With the Skinz they are great for working out IMO. They are secure and the bass is great, just not possible to put in the case to charge.

I personally don't like the Jaybirds... the in ear portion (not the silicone bud) is the larger one that hurts my ears. Motorola and Beast use that size. I'm not a fan... prefer the smaller Sony size which luckily a lot of cheaper buds use.

Good point about the bass. The AirPods feel light and airy (and very pleasant) compared to comply foam tips on BT earbuds jammed deep into my ear canals, but for workouts I admit I grew accustomed to throbbing bass. I already change into dedicated workout clothes, shoes, Watch band, so I guess it's not too crazy to slip a pair of skins on my AirPods before my workout.

Problem is that my iPhone cannot drive the airpods loud enough for what I listen to, using them in my gym was almost pointless. And they to not cancel noise for beans.

Thanks away, don't want to spend more money cause I have oodles of ear/headphones already.

My Samsung S7 smartphone slaughters my iPhone for sound output and quality, I am going to try pairing the Airpods with that one.

You're at the whim of the DAC inside the Airpod. It won't get any louder... these aren't like wired headphones where DAC Amp pumps out the music. Each BT headphone (and lightning headphone) has their own built in amp.

I'm pretty sure I'm returning my Airpods cause they aren't worth the $$. I'll get them again when I save up enough giftcards and Best Buy Credit just to have a pair. But I definitely don't think they are worth over $100 out of my pocket when these other headphones exist.

Ok, you convinced me to try them. :)

When I first saw the Airpods I thought to myself how will they stay in your ear since they don't have any rubber insert like many do. My first thought was just get some of those hook covers but then I realized they would likely never fit in the case with those. Now reading this post i know they wouldn't and the sensors won't work. So then I thought of using some of that rubber spray can stuff that is used to seal small leaks. I could cover the openings for the speakers with some tape and put a light coat on. From the sound of it I would also have to cover the sensor area as well. I just wonder if that would be enough friction to help hold them in my ears. I am still not convinced they are something I need since I don't use my phone to listen to music. And I am still tying to talk myself into needing an Apple watch.

Unless you plan on putting music on your future Apple watch you don't need them then. I am always on an iPhone or an iPad at the gym and on my iPhone listening to podcasts at work.

I don't think you'll be disappointed... but if you hate them just return them... no hair off your back. :)

Well I paired my Galaxy s7 with the Airpods and the volume is much louder with some of the music I tried that I like listening to. AND I do feel it sounds better so it is the iPhone, what else could it be.

Like the other reply... could be the volume limiter on your iPhone if you have it on. It shouldn't be otherwise though... or it might just be iOS in general transmitting.

Settings. Music. scroll down to the Playback section.

Thanks, volume limit is off.

All smartphones output the sound at different levels. I saw a listing back when which were the strongest for that. I think the iPhone 4s had the strongest output if I remember correctly amongst Apple ones. The dac plays no part in amplification as far as I am aware.

That "should" only involve the DAC amp though because it's powered... your wireless output should be the same because it's processed the same as long as the same compression is used. One could theorize that Apt-X would sound louder and cleaner due to less compression.

The only guess I have would be Android outputs BT wireless signal louder than iOS but that doesn't feel right and goes against coding logic... like how people are having problems with music coming from a MacOS device on their Airpods right now.

Well thanks for your input, I can only tell you what my case use was with the Airpods with the Galaxy s7 for volume versus my iPhone. The Samsung wins out by a pretty good margin.

You can pair the Airpods to anything for trial purposes. If you do not have any android smartphones just go to any carrier and pair the s7 or anything else if you are curious.

And with the HTC 10, even better.

What can I say, folks on iOS alternatives forum know I'm a phone junkie. :)

I cannot get the airpods to work with the Earskinz, guess I am covering something I shouldn't be. Sound just comes out of the iPhone and I do not get the beep sound when Bluetooth shows the airpods are connected.

Try connecting again? The only "problem" I noticed is that the Airpods disconnect when I put the Airpods on. But I just connect them again in the control center and they work fine but sans tap features and play/pause when inserted/removed from ear.

Well ends up the Airpods sound much better than initially cause I changed smartphones. I really do not see me needing the Earskinz now to better the sound cause they are pretty good (even decent bass to tell the truth) nor do I feel it necessary to have them to keep the Airpods in.

All iPhones have different levels for sound output, I know you stated that should not matter with Bluetooth but android smartphones I tried do vary regardless over Bluetooth. One of my very best ones is the Axon 7, better still than listening with the HTC 10 or Galaxy S7.

Are the Airpods keepers? Well perhaps not even though they may sound good with my other smartphones I'd lose their features made for use with iPhones (i.e., Siri).

I am going to try the recommendation you linked on the other thread, why not for $40.00.

I use the EarSkinz on my normal wired EarPods. Having though about the EarSkinz a bit more now that I have received my AirPods, I believe an EarSkinz that is shaped like a tire (hollow on both sides) and removes the "cone" extension on the sound output side would probably work just fine, allowing the sensors to work as well as allowing the Pods to fit inside the charging case.

The Cone extension makes the Airpods sound better and louder... :( Try your Earpods Skinz on the Airpods... the sound improvement is noticeable.

Well hi All, thought I'd post this as may help - but i tried earskinz on the AirPods and still was too bulky and unforgiving for my ears. Also as background, I'm a bit of an audio enthusiastic, more use to deep-in-ear balanced armature systems like my 1200 USD AKR02's. Anyhow I also have the bragi dash which I use sony hybrid tips to make fit properly but have to remove them in and out of the case each time. Anyhow I bought the AirPods in malaysia and i love the case and size, so convenient, but i could not get these things to be comfortable in my ears at all. SO i try the earskinz and tbh they stay in better but just as uncomfortable. Anyhow I ended up using some foam covers off some 3 USD earphones that came free with something 10 years ago. I used a tweazer to remove some of the foam covering the sensors and now its perfect. Super comfy due to the softness, minimal DIY needed, sensors and taps all work and best of all, still fits in the case!! On the audio side I'm actually quite impressed with the sound, its different than the dash or my high end iem;s but the driver used inside seems to be pretty good. Talking a while to get used to the lack of noise isolation though. Anyhow hope this helps anyone who is having trouble getting these fitting. IMG_0203.JPG IMG_0204.JPG IMG_0205.JPG
