop up regularly and it's a long list. And it takes forever to load up (or not at all) the app store on a strong cell signal. Have already done a wipe and reinstall. In any case this is the sort of thing that people complained about in regards to the Android system. Wonky OS. And finally, jumping through hoops to buy books on the Kindle app. Give it up already, Apple.

The hoops in the kindle app are solely due to Amazon not willing to let you purchase in the app as they don’t want to share their super low market dumping price profits with Apple like any other entity that uses their App Store platform for their business.

I haven’t experienced a slow loading App Store myself yet but that surely must be annoying.

Not really. The XI leaks and rumors look and sound stale. The cycle has changed, as big upgrades no longer happen every year or other year. In fact, if you dont count the larger screens, we're still looking at the same body design from the 6 and 6+. That's pretty sad.

I plan to hang on to my XS Max for at least another year (or 2).

But is there anything wrong with the current design? I don’t have an issue with it. I have OLED with tiny bezels. I’ve wanted that for years. The only thing I know they can improve is the notch but personally, it has never bothered me. It blends into the phone perfectly. But, I know that there are those that have the opposite opinion, which is completely okay. :) it’s a YMMV thing.

No need to assume, I’ve been following Apple for quite some time.

You never specified the earlier models in your previous post, which is why I contested what you said by saying that there has ‘been no big upgrades’ year-to-year, when Apple doesn’t do big upgrades on a yearly basis. If you referring to older generation iPhone models, then you never mentioned that to begin with.

I still think the 3GS to the 4 was the best major upgrade that we have seen to date. I love the 4 design and truly miss it.

WHEN new phones are around the corner i always look forward to reviews and hands on e.t.c...just hope the new cameras will be great as after being on Hoilday this week when taking photos at night can really tell where the improvements are needed and thats low light.

I'm still happy enough w my 6 plus because it gives me indescribable joy not giving Apple any of my money. Each year that passes I like it even more because of that reason. The goal is to give as little of my cash to apple as possible. No service subscriptions from them either. Unfortunately I do pay $0.99/month for iCloud storage which kinda bothers me, but I try not to dwell on it because I consider paying for iCloud a weakness (laziness).
But my days of iCloud backup are coming to an end, so I might as well migrate my data files over to my FTP server and go back to the free 5GB iCloud plan. Yeah, I think I'll start doing that shortly.
No "ecosystem" entrapment for me.
Why not buy a used 7+? The 6+ has to be hard to use with it's limited ram?

I really feel now days buying a new tech is kind of a side grade rather than an upgrade. I will now buy the tech a year or so later. As in I will buy iPhone 11 or note 10 plus after atleast 9 months from now.

Ofc I feel the urge sometimes to upgrade but it's not worth it now to upgrade. Not much changes in terms of tech even after a year I believe.

IMHO

I might wait a few weeks before I get the new version of the max. At least then I can watch all the reviews and then feel like it was worth the upgrade, rather than jumping in blindly and buying on launch day. I think the camera on the max is quite good, but it needs a wide angle, greater optical zoom and better night time pictures. I guess we know we are getting the wide angle lens, but I don't think there will be any major improvements to the telephoto lens because I think we would have heard about them already. A night mode is a possibility too. Hopefully the rumours about the Apple pencil support are true. Maybe Apple will surprise us and introduce a split screen mode too but I think it would have come at WWDC.

With the new iPhone around the corner, are you feeling any envy!? Specifically, if you have Xs or Xs Max!?

Even more specifically, I'm asking for those of us with Xs or Xs Max who are determined NOT to upgrade to iPhone XI.

Not going to lie, it's nice to have the latest iPhone, but I know my time as such is coming to an end. It'll be easy not to upgrade, but I think I'll miss being able to say I have the current "best" iPhone. Oh well though, as these devices are far too expensive to upgrade yearly.

I'm VERY INTERESTED to see the trade in values this year, as I think they'll be a lot more generous if Apple has learned anything.

