A jar is a java program, so you need java installed on your machine, normally you can then launch it.

Also check via right-mouse-click and select Open With and see if you find JAR LAUNCHER in your applications.

got JAVA and jar launcher, still nothing happens, when i open it in activity moniter it shows but then just shuts off after 1 second...

"open using the mobile device tool"

Hi, I'm not very technically minded, but am trying to follow all the instructions.

I'm stuck on the bit where you get out of the dfu mode using independence. Have downloaded the mobile device framework and renamed it, as instructed. But what does "open using the mobile device tool" mean? Have tried many things but can't make sense of it... Could someone possibly describe it in idiots terms as I've spent hours trying to downgrade and jailbreak the phone and its driving me up the wall! Also, I've downloaded independence and its in the applications, but when I try and open it nothing is happening.... is this normal?

When you download INdependence, there are two apps in the DMG. One is INdependence app,
and the other is INdependence MobDev tool. Copy both to your hard drive, and then launch
INdependence MobDev tool. You will see this (as I posted on page one of this thread):

alertmv9.png

Click OK...

Here the box has popped up, and I have selected the MobileDevice.h folder on the desktop:

mobdev1mj0.jpg

Click Open...

A second dialog box will pop up; now I have selected the INdependence app
in the Applications folder:

mobdev2wf6.jpg

Click Open - Now you should see this:

Hopefully that should make everything clear. If not, read this entire thread again. Trust me, it's all here. :)

BTW, this was posted from my Macbook running Leopard 10.5.1 tethered to my
iPhone running firmware 1.1.2, using the srelay/SOCKS proxy method...

could you please help?

The file you re-name is the one you download from rapidshare (linked above).
it's called MobileDevice7_4_2Framework. Rename it to MobileDevice.h (as noted above).
Then select it using the MobDev tool. Everything you need to know has already been explained in this thread. Good luck!

can anyone of u please send me that file? because i dont know why but cant acces to rapidshare. so cant download framework file. and im pretty stucked on dfu mode. :( thx in advance. filiphovorka@gmail.com

i followed your steps and when i try to update my phone back to 1.1.2 the installer icon goes away... i repeated your steps over 5 times.... can you give me a hand?

Help!?!

So i tried...or attempted to follow these steps. First off, when changing the file name to MobileDevice.h all I got was a read me file when the file downloaded from rapidshare. So i thought maybe I was changing to wrong file name, so I downloaded the virgin file, and then saw it was a zip file.

I"m on a PC, and it wouldn't let me rename anything inside the zip file...? hmmm

I'm pretty lost. Also I am running itunes 7.5 and I guess that is a problem as well... Does anyone know if you downgrade to 7.4 is there an easy way to transfer music/ movies?

thanks.

please help me asap

you can contact me via email as well at gunitma1e@yahoo.com thanks tons

At this point, I'm 1/2-tempted to offer someone some cash to walk me through this. I activated to AT&T last night after months of using this as a hacked iPod Touch and now can't downgrade to 1.1.1. No clue WHY. Must be because it now has AT&T on it? I never had to use Independence before to do anything.

How is this method better than the other method of punching in phone numbers, etc? I'm still stuck on this: "Please choose the version of iNdependence.app to copy the MobileDevice library into." Real nightmare.

I'm dissapointed they didn't make a version that didn't require renaming, etc.
Nor do I understand why I just can't simply put back 1.1.1 on my phone like I used to and just run jailbreakme.

Great - Now for some reason - I'm on 1.1.1 and lost my AT&T service. It's gone. Poof.

EDIT: Wow - after a couple attempts at restoreing - I have my AT&T back. It's really sad there's no easy way to revert from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 after activating to AT&T. This took me seconds prior to this. I've no clue why activating to AT&T would change this, but sadly, I guess I'm stuck with no apps/themes, etc. till they create a jailbreakme that supports 1.1.2.
I don't understand, but I guess that's how it is. I guess I should be greatful I didn't kill my phone at this point.

EDIT EDIT: Trying again. After Step 9, I get iTunes Error 1602. ???

I've done everything right but perhaps the mobiledevice thing is messing me up? I have 7.4.2 iTunes. When I double click independence mobiledevice tool - it says I have iTunes 7.4.2 then asks me to copy to the Independence. Independence is sitting in an "iPhone" folder. I select Independence and get this error message:

"Error changing the install name for the MobileDevice library." Could this error be preventing me from using my AT&T on 1.1.1 or upgrading to 1.1.2?

When I download the rapidshare "file", it isn't a file, it's a folder. Anyone know what the problem is?

Scratch that, got it!

After many hours of struggling, you've made me happy. Thanks so so much. :D

I got all the way up to running 1.1.1 and I had no service after activation. I repeated the steps and am now trying to update to 1.1.2 to see if it makes a difference. (though when I got to 1.1.1 just a minute ago I had no service again)

Edit: Got done and it indeed has service. I guess 1.1.2 originally installed a new baseband. When you downgrade to 1.1.1, it isn't compatible and you need to wait till you upgrade to 1.1.2 again to be able to connect to AT&T.

This thread has become very confusing. Is there any way someone could post an update with answers to the common problems people are having all on one clean post?

Step 3- Hold down the botton and the home button on your phone, when the screen goes black release the top button but continue to hold onto the bottom button.

Step 4- Then connect your iPhone to iTunes. It should say you need to restore. Option Click on the restore button, a window will come up and select the 1.1.1 software you downloaded earlier.
.

do I do step 3 with the phone connected to my mac and when do I release my finger from the bottom button? sorry if Im dumb here but Im not getting something right

Anyone with an answer?

As was mentioned (twice), that step isn't necessary, so skip and forget it.

As I've said repeatedly, everything you need to know is contained within the pages
of this thread. Those who can't be bothered to read the whole thread will remain lost.

Hey Snide, if you read the whole thread it is honestly confusing at times, and for people that are new to this Its probably even more confusing. I for one had an unlocked iPhone 1.1.1 and installed some apps but the last one something like a control program or something hosed the phone and all the recovery steps on the net didnt work so now I have a 1.1.2 phone and have to say doubt I'll be going through unlocking again, but thats just me.

Its the Holiday season, lets share

sorry, another dumb question...

When I click on folder 1.1.1 there's another folder that says firmware... click on that and there are 2 folders... one is "all flash" and the other is "dfu" I dont see anything in either of those folders with the ending _restore.ipsw ????

anyone?

EDIT: figured this one out

Happy to help those who have already RTFM'd...

I'm sorry if I sound a bit...well, snide, but I see that most of the questions being
asked were answered already, sometimes more than once. Personally I spent
two days searching hundreds of posts all over the internet, and found my
question answered in this thread. What I'm saying is that people should
read this whole thread at least once before trying anything. Then they can
know what issues to expect before proceeding.

I have posted many screenshots to try to simplify everything.
At this point I will ignore redundant, previously answered questions,
but am happy to help someone if it is possible. Keep in mind that this
thread is basically about hacking locked phones with 1.1.2 firmware.
If a phone has been unlocked, that's a whole different ball-game;
I would suggest people search elsewhere or start a new thread.

Please help. I have my phone ready for restore but all of the things in my iphone 1.1.1 folder from the zip I downloaded from the link in this thread are just documents, images, and disc images??? I am really lost

EDIT: got this one too

I am now downloading the 1.1.1 zip from a different link and its taking a lot longer to download, so hopefully this one will work

EDIT: I am at the mobile device part of the process. Trying to open the mobdev tool but it doesnt seem to be responding.
