Wired still offers the opportunity for superior audio quality, no latency, not dead when you want to use them, even less risk of loss by one falling out, much longer use life, "just works", etc.

Except for getting rid of the wire, Bluetooth is basically inferior in every way.
The responses to my question clearly shows the wired Earpods have their place in the market even if non-Apple BT solutions are way cheaper. It’s that Apple only $19 vs $129 difference that is steep. Cheers.

It's sad that Apple doesn't respect global standards like USB-C and pushed the old, dated, slow lightning port for as long as they did and it only changed thanks to the EU.

Stop cheerleading for a brand, it's not healthy.
Apparently, Apple has their own definition for speed of light. It’s 480 Mbit/s (60MB/s). When travelling, I backup/transfer my videos to T7 SSDs at the end of the day. It is a pain. Waiting and waiting. It’s much less than 480 Mbit/s, I believe. And they sell 1 TB iPhones. It’s ridiculous.

I forgot Apple still makes these 😆

$19 is good though! They used to be $29 right? (And included with iPhones… but let’s not squabble)

With all four iPhone 15 models expected to feature a USB-C port instead of Lightning, several Apple accessories will switch to USB-C as well. For example, EarPods with a USB-C connector are already in mass production, according to a tweet today from leaker ShrimpApplePro. They previously said Foxconn is supplying the earbuds.

The new EarPods would connect directly to the USB-C port on iPhone 15 models, without an adapter. Apple's wired earbuds are currently available with a Lightning connector or a 3.5mm headphone jack, with both versions priced at $19.

EarPods have become less popular since Apple released wireless AirPods in 2016, and removed the headphone jack on iPhones, but they remain a more affordable option for customers. EarPods also provide a simple plug-and-play wired listening experience, with a built-in remote and no charging or pairing necessary.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 lineup in September, and the new EarPods would likely launch around then. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously claimed that other accessories like AirPods charging cases, the MagSafe Battery Pack, and the Magic Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse trio will switch to USB-C in the future as well.

Doesn't matter...they still won't come in the box with a new iPhone.....

Yup. Can't wait for all the busted ports. USB-C is nowhere near as robust or sturdy a physical port. This standard might be great for small electronics that don't see a lot of "in-n-out" action on the port but I don't think this was well thought out when it comes to phones. Had to have mine replaced on my 2017 MBP but never once had a problem with a lightning port.
USB c feels so cheap in comparison to lightning.

No satisfying click on the 20v wall charging brick…

I am surprised that the EarPods are still $19 when Apple charge $49 to $99 for various watch straps that probably cost pennies to make.

Agreed. It would seem like EarPods should at most cost $10 or $15 max. They are not high quality buds.
$19 for EarPods are a good price, and I was very happy with audio quality of the EarPods .

I was so surprised to hear instruments on albums I’d never heard before using the the EarPods that came with the iPhone 7.

I sometimes wonder if I should go back to wired for better audio quality on songs compared to Bluetooth connection. (I have AirPods Pro 2 and I’m curious about the comparison… because I’m not blown away with the audio quality of the AirPods Pro 2)

Apple could have increased the speed of lighting but saw no need to. I can't wait for people to lose it when they keep the same speed but change the port...

Will these be included with the purchase of a new iPhone? Not everyone has USB C headphones.
They might be to promote the new USB-C iPhone, but I'm too secure about it.
It's so sad that EU government tyranny led to this. Apple has no freedom to innovate anymore.
Apple has "no freedom" to innovate anymore? Try transferring a ProRaw file to a Macbook. You see the reason why they had to switch to -C.
I can't believe they still make these awful things. They're completely non-functional (don't stay in your ears) and sound terrible. Instead of switching to USBC they should have stopped making them completely and replaced them with a design that uses silicone tips like every other sane (and cheap) wired earbud in existence.

Apple should be embarrassed that they sell these things alongside their flagship products.
Silicone Tips can cause ear wax to stick to my ear, and after a few months, it gets so bad that I have to replace the ear tips to prevent an ear infection.

Because many people don’t want a wireless transmitter right next to their brain? They’d rather be in the control group vs experimental group? No charging? Sound quality? Cost?

Lots of reasons. 😀😀
These people don't understand that going into the sun exposes them to more radiation.

People that have never listened to good high quality music don't and can't know the difference. That is Apple's demographic, teenagers, those living off of mom and pop, and those that just have to be in-style (up with the latests fad).

/sarcasm <-- you forgot to add this
What happens when the next standard connector is needed? Are we supposed to rely on the EU to legislate technology changes now? There WILL be a day when USB-C is not powerful enough and we will be stuck with outdated legislation requiring an old technology to be used.

How many years has the iPhone been around? That is a pretty long fad ...