At any rate, I know my phone (Xs Max 256GB) is future proof, so I take solace in that.
[doublepost=1564868970][/doublepost]I'm even going to say if Apple offered $700 or more on trade in I might be tempted, but I don't see that happening.
Honestly I’ve had every iPhone model except for the 3GS and 4 and X. PHONES ARE BORING!!! The XS Max was totally blah upgrade after the 8 plus.
So **** no I’m not envious of the new phones, note 10, iPhone 11 Pro, Huawei. I honestly haven’t gone to macrumors or listen to tech podcast in the last year. It just same old thing.
Phones have peaked.

Innovation now is adding one camera lens a year. Maybe in 9 years we’ll have 10 cameras on current phones! But it’ll do the same old thing.

I know better low light was in the rumours camera improvements so can hope the night shots will be a lot better. After all it seems the update will be heavily based on the camera so i hope they do knock it out the park. I will upgrade as with my 20% perk discount i will be looking at least a saving of £20 a month as long as they do tariffs of 30GB of data as i don’t need 100GB which is what i have now...

I will admit, these renders are starting to look better and better.

With sales down, and all the phones rumored to be launching at the same time I wonder if Apple has any plans to be aggressive with trade in promotions, since that's LITERALLY the first thing you're greeted by when going to their site.

I don't remember the last iPhone launch I've been this active around. There is something welling up inside me, lol. But all the stars and planets would have to align for me to give up my Xs Max.

Where's the invitations already!?

Yeah, the shaded portions around the camera module doesn’t look as polarizing if it was all black like from previous renders. Aside from that, once the results are in with the ‘triple lens’ camera and what it can do, it will change perspectives about how it looks. I for one, I’m really interested to see what Apple is doing with the camera this year. (Hopefully improved low-light.)

Yeah, low light on iPhone can no longer be ignored. However, I think it would be a fail, if whatever they've come up with concerning low light is only available on the new iPhone.

I could see where the new iPhone has the best low lighting shots of the bunch, but then the feature is rolled out to iPhone X and above at perhaps a lower effective rate.

I also have an XS Max Gold 256 Sim-Free and I am very content with it. I have no plans to upgrade. 2020 is my year.

Yea. Same here!! :D

I say every year I won’t upgrade and then I do. So I’m not saying I won’t this year. But camera upgrades do nothing for me. So there would need to be something else.

Bigger battery, smaller notch, Apple Pencil mini? Those would get me to upgrade. A13 and triple lens camera alone wouldn’t.

Right on @Lankyman lol. If owning the latest and greatest gives you a greater sense of self worth, it may be time to dig deep and learn why, because no outside thing or person will ever make you feel complete or truly happy. Preach! Haha. With that being said, I buy a new Mac every 10 years, whether I need it or not, and yes, I still love my 6s Plus. I was a zealot for many years until they blacklisted my 9,1 iMac because it wouldn't handle Mojave. I came here, got a tiny bit of an education and lots of perspective, and decided Apple was just moving forward in technology, so imagine my surprise, when I bought an 18,3 iMac in Nov, 2018...and it didn't have Mojave on it:). What really irked me though was I had to spend nearly $1000 more just to get the same functionality and connectivity my 9,1 had. Apple has perfected their game at squeezing every dime they can out of you today. They were a company that cared about customer satisfaction in 1999 when I joined, and they proved it. Today this is a very different Apple. One without any regard to returning loyalty to those who have been loyal to them for decades.

As if, I'm some kind of wise soul, arr arr, my ego was firmly attached to Apple for way too long. Maybe it's a good thing they don't care. It cut me loose from the bs I was buying anyway. Or as my best friend's dad said to me, "Kev, some of us wear our bulls**t... on the outside of our boots:). I think I have one more year before they "sunset" my phone, in which case I'll buy and Xr, maybe used. I'm fairly determined to give Apple the same consideration they've given me lately, 'nough said.
