There is no need to to put the phone into DFU mode to begin with. Just plug into itunes, and go to the main info tab and then just option click or alt click on the restore. Save a step!

If you use the MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework file downloaded from Rapidshare, you need to rename it to MobileDevice.h before you try to select it using the Independence MobDev tool.

Don't ask me why this crucial step isn't mentioned in the instructions... took me a lot of trial and error to figure it out. I finally figured it out by searching the Macintosh HD for "MobileDevice" and noticing that the one that is actually installed by iTunes is MobileDevice.h
Wow, that's amazing, lol. That should definitely be in the steps. But I got it to work after that, thanks danwarne

Yes, it's nothing short of astonishing that it wasn't previously mentioned anywhere...

Stunning, really.

Not getting correct error

I'm getting error (1) when I try to restore it from the 1.1.1 firmware. Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

im confused...

You sir, are a god! How in tarnation did you figure that out?????
I renamed the MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework file to MobileDevice.h,
and it magically turned into a folder. I was then able to navigate to this
folder using MobDev tool, and selected it. Then I selected the INdependence
app, and I got the following message:

success.png

I then downgraded to 1.1.1 and used INdependence to kick it out of DFU mode.
Now I'm back on 1.1.1 with all my favorite programs. Thanks so much!! :)
Needless to say, it is very much possible to use iTunes 7.5, as I just did...

Edit: I ran out of the house after restoring to 1.1.1 and syncing the iPhone.
Only then did I realize that the iPhone was not connecting to the ATT network.
The only way to get it onto the network was to restore to 1.1.2.
So I once again reverted to 1.1.1, and followed all of the steps in the original post
of this thread. It is now on 1.1.2, Jailbroken, and activated on ATT network.

Thanks to macattack87 for putting the guide together, and very special thanks
to danwarne for figuring out the mystery of the MobileDevice.h folder.

You can rest assured that I'm going to need a very good reason to "upgrade" from 1.1.2...

I just upgraded to leopard and i am getting the "detected iTunes 7.5" message. what file am i supposed to rename? the .zip, the decompressed, what? im trying to unlock my iphone before i go over to france next sunday on a exchange trip, so a quick reply would be nice! thanks!

The file you re-name is the one you download from rapidshare (linked above).
it's called MobileDevice7_4_2Framework. Rename it to MobileDevice.h (as noted above).
Then select it using the MobDev tool. Everything you need to know has already been explained in this thread. Good luck!

This isn't working for me. I renamed both the folder and the file to MobileDevice.h, but iNdependence won't select it. The only two selectable files are the AppleDeviceHelper and AppleMobileSync. I also tried different combinations, of renames and iNdependence won't select the files. Is this MobileDevice.h a Windows thing?

Can't select the MobileDevice.h folder

I've renamed the folder to "MobileDevice.h" but when I try to browse to it on my mac via the Independence MobDev tool I can't select the parent folder. Should I be able to select the parent folder or do I need to select one of the sub folders?

Not sure exactly what you mean, but the file downloaded from Rapidshare is
a file, not a folder. It should be on your desktop (or Downloads folder).
When you rename it, it will turn into a folder. Use MobDev tool to select it,
and when the second window pops up, select the INdependence app.
Maybe try quitting and re-launching MobDev tool? Also, are you running
MobDev tool from the DMG without it being copied to your Applications folder?

Help with a UK o2 unlock

OK, what I'm trying to do is unlock a brand new UK iPhone (1.1.2) via my Mac for use with an o2 sim card in the UK.

The instructions from iPhoneunlock appear to be incomplete but here's the process they suggest:

1. Download the 1.1.1 firmware
2. Turn the iPhone off, Quit iTunes. Hold down the home button, connect the phone to the computer (whilst holding down the home button) and continue it. When iTunes starts automatically it says it has detected an iPhone in Restore Mode.
3. In iTunes, hold the shift key(windows) or the key(mac) and press the "Restore" button, browse to the iPhone 1.1.1 Firmware file and press ok

Q - they appear to have left out the key for the mac as the instruction doesn't say which key to press - just "the key". What key needs to be pressed on a mac?

4. Wait till iTunes gives a "1015" error
5. The iPhone will restart to the 1.1.1 restore screen with the iTunes logo on it. Quit iTunes.
6. Load independence and just wait for it to automatically take the iPhone out of restore mode and return it back to the activation screen - this should take around 30 seconds. Now quit Independence.

Q - inDependence requires a framework file to be installed as my iTunes is v7.5. The framework file from iPhone unlock is called "MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework.zip" On downloading the file unzips to a folder called "MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework". If I rename the folder to "MobileDevice.h" I still can't select it with the Mob Dev tool - the folder contains sub folders / files called:
- Mobile Device (shortcut)
- Resources (a sub folder)
- Version (a sub folder).

What needs to be renamed and which sub folder needs selecting?

Any help much appreciated, thanks all!

Got my iPhone Jailbreak'ed to v 1.1.2, w/ iTunes 7.5.. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread, especially Snide and danwarne for providing enough info to get it to work with itunes 7.5 installed.. Definitely not for the squeamish but works like a charm.. Thanks again!

OK - Framework mystery solved!

I think I've worked out what a lot of folk (including me) got confused by with the framework file - on a mac you select the folder and then it looks like it hasn't opened it because you get the 'select file' message again. Actually the second message isn't for the framework but is for iNdependence.

Next Q - in iTunes v7.5. when I do shift + restore it doesn't give me the option to pick the 1.1.1 firmware file - it skips straight to v1.1.2 - how do you force iTunes to give the option of restoring with a different version of the firmware?

Option+Restore, not Shift+Restore.

I just followed the instructions in the OP, and it was flawless. Thanks for the walkthrough!

It's Option + Restore, not Shift. This will bring up a folder where all previous iPhone software updates are stored. For instance, I have 1.0.2, 1.1.1, and 1.1.2. I'm on the iPhone at the moment so I can't tell you where this folder resides, but I think it's called iPhone software...

A few questions...
1. When I hold down both buttons, should the phone be on/off? Plugged in, or not plugged in?
2. What do I do with the downloaded "MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework.zip" in terms of renaming?
3. What do I do with the files in the "MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework.zip" file in terms of renaming, etc?

Thank you!

Rename it to:

MobileDevice.h

-and it will magically turn into a folder, and can then be selected with MobDev tool.

Edit: Forget about holding down the buttons...As mentioned earlier, it's not neccessary.

Still Not WORKING!!!

Besides not knowing what to do with that Jar file..... when I plug into iTunes to update to 1.1.2, I only have the option of restoreing. It doesn't recognize my phone anymore? My only option is to set up a new phone or "restore from the backup of (my phone)" Is this odd? I assume if I restore - I'm back to square one.

EDIT - Never mind. I restored and it worked fine.

OK - Now, what to do with that Jar file. :)

also, after u jailbreak 1.1.1 and upgrade to 1.1.2 installer.app WILL vanish
THIS IS NORMAL

after you run the java file in the concieted software package it will return

Thank goodness someone mentioned this! I freeked when I saw this.... Phone rebooting now.. Fingers crossed..... YES YES YES!

jailbreak.jar does not open at all on my mac os x tiger, i double click and nothing happens, anyone know whats up?
