When you download INdependence, there are two apps in the DMG. One is INdependence app,
and the other is INdependence MobDev tool. Copy both to your hard drive, and then launch
INdependence MobDev tool. You will see this (as I posted on page one of this thread):

alertmv9.png

Click OK...

Here the box has popped up, and I have selected the MobileDevice.h folder on the desktop:

mobdev1mj0.jpg

Click Open...

A second dialog box will pop up; now I have selected the INdependence app
in the Applications folder:

mobdev2wf6.jpg

Click Open - Now you should see this:

Hopefully that should make everything clear. If not, read this entire thread again. Trust me, it's all here. :)

BTW, this was posted from my Macbook running Leopard 10.5.1 tethered to my
iPhone running firmware 1.1.2, using the srelay/SOCKS proxy method...

Snide,

This is really incredible, I applaud you taking the time to do this and am sorry to be a pain but...

I cannot open the mobdev tool now. I did it the first time I downloaded but after I followed your very thorough instructions, I came to the point of opening mobdev from the application folder and the dang thing will just not open. any help is much appreciated.

Ok,

I think Ive finally got this all figured out. I was able to open mobdev by restarting my computer (I think iTunes needs to be shut down completely by restarting)

I will give it one more go.

Ok, I got all the way to step 12, but my phone did not restart. Instead, iTunes detects a phone in recovery mode and Im getting the connect to itunes pic on the phone? What do I do? restore????

Please any help, thanks

also the jailbreak app seems to be stuck rebooting and its been like this for over 10 minutes...

jailbreak app still says jailbreaking... rebooting device... been over 20 minutes now

ok finally got it done. this is a great helpful thread but there are some crucial steps left out...

must close independence after loading 1.1.1

must close itunes before clicking jar file

now to get tethering

I got all the way up to running 1.1.1 and I had no service after activation. I repeated the steps and am now trying to update to 1.1.2 to see if it makes a difference. (though when I got to 1.1.1 just a minute ago I had no service again)

Edit: Got done and it indeed has service. I guess 1.1.2 originally installed a new baseband. When you downgrade to 1.1.1, it isn't compatible and you need to wait till you upgrade to 1.1.2 again to be able to connect to AT&T.

After you updated to 1.1.2 did you have to jail break again?

i've jailbroken mine without independence and itunes 7.5. i've just used the jar file from conceited. here's the step i use.

1. put phone in recovery mode
2. restore to 1.1.1

4. click boot from recovery
5. install appsnap
6. install ockto prep
7. update to 1.1.2
8. close itunes, open jar again and click jailbreak
9. enjoy
